I agree completely. The funny part is that many of these skilled labor jobs are actually quite high paying. Welders out here make $50-80k per year, depending on their employer, length of time, experience, etc. This is decent money for something that requires very little schooling, if any, and time on the job.

The real ticket in welding is to get your diver's license.  They're banking over $100K a year out West.

But it costs 3x as much to live out west.  ;)

When I was younger I got a job offer in San Diego for ~$200k and thought it sounded like a good raise until I realized what it cost for the equivalent of my house and cars and to raise 3 kids in that region. My lifestyle would suffer dramatically despite the higher numbers on my check.

Out west doesn't refer specifically to California.  The cost of living is quite a bit lower in most of the states out west than it is in California.

Most airsoft gun owners look back on their purchases and have regrets.  Maruzen CA870 owners don't have that problem.

Where are these 50k+ welding jobs?  A quick look at the job postings here in NE have their earnings around $15-20/hr.  Not terrible but not great for breathing in toxic fumes all day.

Well when you live in a hick town where the term "air-purifying respirator" is unheard of, I can understand that these jobs don't exist.

Welders around here start out around $15.  Some start working with the local factories, make pretty good money, and get a guaranteed retirement at an early age.  The really smart ones buy their own truck and go in to business for themselves.
