AEG Discussion / KWA KM4 SR10 FPS upgrades help/advice wanted.
« on: January 08, 2013, 10:36:16 PM »
Hello.  I'll cut to the chase I'm going to be purchasing my first upgrade parts and installing them on my KWA.  I'm aiming for around 500 fps constant after semi-auto locking the gun.  I haven't previously upgraded any guns and would appreciate any advice on the matter.

My thoughts as a newb to upgrade work were to start with the spring.  My questions are what spring, what parts do I need to upgrade to handle a new spring and should I also upgrade the barrel at the same time? Or would a new barrel make any sense at this time.

Focusing on one thing at a time but eventually would also like to get the gun to reach as far as "airsoftly" possible.  Ha.

Thanks for any help.

Evike, start with spring and ammo weight.

I've always viewed ACU and the like as our modern urban camouflage pattern.  If you're not operating in the midst of downtown New York or Chicago, you're not going to blend in to anything any better than if you were simply wearing all black, and most of the time black would be a better alternative.

As for what I think are the most effective camo patterns for covering a wide range of enviornments, this is planet earth people, foliage and oceans cover atleast 90% of it's surface.  You'll never find anything more widely effective than classic woodland camo or multicam.

I've never understood why at themed games appearing in either of those patterns will normally place you on the "enemy" team rather than US speacial forces or whatever team the US is supposed to be.
My team all uses one of those two camo patterns, and we always kick the US's ***.  I don't take pride in it. ;)

Ha, Booligan you are way too helpful.  Thanks a lot problem solved.  Trogdoor, good luck with yours.

If I remember right, you take the rubber pad off the butt stock and there's a screw under there that you tighten. It's either that or the screw on the bottom of the pistol grip. Been a while since I stripped mine down.

Leave a thread for a day and it gets away from you. ;)  I had about five minutes to look at the gun two days ago and I tried tightening the hex screw in the pistol grip but it didn't seem to affect anything.

The gun is the full stock version so if you and Trogdor are right it must be under the butt stock.  I'm looking at it though and it doesn't seem like the rubber pad was made to come off easily so are you two absolutely sure?  Thanks for answering so quickly by the way.

Yikes, 3X DSG would be brief, but awesome insanity.  I would only get five trigger pulls before it was out of BBs.

All the more realistic...   ;) Halo fan.

You're all familiar with the tri-shot shotgun clones.  If not and you need more info then just ask.  I own the UTG model.  I always carry a springer alongside my primary and secondaries because of their reliability.  As for the shotguns, they're cheap, reliable, and look bad*** strapped to your back.  What more could you want right?

I haven't previously had any problems with the UTG, resulting in the only maintenance I've had to perform on the gun is cleaning the barrel.  Even now I would only call this a minor annoyance, but it could become a problem quickly which is why I'm asking.

So the stock is loose, only slightly but enough to wobble if only gripped one handed.  I was brought down to just the shotgun last weekend and I did a lot of running in the aftermath.  That'll do it.
I want to tighten the stock back up again before using it so it doesn't get any worse.  Only I couldn't actually figure out what screw does it or if it's even possible.  I'm assuming that it is possible to tighten it because of the other varient of the gun available with a pistol grip.  I had always thought the stock and pistol grip were inter-changeable, but I don't know for sure.  Anybody more familiar with these stocks?

That isn't that funny. At all. You can get a waterproof gun case?

Whoa, Limey is a respected member here at ASR.  You must never tell him if his joke is not funny.  Even if it wasn't... (No offense Limey)

I can just picture it now.
Team Member:  "Uhh, buddy...?"
Me:  "Yes?"
Team Member:  "Why do you have that huge case strapped to your back?"
Me:  "Oh, that's my waterproof gun case.  Jusy in case..." 8)
Team Member:  "Riight..  By the way who's the leader here?"
Me:  "That'd be me."
Team:  "Greeaat..."

No, now that I know the gun can take it, I'll simply do it when it's necessary and be sure to strip it later.  Last question that I want a few more opinions on though, would you do it?

But underwater, no one can hear your garbage bag crinkle- indirect quote from Alien...

You would have to put the bag over the gun outside of the water, then take it off after and possibly have to fold it up and carry it on you for a while until you could toss it.  Plus while you're carrying it depending on where you have it there could still be that crinkling sound coming from it with every move you make.

I've blown cover before because of the sound of ammo rolling around in a High-Cap.  You're garbage bag idea doesn't work for me.

Edit:  Ha, oh and good one.  I was too serious when I first answered to this, took me a second look to actually realize the joke.

11
No it would work, but the noise! >:(  All the noise noise noise noise!!  - Quote from The Grinch

12
Eh, it's possible.  But taking the time to "plug" both ends of the barrel would probably take more time than it's worth, considering that the main point in doing this would be to save time.

The same goes for whoever brought up the idea to use a trash bag to transport the gun.  Aside from taking extra time trash bags make too much noise for them to ever be considered a good thing in the field.  You might as well tie a bell to your neck and skip everywhere you go.

HA!  Hey thanks anyways but this is the main field my team uses.  Well that was a little dissapointing...  Gave me a good laugh though.  Small world.

It's really just a "oh look what it can really do" scenario.

