I too stand by the Turnigy nanotech series of lipos. They're great and super cheap.

Also, if you need a charger recommendation, I wrote a review on mine. http://www.illinoisairsoft.com/index.php?topic=14339.0

Does the motor sound like it's trying really hard to complete a cycle? Does the motor get warm or hot at all?

There aren't any sites that sell Daytona kits except for AEX which sells complete guns I believe. You can try ordering directly from Justin.

But one of my buddies deals Daytona kits. I got mine from him. (and it's not opforce or whatever so don't worry.)

PM me if you're really interested.

Problem Solving / Re: Compression Issues

The O-ring on your very old TM piston head might be dried out. Also, check your hop up unit. Most people over look it, but that's a common place to lose a little bit of compression.

If you don't find that special buyer, you can probably get at least $200 assuming its in working and good condition.

Problem Solving / Re: AEG doesn't fire until it's "warmed up"?
« on: January 11, 2012, 06:49:44 PM »
Hmm, seeing as how I only tried it with 3 different motors, one of them was absolute crap anyways so I don't count that. I did however have problems with the other motor (besides the one I'm using now). I'm going to ask one of my buddies if I could borrow his motor to test. I wouldn't be surprised at all if both my motors are crapping out on me.

EDIT: So I swapped out the wiring harness with one I had laying around. Everything seems like work fine now. Perhaps there was a rip in the wires inside the insulation? Anyways, thank you to all who contributed.

It could be from the motor, I wouldn't be surprised. I also posted this on ASM to see if some of the guys over there have an idea. I'm going to try a spare wiring harness I have laying around, I'll report back later with my results.

7.4v 25c 2200mAh lipo. I tried a 9.6v and a 7.4v 1200mah lipo also. Spring is somewhere around a M110.

Problem Solving / AEG doesn't fire until it's "warmed up"?
« on: January 10, 2012, 09:04:41 PM »
Forgive the weird title, but I've come across a problem which I'm going to have some trouble explaining. Here's what's happening, when I plug in the battery and pull the trigger, nothing happens. All I hear is what sounds like very faint sparks. Then after a dozen trigger pulls or so the motor tries to turn but it seems like it's unable to. Usually within the next couple trigger pulls it'll finally shoot.

I want to say it's an electrical problem, but I'm not sure. The AEG will keep shooting per trigger pull as long as I don't leave it alone for too long. It's like it will only shoot when the motor is warm, or when it's been cycled a couple times. Hence the weird title.

Some things you should know:
- It's a V2 gearbox
- G&G Wiring harness (rear and Deans)
- Shimming is fine
- Same thing happens with different motors
- I tried multiple batteries
- Trigger contacts are fine
- Both motor contacts are fully on
- No tears/crimps in wires

Any help would be appreciated, thank you  ;)

I swear someone makes .68g BBs out of pearls. They retailed for like $4.50 each.

Does this JG M99 use a standard M4/M16 selector plate?

As a Daytona owner, I'm telling you right now you'll be lucky if you get 400 rounds off LOL.

Less electric resistance. Also, Tamiya's weren't meant to be connected and disconnected over and over. The wires inside the connectors eventually rip, or the tabs will eventually break.

I agree, that two tone is spectacular. I see the magazine is also the same color, did you paint those parts?

17
You might as well switch to Deans connectors. They're more efficient than Tamiya's anyways.

I would also imagine at 700fps, your bucking would wear out A LOT faster.

Another thing about finding someone to build this for you, have you tried contacting HS5 (Hunterseeker5)? This kind of build would be right up his alley. You can find him on Airsoft Mechanics.

I've heard, such a shame. They finally got rolling with those M4's. I would have loved to get my hands on those. They did make a few complete kits though, one is here stateside but I'm not sure what Justin plans on doing with the rest.

From you airsofters who've been in the game for a while, do you think that because there won't be any more Daytona kits produced (for now at least), the value of them would go up?

Got a University Of Wisconsin-Madison T-shirt from a good buddy of mine, 2 boxes of chocolate, and $50 cash from my parents.

Keep in mind just because you shoot 700fps will not necessarily mean you'll reach out to 300ft. Having 500fps with a good, finely tuned hop up will make you more effective than 700fps with a crappy, untuned hop up.

22
Oh I see, thanks for clarifying  :P

If you're into FAL's, or other guns that would make unique GBBRs, Daytona made an FAL prototype, and there's one here in the states  ;)

23
I guess that can work too. Either way point is, the hose is not an issue if you don't make it one.

Exactly  :D

What exactly do you mean by a drop in "open-source" GBBR? Like a P* Fusion Engine but with recoil? Or do you mean kits for tapping mags for HPA set ups like with those Tanaka or KJW M700s?

But here's the problem with straight lines, the flexibility and mobility of the weapon is limited, especially if you ran through your gear/clothing. With the coil line, I have enough "extra line" to lay down my weapon if needed or lean it against something if needed. This also allows me to switch shooting hands on the fly without having to change lines. Which brings us to another problem. Now I'm not really familiar with building air rigs, so perhaps Dangerwerx can chime in, but I don't think they make a main stabilizer which allows you to run two separate lines from a single main stabilizer. If this is true, you would need two tanks with two main stabilizer. I'm not saying that you are wrong, but it just seems unpractical  ;)

I do have a few buddies that run the P* engines with straight lines that are able to switch shooting hands, but their lines aren't ran through their gear.

Overall, I just prefer coil lines because they give me more leeway with the weapon.

Here's a picture of my air lines.

If you want a classic gun as you describe you can always do Daytonagun.

+1. I run a Daytona M249 as one of my primaries and it's hella fun to shoot. Even though it doesn't have the range or accuracy as some AEG's, I still use it simply because of how much fun it is.

For those of you who think having an external tank and air rig is annoying, think of them as like a hydration carrier and a sling. You won't even notice it's there. They make air rigs where the lines coil and stretch. Only problem is if you play in SUPER dense woodland areas, your line might get caught on a branch or twig.
