Clothing/Gear / Re: Vest Size vs. Tallness
« on: December 12, 2008, 04:43:49 PM »
I agree with roob, while Im taller than you guys at 5'8" but Im only running 140lbs. I wear a Small reg BDU jacket and have had a hard time fitting properly in stuff. I have two guarder Racks (basically the same as MAVs) and they cinch down great and fit really well. Id love to go all out and get a TT with x-harness and bib but i havent had the cash to do it yet. The Condor rig seems a good option as well. Ive found oen of the thinsg I want in a rig is to feel inclosed to a degree but not so as much as in say an IBA or a full on plate carrier. In Florida it just gets too hot, the chest rigs give you a lot of room to breathe.

A good non molle option would be the army issue LBV or ELBV they cinch down quite well too ive found.

Also if your not opposed to DCU ebay has some SDS Ranger Racks for like $20ish

Useless action shot:

Clothing/Gear / Re: Spending the extra dollar on bio's worth it?

If you dotn need bios for your field i see no need in getting them. As for .20 or .25's that depends on what fps your running...

My wife (5'4" ) either wears alice or a small IBA. She prefers the IBA for breast protection......

Gun Modifications/Parts/Accessories / KA thompson midcaps mini review
« on: December 07, 2008, 03:56:11 PM »
Okay, I special ordered from airsoft-unlimited.net two boxs of KA m1a1 Thompson mid-caps.

Brads customer service is great and he's a very helpful individual.

The magazines come in a box of 5.  They are approx 110 rounds sometimes you can squeeze a little more, but 110 is a good number. The box says lubricate before use but upon pulling my mags out I could tell they were pre-lubed. They feed great. I let loose on full auto and emptied the mid-caps without a miss-feed.

Fitting them into the receiver is varied. I have three cyma thompson and they fit in 2 of them with just alittle tap on the bottom to seat the mag. The third was very tight in the receiver and required a whack to seat them. Im thinking the is an issue with the gun, not the magazines, as the receiver is plastic it will wear so my other two may have been more worn down than the third. So far as I can tell thats there only flaw. Even that I was able to fix with a mini file and filing down the inner channel on the magazine, I can tell the difference it makes every pass over.

The magazines are built like MAG mid-caps.  With a U channel inside allowing more BBS to fit. The spring is held in place by a plastic lock bar that is held in place by a pin that goes thru the body. The seam isn't too bad along the sides of the body.

My pics made the magazine look way way worse than it is in real life. If your bold you can attempt to make 20 rounders.
I pulled the pin out and removed the lock Bar nd removed the spring. I then carefully pried open the casing with a flathead screwdriver. This did break part of the seams but it fits back together decently.

I cut about a 2" section out of the middle and then plastic welded the ends back together. More practice at this will result in a better finished product ims till debating about continuing with 4 other magazines....

I super glued the magazine back together and left it clamped to dry. Then i cut about 31/2 inches of the spring and replaced it. I now have an approx 85 round 20 round mid-cap. It needs alot of external finish work but it works and is pretty solid.

So go ahead and ask questions:

Okay, got my painting done. The antique pewter matched the garand parts pretty good.

The brownish part in the front is actually the stock color reflecting from the flash, its not brown on the receiver at all.

Clothing/Gear / Re: Will a King Arms Thompson Midcap work in a CYMA?

They do work in the thompson but they are a little tight at first, it actually required a pretty good whack to seat the magazine. They feed great tho.

« on: November 22, 2008, 06:13:42 AM »
All the pictures it looks like its working is at dawn or dusk. if you look at natural day time pictures it still doesnt blend in. Plus you can tell their acu's and gear is reall dirty and worn, which actually seems to help UCP.

I think it sucks. It only took me building an almost entire US infantry loadout to figure that out ;)

Dont get the strike series get the profile nvg series. Strike uses foam lining while the Profiles use the rubber. Which I think is more sanitary.

I was reffering to the flaps on the doubles (not sure which flaps now lol) For the flaps on the shingles I tuck them inside the pouch and run my mags in them anyway.

Base model is a Cyma. The stock tightbore was the deciding factor for me over the AGM. I kinda did this on a budget so a TM or other was out of the question.

As for the Garand hump, im going to have to really study the stock i have and pictures. Im afraid too much hump on the M14 stock will make the hopup hard to access for adjustment. 2nd bat on ww2airsoftassocation boards uses bondo and screws to make his hump, maybe ill take a more detailed look at his pictures.

Your paintjob is very nice what method did you use Ed? I love how dark it is.

Also note the rear notch cut out for the m14 butt cover on BigEds conversion. Mine is filled in and i used an actual Garand butt plate.
