Mako Security is an up and coming developer of unique weapon accessories for various military and state level government organizations. While their products are tested and designed for real firearms, several will be readily received by the airsoft community such as various flashlight mounts, rails and grips. This review is going to take a look at the Mako FGG-S Quick Release Folding Grip.

This unique folding grip allows the operator to switch between a vertical and horizontal position based on your particular needs. While in a horizontal position the grip allows a unique hold while shooting that gives you a little more leverage than just holding the handguards. When vertical, the grip offers a low profile while still giving you enough to firmly grip the rifle and steady your shot.

The grip is designed to mount on Picatinny or weaver rails which includes rifles or even a pistol. I found the grip to securely attach to my AR-15 handguards and felt very stable while shooting with a real steal rifle as well as airsoft. Airsoft rifles don't benefit as much as real steal while using a vertical grip but I found holding the grip vertically extended offered a more comfortable hold than simply using the handguards. The grip is also extremely light and adds no noticeable weight to the front of your weapon. It is constructed of reinforced plastic composite.

When the grip is in the horizontal position you can quickly switch to vertical by pulling the grip down. It then locks into place. To return to a horizontal grip simply press the button on the side and it quickly switches back. The conversion process was very smooth and the grip locked firmly into place while vertical. The grip is also available in black, OD Green and tan to match the theme of your weapon.

While the grip can be attached to a pistol, I can't see the advantage of doing so for airsoft use. The grip would prevent a pistol from being used in a holster and would offer no precision advantage. On a real pistol the benefit would be a more stable hold on the pistol increasing accuracy but that doesn't translate to airsoft at all. I also want to do note that adding a foregrip to a real pistol requires the pistol to be registered with the ATF as "Any other weapon". One should be familiar with federal and local laws before doing so.

Overall, the quality construction and operation of Mako Security's Quick Release Folding Grip make it a contender for anyone evaluating possible vertical grips to use on their airsoft rifle. The retail price may be a little higher than others but the low profile, light weight and smooth operation will satisfy your requirements of a more comfortable grip for your airsoft gun for those long hours spent in the woods tracking down enemies.
