Clothing/Gear / Re: Shotgun carrying methods
« on: January 18, 2010, 08:31:45 PM »
Let me offer a variation to your solution, Ghostfire.  I too struggled to carry a shotgun on my back (using a 2pt NON-transitional sing) and didn't want to pay for a legit scabbard or mess with a pouch/holster setup for the muzzle of my TM M3.  What I ended up doing was getting creative with some plastic buckles + nylon straps that I had salvaged off of some old gear and adding a buckle-based weapons catch loop onto my belt that pulled the gun to one side of my body and held it there until I released the buckle.  The only catch (haha, pun intended!) was that you had to manually manage the slack when re-holstering.  Comming out was lightning fast, maybe 2 seconds - just un snap and shoulder.  But getting set back up takes a bit longer.

but if you can afford a 2pt transitional sling, then your problems can also be solved!

Clothing/Gear / Re: Gloves - nomex flight gloves or something more solid?
« on: November 14, 2009, 10:21:44 PM »
I have a pair of Hatch Nomex flight gloves and they are more for flame resistance and convenience (easy on/off) than for maximum dexterity or durability.  Yes, they are going to get torn up pretty badly against regular velcro.  Any mechanic's gloves that you can pick up at your local hardware store should be fine IMO.

Clothing/Gear / Re: Mounts for G&P G2 Flashlight
« on: November 01, 2009, 04:00:09 PM »
Although I don't have experience with that specific light, most G&P SureFire replicas fit nicely into any 1" scope ring or offset light mount.  The best way to go about this is to simply email RedWolf (they have good CS) and ask them if product A is compatible with product B.  You can get some scope rings for around $10 apiece and wrap electrical tape around the body of the light to "build up" the diameter of the body to fit snugly.  This is Airsoft so you won't have to worry about recoil.

Another great cost-effective light mount that you may like is the Viking Tactics Offset light mount.  It's a polymer offset mount that will run you about $25 and is pretty popular.

Clothing/Gear / Re: Cheap Boots
« on: October 23, 2009, 12:21:40 AM »
here's how to get a good boot setup on the cheap:

1) buy a pair of $25 "Response Gear" or similar patrol boots from your local Big 5 Sporting Goods or Dick's

2) buy a Dr. Schol's athletic foot insert

3) place athletic insert on top of current "duty boot" insert

the result is a really comfortable boot at a really affordable price point!

spray it down with some Febreeze to kill the bacteria, then let it dry out in the sun

if I were required to wear a full face mask, I'd probably go with one of these:

Clothing/Gear / Re: Help with red dot sight
« on: May 04, 2009, 02:02:28 AM »
lots of AEGs require you to leave the front sight assembly in tact to hold the gun together - consider getting a riser which can add some height onto your upper receiver for clearing the front post, then co-witnessing your red dot with the front sight if it still gets in the way

Clothing/Gear / Re: what type of hoster should i get?
« on: May 01, 2009, 07:12:18 PM »
a drop leg holster is easier to use while wearing a vest or body armor/plate carrier - unless your vest is very slim and non-restrictive/bulky then a hip holster is more comfortable and less of a hassle to move with compared to a drop leg holster

unless you can get a fantastic clearance/liquidation deal on an incan pistol light, I would highly advise going LED such as the newer gen. Streamlight TLR-1 or 2 with the newer "C4" led

I'm using a flashlight that came off a bike handle. It straps on very nicely and is working great!

Win factor = 3/10

Awesomeness factor = 10/10   :D

Surefire G2+Viking Tactics Flashlight Mount+ Any Generic Pressure Switch for SF 6P/G2/G3 models= Win

a stock SF G2 is hardly "win"  :)

12
Safariland might have something light compatible, or try lego-ing together an Uncle Mike's modular holster system

13
Motosolution's FogTech, or comparable HIGH QUALITY antifog will help, but the permanent solution would be installing a fan

LOL! get em while their hot!

