Hi all,

Recently I upgraded my A&K m249 with
- Helical Ultra Torque Up - Ultimate gear set
- Classic Army metal teeth piston
- m155 spring I got from a friend
- ultra torque element motor
It runs flawlessly on a custom 11.1 Li-Ion laptop cell battery, comparable to a 11.1V LiPo. But recently, I got into some situations where the ROF of the gun was not sufficient (didn't test it though after the upgrades). It sounds like a stock Cyma AEG running on a 8.4/9.6 battery ( I know it is not a very accurate descriptions, but it is the best I can provide for now).

I got an idea - the main battery of the gun is in the box mag, and there is a lot of space in the front grip. I want to install two 2S/7.4 LiPo in series to get 4S/14.8 for short bursts while being stormed or attacking, and still be able to use the box battery for prolonged gunfights and while defending/covering. The wiring will not be a problem for me (I might implement a two stage trigger, use the fake gas regulator knob at the front, or do something different).

What do You guys think about that idea? Good or bad?

Hi all,

this may seem like a noob question (and I've beet airsofting for many years now :) ) but what exactly is the difference between RIS, RAS, Piccatiny and Weaver rails? Are these all the same?

Gun Modifications/Parts/Accessories / Is my chrono reading correctly?
« on: October 28, 2012, 06:38:37 AM »
Hi all,

I purchased a used chrono online, and don't know if it reads correctly. From my JG m249 with a m155, madbull 509mm 6.03 barrel, stock piston head, stock cylinder head, no bore-up, stock nozzle and hopup chamber I get around 460-470fps, is that within expected values range? I don't have access to any other chronos to compare.

General Airsoft Discussion / are 8mm bb's any good?
« on: August 04, 2012, 05:41:02 AM »
Hi,

I've been thinking of using 8mm bb's as ammo for my next diy sniper anti-matter rifle project. My question is do even come close to the accuracy, range and consistency of heavy 6mm bb's? Once I calulated that their mean density (weight/volume) is less that this of 0.2g so it means they are more affected by the wind right?

Hi guys,
i was finally able to get my custom fire control unit working.... in a way, that is, still needs to be complete. Currently, it is able to ensure a full cycle of the gun, working on burst capability ;) During the work, I noticed something. The A&K minimi gearbox has special cuts to install a latch-release lever. It's here http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs180.snc1/6768_100645599950830_100000161715499_16516_2168558_n.jpg (found the photo on the net). Notice, that there is a groove running from the top to the anti-reversal latch with a small opening. I was able to bend and install a piece of metal that acts as a release. The gearbox itself looks like the producer left a few openings for some parts, but I'm unable to find any info on them.

Here is my question:
Are there any stock fire control/reversal latch release parts for the minimi-type gearbox? I need some reference to make some myself ;)

Gas Discussion / Where do I get a magazine for a Walther PPK GNBB pistol?
« on: February 02, 2012, 07:09:51 AM »
Hi all,

I recently stumbled upon pieces of my old walther PPK GNBB pistol. I was able to put it back together but the magazine is missing. I remembered that one of my pals lost it in the woods a few years back, and now the gun is useless :( It was my first gas pistol and I'm kind of sentimental. It is identical to the black one here:

http://www.combatsportsupply.com/ProductImages/JP106BS.jpg

Where do I get a mag for one of these? I remember stumbling upon them once, but I forgot. Please help.

Gun Modifications/Parts/Accessories / How long does a LiPo live?
« on: January 31, 2012, 04:24:47 PM »
Hi everyone,
my friend is looking into buying a set of 5 used LiPos with 2 chargers. The selles claims that they were properly treated and used for a year without deep discharge. The price is also VERY nice (about 1/3 price of new ones).

So here is my question, do LiPo batteries show signs of wear after a year of proper usage? I know it depends on many factors like temperature, charging conditions, discharging parameters, frequency of use etc. but if anyone with better LiPo experience would help me, I'd be very happy :)

Hi all,
recently, I installed a stronger spring (150? 160? don't know, got it from a friend who forgot. It's very stiff.) in my M249 P&J/A&K minimi. I used stock parts knowing that sooner or later the stock polymer piston will strip.

