General Airsoft Discussion / GPS squad tracking
« on: March 31, 2010, 04:12:23 PM »
Anyone here have an android phone running 2.0 or 2.1?

I've noticed you can use Google Maps on the phone to track the location of anyone you add in real time (seems to be very short update intervals). I think it has quite a bit of potential in airsoft. Along with satellite imagery, it makes foreign terrain easier to navigate.

I saw the other GPS thread was locked, so here it is.

I use it to coordinate two separate squads. Very nice in dense woods, as we know each others locations, and we can easily use this information to maneuver. I plan on getting some good solid combat testing in tomorrow. I don't post much, but I think this is worth sharing.

Problem Solving / Bar-10 stock inquiry
« on: December 02, 2009, 02:31:55 AM »
Broke the stock of my Bar-10. Was wondering if there are any stocks that would be compatible with the Bar-10.

Just so you know, when people say throwing an airsoft rifle is a bad idea...listen. Got into the heat of the moment and tossed it to a buddy who didn't catch it. I was willing to replace anything that may have broke (figured optics would bite the dust if he missed the catch, not the stock). Lol

Tactics / Team weapon orientation
« on: June 19, 2008, 10:34:44 PM »
Alright, so, I don't know how many people out there pay attention to the weapon orientation of their entire group, I bet it's not a large number. I've failed to see this mentioned elsewhere, if I missed it, sorry.

Most people are right handed, so odds are, most people will have their rifles shouldered on their right shoulder, which leads to a natural weapon orientation to the left. You can react and dispatch a threat on your left, much quicker than your right if your weapon is in the right shoulder...so what happens when a team is moving, and everyone is right handed, and there is a sudden threat from the right side. Yes, odds are, someone is covering that area, but in most cases that I've seen, it's only one or two people. So, perhaps having half the team use their weapons in their off hand when moving as a unit could increase your response time to threats from the flanks.

For instance a team moving slowly could look something like this....

                                            ^
                                         <    >
                                         <    >
                                            v

with the points denoting where their weapon is pointing. This would make it easier to observe your right flank, and not have to turn and walk sideways or backwards to make sure you are aiming to the right.