SureFire themselves are no longer producing new incandescent models - at least not for the past few years...  dealers are trying to liquidate the lower end SF lights because they know that when consumers in general begin to wise up to the benefits of LED technology over traditional incandescent technology, they (the general non-tactical user) will have no need for a sub 200 lumen incan.  The color rendition gap has been bridged, and SF's new "vampire" lineup for 2009 gives users both standard and IR illumination in the same package...

the UTG lights are not blindly bright, but bright enough to see where you are walking around

Clothing/Gear / Re: Mk23 Light Options?
« on: March 11, 2009, 03:39:47 PM »
Of course, there's the crazy option of gutting a TM LAM, tossing in a CREE R2 and new power source or something...

if ya gonna go crazy...  toss in one of those new CREE MC-E quad die LEDs in there  8)  Malkoff has some SF P60 dropins that are putting out 500+ lumens for around 45 mins with 2 123as, hehe...  will it melt?  probably after a couple minutes yes...  lol, but that's a true pocket rocket!  The LED i mean..

Deal Extreme CREE Q5 or R2 taclight (if you choose a "AA" model you will save on batteries as well) + cheap pressure pad + scope ring = bright as hell AirSoft light setup for under $40 shipped

if you choose to use your thumb to activate the light from the side of a vert grip, then I would highly recommend trying to order a spare switch, because those are usually the first to fail on cheap lights - but did I mention that they ARE very bright??  8)  for AirSoft use only..

Clothing/Gear / Re: Anyone have experience with Fenix Flashlights
« on: March 10, 2009, 12:38:53 PM »
Fenix lights are great, they are of fairly high quality considering that they are made in China, and Fenix is definitely a cut above its cheaper competitors such as UltraFire, SuperFire, SpyderFire, etc...  DEX lights

depending on how you use your lights, the P series have clickie switches, which may make it hard for momentary use

I would whole heartedly recommend Fenix lights for Airsoft use!  they are affordable, multi-level, bright as hell, and the quality control/switch reliability is probably more than adequate for game usage   :)

Clothing/Gear / Re: Non-millitary flashlight mounting
« on: March 09, 2009, 02:12:29 AM »
hahaha, if that's "absurdly bright" then you ain't seen bright yet 8)

One way of doing things is to mount an oversized scope ring on there and build up the sides with something soft like foam pipe insulation from your local hardware store

Another option would be simply to use those cheap zip-ties or a thin metal strap for pipes and simply lock that sucker down onto the gun.  Wrap the light in some foam to give it some grip if need be.

Good luck with using that light in momentary mode...

stick it in the wash on high heat, extra long tumble with some fabric softener, and extra strong detergent...  repeat process  8)  that thing will look faded and be hecka soft by the time ur finished!

Clothing/Gear / Re: Does anyone know where to get a shell holster?
« on: March 02, 2009, 11:17:48 PM »
yeah, they are called "side saddles" and are actually quite common...  you can get 'em from TacStar, Mesa Tactical, or many other retailers who even make some that attach to the side of the gun via velcro tape (because most airsoft shotguns don't have receiver pins to hold most side saddles onto the gun with)

edit: this is an example of a "3 Gun Gear" velcro tape attached side saddle that you really can DIY with just a little creativity

strapping a fake Airsoft combat knife upside down to the support side shoulder area of your harness/loadout/rig just adds that instant "SAS"/"SEAL" look IMHO  8)  tacticool lol

Clothing/Gear / Re: Where can I get 10x12 replica sapi plates?
« on: February 20, 2009, 06:46:32 PM »
too stiff?  lol, have you ever handled a real rifle plate before?  either ceramic or steel...  they're stiff and heavy and you have to baby them

consider the fact that you can probably get a small stack of old national geographic magazines for FREE at your local library and just chuck them when they get wet beyond use.  honestly, if you're planning on getting soaking wet then the replica plate should be the LEAST of your worries...
