So I've had a D-boy Scar-L for about a year now, and I'm looking to upgrade the internals so it can reach out and touch the other team just a tad better. Would I need to replace the whole gearbox and inner barrel or something as simple as the hop-up and piston? In other words, what can I keep stock, and what should be upgraded in order to make the gun shoot further?

A better hop up bucking/nub combo along with a quality tightbore barrel will make a big difference in consistency, accuracy, and range. Also you can swap out for a new hop up unit entirely if you so please.

If you do switch to a tight bore make shur you clean it reguraly to keep up your accuracy and range.

What FPS is your gun shooting?

Either way, as far as accuracy goes a good barrel and bucking/nub combo will do the trick.
As well as ALWAYS using quality bbs, but you should already be doing that.