And so it happened yesterday, it stripped clean. I want to replace it with a systema aluminum piston like this one http://allegro.pl/systema-aluminiowy-tlok-od-hadshot-com-pl-i2083745452.html

I want to keep upgrading my GB by putting in a better set of gears and a better motor eventually.  Is the systema aluminum piston a good choice? Couldn't find much info on the forum.

Hi all,

after some googling and simple sketches of a hand-cranked airsoft gatling machinegun just for kicks I came up with a way to make a simple and cheap minigun :) with spinning barrels and such. It can also be adapted for multi barrel gun. I am not going to build it, it is just a concept idea for somebody to try. Actually it was a bit inspired with the Saiga minigun from Sons of Guns.

I would see it in mad-max themed events as a vehicle mounted monster.

1. Get 3 or more cheap shotguns, the overall quality and reliability of the gun will depend on these, there are a lot of options here, from cheapest plastic to the most powerful metal ones. Somebody might even use triple shot shotguns for even more powah :D
2. Remove grips, rails, and all stuff except the main firing mechanism.
3. Mount them on a rotating shaft, triggers and magazines facing outwards.
4. This is the tricky part, so I will try to explain it well. Get a pipe big enough to fit over all of the front grips. Screw a bolt in all the front grips facing outwards, add a ball bearing on the bolt. Then, cut a sinusoidal shape in the pipe wall that will allow a backward-forward motion on the bearings from the front (it might sound puzzling, but when you watch minigun reload animation it may become more clear). After the full rotation, the front grip should travel to the back and then to the front and the mechanism should be reloaded.
5. Add a way to pull the trigger after a full rotation (a metal piece interacting with the triggers, on the bottom to ensure proper hop-up operation)
6. Add gears and a motor, or a hand crank for a total mad max look. Reload and place the magazines. Fire :)

It might be strange and awkward to build, but it should work :) Only reloading all the mags would suck big time:)

Hello all,

I am looking for a company that manufactures custom airsoft guns and parts in Europe. I have an idea for a conversion kit which I am unable to manufacture myself due to the lack of time and proper machine shop. I want to interest them as it is an idea that might sell well. Anybody can recommend?

Misc. Weapons / Airsoft bazooka - old project
« on: November 07, 2011, 07:56:19 AM »
Hi all,

Just wanted to share an old project of an airsoft bazooka. The sniper sight is just for kicks and to show that there is a compatible rail on top. The second video has labels in polish, but the distances should be readable anyway :) It is very sturdy and accepts all 1" pipe parts for easy barrel replacement to use different ammo. In the videos it is "chambered" for foam insulation rocket-arrows with foam balls as warheads, it is very accurate with those.

As I sometimes post it on other forums and loose track, there is a possibility that I already posted this here (searched, didn't find though).

Hi all,

I just got a broken Well Scorpion vz.61 and repaired it (it is totally new, a shop tested it out of the box before selling and it was broken straight from the factory, so totally unused ).

I totally love that thing and will use it as a sidearm or at CQB games. Now I need ideas how to make it more "tacticool" while maintaining small size. Any ideas what can I slap on it? Or, any similar ultra-cool compact sci-fi weapons that I can use for inspiration? I've been thinking about permanently removing the stock and adding something below the barrel to make it look more like this

Why make it tacticool? Well, I have an image to maintain between my friends :)

I will also probably be making a holster or a latch for it, as I want to be able to holster it with the drum mag.

The crazier the idea the better, any suggestion will be appreciated.

General Airsoft Discussion / Mixing nerf and airsoft - good or bad idea?
« on: October 12, 2011, 11:21:13 AM »
Some time ago I was planning on getting a Wii console, and I got a Nerf N-strike gun on a sale to use it with the controller in the future. Although the console still remains in the realm of my dreams, I was also able to get me a 10-shot revolver-magazine nerf gun on another sale. They turned out to be fun to shoot at home and as CQB target practice, because they don't damage stuff at all.

Anyway, I had an idea about making a mock mock mock taser some time ago, and found the n-strike to be quite up to the task. It has a very poor range of about fifteen feet and has to be reloaded manually after each shot, just like the real thing. I want to skip the wires. A paint job is also a must!

