Thoughts on gears (torque scenarios)
« on: May 18, 2012, 12:49:50 AM »

I'm still newish to airsoft, specifically aftermarket parts and such.
I just broke my second gear set and I'm looking for a replacement set.
But since this is only the second set I've had, I would like to see peoples opinions on other makes.
Both sets broke on the outer ring of the spur gear; if that leads any thought to it being my shim job or a mechbox warp/deficiency.

spring: PDI 190%
Motor: AMP Tactical T5000L

Thank you in advance.

I'd suggest just picking up a set of xyt gears or some SHS gears. With the SHS gears, if you still have the bevel gear, then you could just use that with the SHS and avoid all the bevel problems the Gen 2 gears have had.
Buy of you do have the budget, git with riotsc gears

What rof are you trying to get?

I was getting 18 rps, with a 7.4v and I guess that's fine; I just want the trigger response--which I guess goes hand in hand with RPS even though I'm not on auto.

If your getting your rof through a high torque motor (if that makes sense). Then it's pretty much the higher the rof the better the trigger response will be.

As for gear sets, as said before XYT is a good set Ive ran them in a couple of my guns before. Nothing with the strength you have but they were strong and made a good material... As for the gear breaking where it did, Ive never had that issue so I cannot be of help
