Im an airsoft Tech from Pa, and I purchased one of these BV AKS74U's which I find to be really nice. I have worked on a few other APS guns (Echo1 Wolverine) before so I can discuss a few things internally in detail. Ill sum it all up so I don't go on a long rant.
- Piston and piston head are proprietary.
Piston body is slightly thinner in height, and aftermarket pistons will not fit. Also the hole for the piston head to attach to on the piston body is wider, so your forced to use there spare parts. Its not a big deal, just correct the aoe with sorbothane pads and your set. The pistons second tooth is removed so it makes aoe easy to do.
- Battery space is a pain.
The wire length, blowback mechanism, and large mosfet housing make it difficult to get a battery in. You can barely get a 8.4v nimh in there, and the gun should really be used with a 9.6v. I assume they suggest to use a lipo, but your forced to use a short stick type. The issue with this, is your limited to MAH with stick lipos, and not all stick lipos fit. You'd have to get a few spares to make this skirmish able. I use a battery sling with mine to solve this issue.
- Lack of scope rail mount and spring guided top cover
I was rather upset with this, but if your crafty enough, you can bore and tap the receiver to mount the bracket. The top cover doesn't have a spring in it, so it makes it annoying to install a battery.
- Comes with an Ak47 mag
This has been covered by Booligan. I'm a purist, and I'm pretty upset they didn't give it the right mag.
All in all, in my opinion this gun isn't for starters, or those who don't have a tech available. I admire there ambition, but I think they shouldn't have included blowback with the added MOSFET. My suggestions for this gun go as follows:
*Add Locktite to the piston head screw. I have seen them come off from the vibration of the blowback/piston cycle.
* Correct Aoe to prevent piston damage ( you should do this for all ages imo)
* Get a battery sling for it. http://hotspotairsoft.com/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=32&products_id=1906&osCsid=hn7tvuamqo21g6g90nkprq93c4
* Get a flash hider for it!
The one it comes with is hideous!!!UPDATE!!! I forgot to mention that this gun comes with an H nub!!!! I was very surprised to find that out when cleaning the barrel. I skirmished with it last weekend, and the gun is awesome!!!! It has great range for a small gun, and very good handling. I got a lot of compliments too
