Reverse polarity on airsoft batteries???
« on: January 07, 2012, 02:47:02 PM »

I am looking for a battery for my VFC SCAR and I was looking on my favorite site for my R/C's and found that they now stock airsoft batteries. I was looking @ this one: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0095P?FVSEARCH=sa1958&search=Go and noticed there was a note that reads: "IMPORTANT-Venom Tactic Power Airsoft batteries are wired with REVERSED POLARITY from the radio control industry standard. Always double check polarity of the airsoft gun."
This is strange because I have never heard of this anywhere else before. Can anyone tell me if there is any truth to this because I need to get a battery ASAP and this is the least expensive one I could find.

the battery connection in the picture is the same setup as the stock connection on my scar so you should be alright.

Great. Thanks for the link. My next question is: will I need to get an Airsoft specific charger or can I use an r/c charger? I want to get a programmable charger like I had for an electric r/c truck I had that will allow me to monitor charge rate, elapsed time, mAH charged, ect. But I don't want to waste my $ on something that isn't even compatible with Airsoft batteries.
This was the charger I was looking at: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXTCK0&P=ML
It doesn't have a picture of the charging leads which would be my main concern, but this is an excellent charger and it even has  D/C  alligator clips if the field doesn't have an outlet.

no you dont need a specific airsoft charger, that charger will work just fine and it has reverse polarity protection.

If the battery doesn't fit the charger's clip then you can always make a pigtail that will fit your battery. I had to do that and it takes like 10 minutes. It only took so long because I don't have the specific crimper for tamiya and had to use needle nose pliers. Make sure to use the correct gauge wire or thicker (go lower in numbers) so you won't get any heat build up.

Awesome. Thanks for all the help guys. I could always just swap the pins around in the connector it's self lol. I wasn't even thinking about it!! The pins are made to removeable for just that reason.