Basically yes that's the bulk of even discussing doing this.  More often than not there won't be any practical reason for doing this other than to try and show off.  Where it would be useful the most to me is at private matches.  We hold games in a lot of locations close to our town, Kenosha WI, including along the front of Lake Michigan.  There are a few advantages that simply being able to do this would lend you if you have any fields with deeper water found in them.  Like someone posted above "why would you even do this I've only ever had to go knee deep at the most", the great majority of fellow players you'll encounter will never expect someone to even be willing to do this.  In all honesty have any one of you ever kept an eye on a river bed after checking down it and clearing it once? (Of course I'm only refering to players with fields that have deep enough water)
Aside from a possible unexpected direction of enemy fire, it would be great for getting around faster or slipping behind the line.  Especially when the few bridges a river may have are considered a death wish for being such terrible choke points.

I hadn't considered yet the dirt and grit that would end up in your barrel (mentally picturing a world with nothing but water as pure as what we drink).  That stops me, I could never willingly reduce my guns accuracy. :-X  Although I would still jump at the chance to do this during summer months.

I am surprised.  Deadeye, I've actually seen that exact video before in the past, but had no way of knowing if they had modified any part of the wiring or what possible long term effects it may have had on the gearbox aside from rusting.

Drying the water from the gun would be my first action as soon as possible.  I would most likely do a quick strip down in between rounds and I would advise anyone who does this to do the same.
A concern of mine is that if I were ever to partake in an overnight milsim operation (which I have yet to do) and submerged the gun early on, how bad would the damage be if I didn't get the chance to properly strip the gun, dry and clean it until the end of the op.  What's a minimum time frame a player would have before risking permanent damage to the gearbox?  I would assume only a few hours.

Also I know this is possible with GBB's, but are there any extra side effects the water would have on a GBB besides rusting?

Wisconsin airsofter here.   I don't use facebook but fields are hard to come by here, would you mind giving me some information?

Like any other person with a decent amount of common sense, your intitial thought on this should be:  Battery = Electricity, Electricity + Water = Death. :P

Now speaking through the ignorance of the average person, I'd like to be able to do this.  I've heard rumors of the legendary EBHU (Enemy Bastards Hiding Underwater, Yes I Completely Just Made That Up But Get Over It), at several outdoor fields me and my team appear at regularly.  We've always had our feet wet more often than dry because our strategy's usually include using the rivers to cover our movement, over the other option of making our way on dead branches and leaves.  Rivers vary in depth at different points though, and we've never been able to use them to their full potential, being that we all use AEG's as our primary.  But, if it is true that an AEG can be used after being completely submerged in water, or perhaps with the right modifications, then we could gain a big advantage over opposing teams.

The idea sounds completely idiotic to me, so I want to know what you think or have heard about the topic.  Of course I could always try it and find out, considering an AEG battery doesn't have enough voltage to stop a human heart, but I would like to have kids someday.

18
Alright so the best option is to get a replacement selector plate and cut it down.  Thanks.

19
If it has to be mechanically disabled, get some spare parts so you can undo the changes

This is the route I'd like to go, I can't afford any known or common restrictions to prohibit the rifle from being used (literally).  But the most important thing I'm looking for is for it to be a clean job and reversible.

21
The rifle's a KWA SR10, but whatever mod I make to the selective fire on it I'm going to need to be completely reversible.

22
I've been working on modifying a stock AEG to be used as a DMR (like everyone seems to be doing these days).  I overlooked the fact that many fields require a rifle to be single-fire only to be used as a DMR, so now I need instructions on how to do this to a full-auto capable AEG.
If anyone can give me good instruction or lead me to a sight that will have it, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

(Apologies for not replying sooner)
i don't like the magnifier. lol

So you do own it then.  Do you simply just dislike the poor eye relief or is there another reason?

This is a DMR setup (where DMR means accuracy upgraded AEG with 350-400 fps power)

What model M4 do you use the sight with?  I've been in a small debate with a teamate on what classifies a rifle as a DMR over a BR, with me giving your definition of a DMR.  The rifle the sight will be mounted on fits the definition.

As for the lense protectors I've never truly considered mounting one for other sights before now because I prefer to stick with the "don't get shot at" plan, but I might order one for this sight in the future depending if it comes up or not.  And at this point I am ordering the sight.  I just want to dig up any more problems I can find with it to be aware of.

;) Oh yea and I told myself I can't play CoD any more because every time I do it just makes me want to Airsoft, which is hard to do at 2am.

24
This dot sight works well, I've just recently found reviews on it so it won't be a problem.  And I actually know the aimpoint magnifier you're talking about, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for.  It should work almost exactly the same as this magnifier though so I'll just ask you this.  How do you like it?

25
Do you happen to own the red dot as well?  I expected it to work well enough but I want to know about quality, basically if it's metal construction or not (assuming yes).

I'm more concerned about the magnifier because I've never owned anything similiar.  Could you possibly give me a number from one to ten on how much of your vision it actually blocks out versus just looking through the dot sight by itself?  I understand it will be off to the side more than not because for Airsoft it is unnecessary, but I'd rather have optics that can be used for surveillance mounted on my rifle over carrying them elsewhere.  Plus I do sharpshoot so even if I can see a target well enough to hit them without magnification I still prefer it.
