General Airsoft Discussion / Airsoft play style, whats your take?
« on: March 31, 2012, 12:27:36 AM »
After a recent disscussion with a friend of mine about an old outdoor field he mentioned it was his style. That comment kinda "erked" me in and set me into a crazy list of questions.

Heres some background info on said friend: Hes played for 3-4 years mostly outdoors, recently picked up an indoor CQB habit and plays their regularly, I played with him at this field back in december and yes hes become very good and very efficient at the cqb indoor play style. Myself Ive been playing for about 8 years almost strictly all outdoor fields ranging from large 100+ acre fields of all woods and mountains, and then field in the woods of a smaller size with a couple buildings here and there. Ive played the same indoor field quite a bit and also a couple other CQB-ish enviroments so Im not completely new to it either.

My theory for play style is that every "operator" should be able to adapt to any enviroment ranging from indoor to outdoor, rain or shine. They should be able to adapt to any situation no matter what even if it means taking a short barreled cqb weapon to a longer range outdoor field or visa versa... They should be able to make whatever their gear is work in whatever situation. Nothings perfect, and rarely is the situation in which you find yourself in.

I personally have built my gun and gear primarilly for outdoor use, Im able to quickly go from cqb to long range field play very quickly.

My question for all the members here is whats your take on play styles? Should you have your load strictly for one thing even though you play in more than one area? And on a parting note I leave everyone with this "Jack of all trades, master of none."

Problem Solving / WE hicapa 4.3 desert not cycling properly
« on: March 08, 2011, 06:57:28 PM »
So i recently aquired a brand new WE hicapa 4.3. I then installed http://www.airsoftextreme.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=443_468_471&products_id=2706. The first games played with it it worked fine. But towards the end of the day it started to not cycle properly requiring me to hit the back of the slide to return it to battery.

Today i started to tinker around with it trying to figure out what the problem was. I then pushed on the front of the barrel and it started to cycle properly. Now ive been trying to figure a way to keep the barrel pushed back so it will return to battery. I also put my stock TM barrel assembly into the WE slide and it worked. but i dont wanna ruin the plastic TM barrel.

Im pretty well read in the hicapa design, but this has me royaly stumped.
Has anyone ever experienced this same problem and what have they done to fix it?

Problem Solving / No semi on a CA m4...I need help
« on: August 11, 2010, 06:04:36 PM »
Ok well as the title states, I have no Semi auto at all on my CA M4. Im running a 9.6v mini, matrix magnum high torque motor, Guarder M100 spring, brand new CA wiring harness (less than 2k rounds through it), Guarder cylinder tune kit, YTK gears (sub 50k rounds)

Ive made sure I have the spring that goes from the selector plate to the cut off lever, made sure my contacts were clean, Ive tried a stock CA motor, 8.4v mini...The problem started where my semi started doing 2-3 round bursts and then it just went to auto only. I do have a working safety.

Im completely confused on what could be the problem. If I can get some help from some of the more smarter gun savvy people that would be great.

Tactics / Question on sniper tactics pertaining to Rules of engagment
« on: June 25, 2010, 03:38:40 AM »
Let me start off tellign you a little about my sniping experience. I have 4+ years as my teams sniper, I have run many different BASR sniping platforms (TM G-spep, Bar-10, UTG M324, Mp001...) over the course of my years. I have read the army sniper handbook TC23-14 about 4 times front and back, along with many other sniper related books.

Heres the senario. A sniper and spotter team is given the task of reconing enemy movements through an open area giving the number of Tangos, Direction, and Location. Their current rules of engagment (ROE) are to fire if comprimised or fire if fired upon. The enemy being 3 tangos armed with AEGs are tasked with planting an objective(OBJ) and then moving to a secondary OBJ. The sniper team sets up ambush on the edge of a small brushline. The enemy is walking their direction, so the snipers relay the info back to command, and immediately after a Tango spots a glimps of the spotter and audibly says "I see movement". The Tango then continues to lead his team out into the open where his OBJ is. The spotter has a clear shot on all tangos but is told to hold fire. A Tango then turns around and opens fire killing the Sniper/Spotter team in a matter of seconds.

Now the Question.
I ran into this today, My sniper being less experienced than me by a few years. Me and him both agree that we could have hidden slightly deeper into the brushline. We dissagree on how everything else should have played out. I had the chance to take out all the Tangos before they turned around to get a shot off. If i wasnt told to hold fire i would have wiped out the whole enemy force and stopped them from completing their mission. In my years of sniping i have always killed the enemy before they knew what hit them, even with a BASR. I technically could have opened fire following the ROE and stopped the enemy from their mission and completing mine. Am I correct on this?

I have argued my point as kill or be killed and thats what ive always done. I would much rather take out the enemy and not allowing them to complete their OBJ, Taking out my team members, or getting around behind us and killing us.

I know the ROE is there for a reason, but at airsoft ranges "fire if fired upon" doesnt really work?

Clothing/Gear / Homemade pistol holster for Hicapa 4.3 or 1911
« on: February 19, 2010, 04:27:28 PM »
I was sitting around the other day with a multitude of ideas running through my head. One was to make a pistol holster thats small, light, and fits a couple of the different guns i have which are the TM Hicapa 4.3 and a TM 1911. I broke out my needle and thread and went to work. Everything is very low quality due to my minimal sewing knowledge and my lack of a sewing machine.

I started with some 1.5" nylon webbing and sewed it into a a loop that fits around the trigger guard of the hicapa. I then added some elastic cord that stretches over the rear of the gun near the hammer. After that i contemplated making it fit just a belt, or have it be Molle adaptable. I seltted on making it a combo of both. I had these little loops that have a metal button on then that are for alice gear(I think), these were perfect since theyre nylon, fairly secure, and fit most belts.

Heres the 98% finished product.

Its very strong for being hand sewn. I made it for next to nothing, had materlials from old gear that i used.
Any suggestion or comments are welcome.
