You may wish to revise your survey. Many of the questions don't have options that suit me:

4. How far do you have to travel to get to your re-supply storefront?
Needs an "I don't have a store front" option. I buy all airsoft things from the internet.

2. How often do you play
I need an option between NEVER and 1-2 times a month.

Can you be more specific?  I think I know what you are talking about. Are you referring to the contact points in the wiring harness? The little copper stud that slides in and completes the circuit when the trigger is depressed?

Hi all. I have been a member on ASR for years but I haven't been on in a long time. The last time I was here there was no newb/intro section and since I have been away for so long I thought I would post a quick blurb about myself here.

I live in Great Falls, Montana. I am one of the technicians for the airsoft field up here, A-team Airsoft. I am completely self taught and in fact have learned most of what I know about working on airsoft guns from ASR.

I own a few nice AEG's:
- I still own my first AEG; my TM G3-SG1 although it has undergone so many changes/upgrades it can hardly be called the same gun.
- A TM MP5 full stock model. No upgrades yet.
- A TM G3-PSG1 sniper with no upgrades yet.

I have pretty much stopped playing with AEGs though. I only use my Tanaka - Colt Single Action Army .45 with the 7 1/2 barrel and a Calimacil foam sword. Now before you laugh, I have gotten 2 sword kills against AEGs and I have lost track of my revolver kills.

I just have more fun playing with non-conventional weapons. I intend to purchase a better performing revolver so I can retire my SAA (its a nice collector's piece but it is dying). Then I hope to get a "Thumper" grenade launcher and a few shells for it. I also intend to pick up a few foam throwing knives and some land mines or claymores eventually.

In my spare time I run a LARP group. My favorite color is red. I am looking forward to spending more time on ASR. It is truly a great site and I am thankful it has been here all these years.

See you on the forums!

I suspect that somehow the screws that anchor the gearbox into the body of the gun are tweaking the little plastic box that houses the trigger contacts shifting it by a fraction of a millimeter somehow.

I will be taking apart another g36 with a similar problem sometime soon. I will post back if I can fix this problem so we have an explanation/solution on record.

Thanks all for reading/posting.

Problem Solving / Echo 1 G36 trigger only engages when pulled to the side.
« on: February 10, 2012, 04:13:00 AM »
I recently was hired on as the tech for the local Airsoft field here. We rent out some Echo 1 G36s. We have about 8 of them in varying stages or repair. About 5 of them are all having the same problem. They only fire when the trigger is pulled and pressure is applied to the left. You have to just pull the trigger and push it to the left at the same time and they fire.

I completely took apart, cleaned, lubed, shimmed, and re-assembled the gearbox and tested it out of the gun body. I also paid special attention the all the electrical contacts in the there and cleaned each and bent them so they made optimal contact. I didn't have any problems when the gearbox was out of the gun and test fired but when I put it back in the g36 body and tried it I had the same problem. The gun only fired when the trigger was pushed to the side.

Has anyone encountered this? It can't just be a coincidence that 5 of our guns are doing the same thing and I am out of ideas here.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Problem Solving / Re: mp5 hop-up
« on: May 11, 2009, 12:26:12 AM »
Indeed it sounds like either a nub issue or the hop up assembly is buggered somehow. Perhaps the hop up arm has disengaged or a piece has broken? Hard to say unless you take it apart and inspect it. I have not taken apart an MP5's hop up so I can not say much, but if you take your time and use a little lube on the rubber sleeve (bucking) you shouldn't have much trouble. They are not to complicated especially compared the the innards of your gearbox.

Good luck.

7
Ok, but I would upgrade them some time then. Because they are cheap compared to some other options, they would be one of the first things I upgrade for a high speed setup. Good luck with your project.

8
Curious, you say they are a good company, so you have any experience with them? [the usam team company].

You may wish to take that up Via Private message or in the proper thread. It is getting kind of off topic.

Regarding the Celcius Tech. CTW product; I have never seen nor heard of celcius before. What other products have they made? Have they been worth much?

For 619.95 this will def. sell if it is as good as they say. I am told that these CTWs feel and oporate just like a real firearm except for the noise and lethality.

9
No chance being to loose would cause the problems you are describing. To loose will cause excessive wear and early breakage but it shouldn't cause any kind of jamming in any instance I can imagine.

I am pretty sure that "Modify" has a 6mm bearing set but I can not say anything about the durability/dependability of them. Likely able to take a 100% spring and lighter with little to no chance of warping or failure... Found it on shorty usa (of all places).
Guarder has some also. Found those at Nashville Airsoft.
I also found some by Prometheus on Ebay.

I would guess at around 20-30 bucks and almost free shipping (due to low weight) they would be a good investment.

Get some bearing bushings if you don't already plan to...clean up you contacts on the trigger switch and selector plate or get a mofset. I have no idea how mofsets work but apparently they can increase your rounds per second. The ball bearing bushings are practically a must. They will make everything smoother and are relatively cheap compared to the other upgrades.

Airsoft Players / Re: Montana players, post up!
« on: May 01, 2009, 11:50:10 PM »
I live in Helena and I would be interested in playing. It might be a little while before I get in touch with the other airsofters here. I need to dig up their contact info and I don't have a lot of spare time with working two jobs right now  :P

13
That sounds about on par with my stock TM MP5-A4...perhaps a little better. I can not be sure because I have never done a controlled test myself.