Now here is my question - is it a good idea to use a nerf gun as a special purpose weapon in scenarios? It could be used to take people hostage after a hit, imagine a scenario when a team has to infiltrate a building and "tase" one of the defenders, question him to get info etc. It would also be nice to "bang-kill" somebody using a nerf gun :D Also, as crowd control in peacekeeping scenarios or something.... opinions?

Custom Gun Works / Custom full auto airsoft shotgun project nearly completed
« on: September 14, 2011, 08:19:32 AM »
Probably one of the most awaited designs ever. Airsoft full auto shotgun that works and is not in the area of WHAT-IF.

My gun is near completion. It uses one barrel, compressed gas + electric combo and feeds from a single magazine. ROF and amount of gas released can be fully regulated. Actually, with a few modifications, I can change the amount of bb's per shot :) currently 3 at once.

Actually this is the second prototype, I will show it when it stops being ugly and runs more smoothly. As for now, just a teaser to show it firing. Details in the description.

I was planning to post it for a long time, but finally there it is. My custom bullpup Minimi. I was not sure if the amount of custom work was enough to put it here, so feel free to move it.

It was inspired by the OICW project that I was very interested in. Also, my friend dared me to do it :)

I based in on a A&K M249 para. It is very sturdy, which is important due to the weight of the build.

Battery: It uses a custom 11000mAH (that big, yes) li-ion battery made from laptop cells. It is located in the boxmag.
Barrel: Madbull 6.03 509mm barrel in a handmade barrel extension.
Internals: M140 spring running on stock gears and motor. I am planning to upgrade that for ROF and durability. The bearings are stock 8mm ball bearings.
Hopup: It had issues from the start, I modified it by making it full metal and fixing leaks. Did wonders.
Other: It has a custom build latch+mosfet circuit with optical piston position sensing to ensure that each cycle is completed even after the trigger is released. It also has active breaking and motor temperature sensing. If anybody is interested I can post a tutorial on that.

Weight: 20 lbs. Actually, the pure weight of the gun forced me to work out and do lots of running. And loose weight. Wonder if it could be used to promote airsoft as a healthy hobby.

The front P90-style wooden grip is attached to an aluminum rail together with an ugly bipod (i bought it as scrap, it is painted very badly, will fix it). They attach to the front of the gun with 5mm bolts and nuts. I need to repaint it due to the beating it takes during games. The cable hanging loose near the mag is the battery and magazine wind-up connection. I used a DIN connector similar to this one http://i00.i.aliimg.com/photo/v0/221572468/Circular_DIN_connector_8PIN.jpg

The trigger uses a switch from some industrial equipment. There is also another thumb - activated switch hidden in the grip, it fires the launcher. The silver connector is used to connect the launcher to the rest of the circuitry.

To be able to aim with the launcher attached I had to make a rail-adaptor-thing. It is based on a tutorial I found somewhere on the net. The ammo is made from empty 5.56 shells with wooden bullets painted gold.

The launcher is made mostly from plastic pipes and fitted on an aluminum rail. Together with the side rails it is bolted to the upper heat shield. To open it I slide the outer barrel a bit forward and lift it up. The cuts are made for easy extraction.

The firing mechanism consists of a solenoid actuator. I ripped it from a machine in a junkyard some time ago. The outer coil pulls the inner metal shaft inside thus firing the grenade, and then a weak return spring resets the pin. Easy and clean.

Lately I installed a better belt loop to carry the beast. I use it often, didn't paint it yet. You can also faintly see the mag winding switch on the grip. I removed the stock due to weight and length issues. It uses a custom shoulder rest made from a steel plate and wrapped in soft foam and soft tennis tape. It is comfy!

All the attachments are controlled from the switches on the trigger guard. From the left they are launcher safety, light, and laser. I also installed a bottle cap for easy filling of the boxmag. The ugly bolt is there to keep the gun together, the original part is somewhere in the forests of eastern Europe.... Must paint it!

Intimidation to the max!

It is quite comfy to use.

I am planning to make it look better, which includes lots of painting, covering cables and such. Up to this date it has witnessed many skirmishes and turned heads of many unsuspecting players. I remember that once during a CQB game (it was running a weaker m110 spring at that time) a member of the opposing team shouted something like "get this f*****g thing away from me" after being pinned down behind a piece of concrete by a wall of fire for a long time.

