Clothing/Gear / Are Rothco Vietnam-era pants true to size?
« on: August 24, 2009, 05:59:34 PM »
So, I am in the process of putting together a classic OD / Vietnam loadout.  Rothco claims to make "mil spec" Vientnam pants, as seen here (http://tinyurl.com/na2rto).  I tried a pair on today at a local army/navy store, and was quite shocked.  They were HUGE, like circa 1990's raver-pant huge.  I know pants from that era were much looser than the modern ones, but were Vietnam pants really THAT baggy/loose, or has Rothco just gone off their rocker?  I am trying to go as authentic(looking) as I can, so any feedback would be helpful.  Any chance anyone else has those pants, and if so, any reviews?

Clothing/Gear / Re: Need some gear help!
« on: May 05, 2009, 10:41:49 PM »
My birthday is next month and I have decided that I need to get some serious gear.  The following list is what I'm looking at getting, so if anyone could give me advice I would appreciate it very much!  *My budget is 450$ MAX*

Thanks  ;D

Some basic comments:

Top/Bottom: You should be able to get those cheaper at a local surplus store.

Helmet: If you are going for a replica loadout, that is a decent choice.  If you are going for basic protection, get a pro-tec skateboard helmet and spray paint it OD.  Those run for about $25, fit better, are lighter, and offer better protection.

Boots: Can often score good used boots at local salvation army / amvets if you are on a tight budget.

Facemask: This one is dicey. If you want best protection, get a full face mask. However, many people find full face masks hard to aim with.  A good alternative is a pair of goggles and a balaclava.

Am I forgetting anything?

Clothing/Gear / Re: Tru-Spec Multicam v.s. Propper Multicam
« on: April 28, 2009, 09:16:57 PM »
i own the propper multicam as does my whole team...they are all holding up really well...ive fell on pavement and walked through thorns with no rips or tears...probbly the most comfortable pants i have...street clothes or airsoft...my friend have aquirred a small rip in the bottom of the leg but its from his boots...not a big deal.

OK, so do you have the, (1) Propper MC "battle rip/ACU or, (2) the "regular" MC BDUs?

Clothing/Gear / Re: A Retrospective Look at Your loadout(s)
« on: April 28, 2009, 04:11:44 PM »
Well, I received a belated birthday gift of $100 in the mail today.  ;D  So, my budget is not quite as limited anymore.  However, I still have the exact same quandry as to which theme/direction to pursue.  Now I just have more money to not spend until I figure it out.  :)

BTW, thanks for the input everyone.

EDIT: Or maybe now buy a TM instead that Cyma I had my eye on, and just go ghetto with other gear for awhile. ;)

Clothing/Gear / A Retrospective Look at Your loadout(s)
« on: April 27, 2009, 11:44:15 PM »
Hey All,

I am an airsoft noob, but not a web form noob (I am a mod on a few other forums), so I know more than anyone to use search / google / wiki before posting questions.

That said, I have a new twist on the apparently often asked “what kind of camo” question;  Have you switched camo from what you first started out with as a noob?  What did you start out with, and what do you have now?  How, and why, has your loadout changed over time?

My situation:  I will be playing in various settings around New England.  I’d rather put-off game time, and take a bit longer to do my loadout “right” the first  time, than have to replace **** down the line.  By replace, I do NOT mean “supplement.”  I mean flat-out replace.  I have already resigned myself to the fact that I will be “supplementing” my loadout for as long as I am involved with this money-pit, I mean, sport.  I have a limited budget at the moment (thanks, economy).  Again, patients will win out, and I am not desperate to get on the field as soon as I possibly can.

I am considering an OD, woodland, or multicam loadout.  I can get used woodland VERY cheap at local surplus stores.  I have worn OD BDU gear for years, so I already have some basic stuff.  Multicam is the more expensive option (Propper Combat, not Crye).  At heart, I love the classic look of a pure OD loadout.  However, I also want something functional and versatile.  Woodland seems like it would be more functional than OD.  And MC, well, it seems like overall it would be more versatile than ether OD or woodland.  What ever route I take, I am going to be stuck with for awhile.  Hence, I am curious as to what experience has done to evolve people's first (or subsequent) loadouts over time.

Again, I am not asking what is the "best camo."  I am more curious about the thought process people have had, if and when, their loadout has changed over time.

Thanks in advance your time.

Airsoft Players / Transmittin' Live from Boston
« on: April 24, 2009, 10:14:33 PM »
Hey All:

I am new here, and new to airsoft.  I've been lurking on numerous forums over the last 2 months, but I must say this place seems to be best of them all.  I am a moderator on both a snowboard and skateboard forum, so I know how to avoid (most) noob pitfalls (i.e. use the search option before posting).

Anyway, my quick intro:  Live in Boston.  Been skateboarding for 15 years.  Huge music junkie (mostly punk and drum & bass).  Have long missed playing war in the woods when I was little kid, so it was time to start again.  :)  I wont bore you with all my gear specs.  In event, hello from Beantown.