Problem Solving / Re: AGM M14 mag issues
« on: April 30, 2009, 09:34:05 PM »
Try contacting evike and see if they offer any kind of guarantee. The mags that come with a gun should work with that gun, they should make an effort to fix that. That is like someone selling you a car and then you find out that the engine in it is for a different car and doesn't work with the transmission.

Clothing/Gear / Re: A Retrospective Look at Your loadout(s)
« on: April 29, 2009, 01:55:39 AM »
The next step in my gear evolution has just taken place. Not the digital/MARPAT I had planned on but rather a step taken out of opportunity. I found a set of old navy BDUs at a thrift store for $4.00 !!! I couldn't pass that up even though they are not exactly what I wanted. They are the desert colors and are in good shape...plus they look to be more lightweight than some other BDUs i have seen. This is nice because I am always hot in the summers.

But wait, there's more! I also bought a pair of nearly new condition marine style combat boots for $10. They are not Danners but no on can tell just to look at them and they fit freaking perfect. God, I love thrift stores.

So there you have it. The number one thing that seems to have factored into my gear progression: Luck and opportunity!

Clothing/Gear / Re: A Retrospective Look at Your loadout(s)
« on: April 28, 2009, 12:37:52 AM »
My load out changes have involved many factors including the effectiveness of my camo and equipment, my knowledge, income, and my perception.

When I started I thought black was the most awesome color ever. Then I played in it. I was hotter than everyone else and my gear always looked dirty. The rare occasion we played night games my silhouette stood out.

So I got a set of cheap woodland BDUs from a local surplus store. I have used those for years with various knee pads, bets, holsters etc. but I have never had the funds to buy a nice "loadout".

Now my next big airsoft related purchase will be a complete set of digital camo bdus with a MOLLE style vest, mag holders, pistol holder, dump pouch and the like. I have a second g3 on the way and my plan is to modify the easily interchangeable stock and grip along with my loadout so I can play a regular rifleman role for one game, a Designated Marksman the next, and a support role the next. Both my gear and my gun will be modular and the digital camo seems to be effective in almost any environment.

And that kind of sums me up right there. I never have the inclination to specialize in any one thing for to long, but I tend to catch on very quickly to new things. Jack of all trades master on none...but I will exploit my versatility whenever I get the chance 8)

17
Man that seems like a lot to spend on a gun you would then need to upgrade to make formidable.

I will admit it looks beautiful and the metal one piece barrel should = stability...just way to spendy for most people that I know who play airsoft.

General Airsoft Discussion / Re: Hop-Up bucking or packing?
« on: April 27, 2009, 10:25:02 PM »
Some sites have called it "bucking" when it is used for an AEG and "packing" when it is for a gas blow back pistol or the like. Essentially the same thing in each case just applied to different items.

Problem Solving / Re: JG G3 SG/1 air Nozzle length?
« on: April 26, 2009, 11:35:18 PM »
My stock TM g3 nozzle is exactly 21mm from end to end when measured removed from the gearbox.

Here is my thinking,
Process of elimination:

1) Is the piston to long? = No
2) Is the sector gear to long? = No
3) Is the shim job to tight? = No
4) Does adjusting the "timing" fix the problem? = No
5) Is the mechbox "clamped" down to tight thus making the piston cease up? = No
6) Is there something wrong with the battery? = Unknown
7) Is there something wrong with the motor? = Unknown
8) Is there something wrong with the contacts that get the juice from the battery to the motor long enough for the gears to make a full stroke? = Unknown

I would devise a way to test for questions 6 - 8. Perhaps try the battery in another aeg? Try the motor in another aeg? Try another battery or motor in this aeg...If you think it might be a problem with the contacts as mentioned in (8) I am afraid you will need to seek advice from someone else as I have little to no expertise in that area.

Good luck. I hate when problems don't make any sense.

Sounds like that nub phenomena aznriptide859 spoke of is the issue. Perhaps if you could disassemble the mag you could remove the stopper nub and more accurately mod it. Or you could compress the tension spring on the nub for a long time in an attempt to weaken it a little so it doesn't bugger up things...

Do you have any gear box experience? My next guess would be the tappet plate is causing issues with the nozzle timing...

22
Is that a stock sector gear? It acts like it has to many teeth. If you have put any new gears in I would revert to stock/compare to see if there are any discrepancies.

Second guess: Timing issue. Try playing around with that 1 o'clock - 2 or 3 or whatever o'clock and see if you can find a calibration that works

Last guess: There is to much friction in the gear box causing it to lock up or not enough power from you batt/motor to get that piston all of the way back. Is the piston the same length as stock piston?

Good luck. That is frustrating i am sure.

"...the helecil part of the gear on the bevel started spinning on the shaft..."

So, I am trying to understand...the bevel gear is essentially busted? I don't have any experience with these kind of gears so perhaps they are built differently than normal ones 'cause I don't see how that would happen on a normal gear...

You can find some really good deals for the mount. I use one that is the "low profile" and it works great...however i did have to remove my rear sight to make it fit correctly. Also they say that my mount is for a G3 or MP5, but there is a little bit sticking up on the MP5 that makes it not fit by about 1.5mm. Not a big deal, I just use it on my G3.

So far as "best red dot" I don't know. Everyone has preferences and opinions but generally with airsoft, I find my cheapo BSA(brand) red dot gets the job done just fine. If I could go back, I would get a more squarish looking red dot because I think that those look cooler on the G3 but meh.

Spring Discussion / Re: metal pistol identification?(unknown brands)
« on: April 19, 2009, 12:21:49 AM »
Indeed, as I recall not even the hammer moved. Still, all metal for cheap isn't such a bad deal...especially if it shoots fairly well.