Misc. Weapons / My airsoft tracked robot - opinions and suggestions
« on: August 30, 2011, 07:47:14 PM »
At last something to show off :) Didn't really know where to put it.

I finally managed to put together a video of my robot during presentation on my university. I couldn't do any shooting though.
It was using three grenades and a gearbox from mp7. There is a camera under the barrel between the lights. It took me about six months to build due to lack of free time. There it is:

Currently the turret is being rebuilt for better accuracy and lower profile, I also want to make it wireless. The robot was quite sluggish, some new motors and bearings will be installed, as well as some lightweight plating to cover the mess inside. Also I will try to implement some simple IR motion detectors for sentry-like operation.

My wife told me to install smoke screen for quick retreats :D.

Any other crazy suggestions and ideas for weapons and gear from fellow airsofters? Someday I want to use it in a scenario or two as a special purpose weapons platform and overall death machine :>

So some time ago i bought a scrap airsoft BAR mechanism in a flea market. The guy selling it said that some kid brought it but was fuzzy on the details. I also got the bipod from this set, i already installed it on my m249 :) will show it soon. The guy also had a scope for sale, but the cross was missing. Other parts were already gone. The mechanism has one of the inside parts bent, when i straightened it i was able to cock and shoot a couple of times, but then it bent again. Will make a steel replacement in the future.

Without further delay! There are the pictures:

http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/841/dscn0524w.jpg

What is this thing? I feel like i've seen it before, but where? Anybody can help me out? I want to make a BAR rifle out of it using a custom ultralight foldable stock to get something like this . Some info of the origin of the part would be helpful.

Complaint Department / Jackhammer post deletion.
« on: May 04, 2011, 11:09:14 AM »
I placed a post in the basic training about the desired price of an airsoft jackhammer a few hours ago and i'm not totally sure why was my post deleted. Was it because it sounded as an advertisment, didn't carry any vital info, or something else? Please tell me so that i don't make such mistakes in the future.

I am actually considering building these, and i am already able to do so, with the first prototype being tested now, and performing quite well.

Let's speculate here: imagine an auto shotgun with following specs:
1. Magazine fed, like m16, ak, g36 or whatever, so no shells.
2. Semi and full auto, with rof around 2-5 shots per second
3. No hopup.
4. Wide spread for room sweeping.
5. Low precision barrel to accept those cheapest multicolor bb and for wider spread.
6. Operating on external pressure source like a paintball tank or co2 cartridge.
7. No recoil.
8. Variable fps by pressure regulator.

How many bb would it have to shoot per one shot to be considered effective and not a money eater? Please, no comemnts like "i only need one" or similar.

Hi, i am new to the forum, decided to register after digging through the forum for a month or so. I have some experience in airsoft, at least 10-15 games in 4 years (yes, a few games peer year, time issues ;/ ).

I love building stuff, and already have a few projects of my own, will probably show them in time. Aside from electronics and mechanics, i also like to build airsoft guns and launchers of different kinds, and this is where my question lies: what is the maximum weight of ammo to safely use with a launcher?

Let me specify: Nerf is nearly nonexistent where i live, and tennis balls require giant barrels and lots of power to send flying. I did some promising experiments with rockets made from pipe insulation foam and training golf balls, but they need to be long or finned to maintain stable path. And so on.... So i want to make a new kind of rocket, with insulation foam and a cone head molded from flexible caulk. It seems to be strong to withstand launching and impact. Don't know if it would it be dangerous to hit someone by accident.

So, does anyone have one of these mad bull XM 995 rockets for use with grenade launchers? Or S-thunder foam ball shells? Or rubber grenade heads? How much do they weigh? The data i found online was inconsistent.

As for the launcher, i will be using a solenoid valve setup with air power, regulated from 1 to 10 bar (150 psi or so), steel tank, double layered PCV barrel, 1in inside diameter, about 3 feet barrel length. After shooting on 4 bar(60 psi or so) using cotton-bb-cotton projectile the speed was around 250-300fps, hard to judge by naked eye, just comparable to a cheap GBB pistol.

If it has already been answered elsewhere, feel free to remove the post.
