Aftermarket M28 pistons are here!
(1/1)
~Ranger~:
Well here it is guys, There is now a replacement aluminum piston for your M28's.
I havent posted this here yet and will catch you all up to speed. I am copy and pasting the last few posts that I havent posted here from another site.
Well guys, here she is, all finished and ready for my testing!
Bottom piston is our prototype M28 piston, center one is the stock M28 piston and the top is a Vsr piston..
The rear of the new piston is not aluminum, it is steel. Has a delron ring and its pretty nice!
Here is a video of me testing its compression. I only held the air in the cylinder for 10 seconds and released but I have held it for 20 seconds already and it held perfectly!

Last weeks review
I got to use the M28 today with its pretty new piston. Between last night, fiddling with my rifle getting it to feed and todays game, and I let everyone try it out, I have put about a hundred shots through it already. I am only shooting at 421fps cause I need stronger sears before I bump up to 500fps. Here are the pics I took a few minutes ago so we can all see how its holding up.
I found no wear on the piston except a little on the delrin spacer.
I have little to no fear that this will blow out and I am going to be ordering some SHS sears very soon so I can try my hardest to kill this piston. I plan to try to shoot this rifle everyday and keep count. I figure maybe 25-50 shots per day till I get my sears. I will take pics every hundred shots and post them. If you have any questions, please ask.

Well guys, I got to 200 shots and here are my findings.

I really didnft see anything I didnft expect. The sear catch looks beautiful! I did see a few scratches but thatfs expected. I cant believe I would be using my M28 again. I hope you guys are excited as we are.
I will try to get out more shots faster, I received a few pmfs asking if Ifm still updating tonight, I have nothing else to say..
Ifm sorry guys, I know its pretty hard not to be excited to use these awesome rifles again.
Herefs a few pics.
I tried white and black background trying to find the best way to see the details in the piston.
I will get my next hundred shot report sooner next time.

UP TO DATE as of 8-13

I am now at 300 shots and the piston is still perfect! We are considering a wider delron ring.
We have decided to go ahead and start making these for others, there is no way this sear catch is going to wear out.
I will post in the sales section when we have a few made and ready to sell. Price will be decided by then.
I covered the sear catch in sharpy to show any new scratches to check for wear. All I found was the sharpy was rubbed off.

Bedy nice. I think you'll get more views if you post this in the sniper's perch, but it's no matter really. I actually saw you post this on ASSF.
How did you go about making this? Lathe? CNC? And, the delrin rings, maybe you should consider rounding out the rings instead of having it flat, just to help reduce friction and wear. That's what mostly all, if not all, aftermarket pistons have.
Overall, well done!

What would you suggest? I thought it fits perfectly. The title says M28 pistons, its all about M28 pistons,lol..
Would something like "Aftermarket M28 pistons" work better? or, "Prototype M28 pistons" be better?

Thanks buddy, I guess I did sorta put this in the wrong section didnt I,hahaha.. I saw the "Spring" section and just went there, maybe a Mod would be able to move this to the Snipers perch for me.
The piston was made on a lathe. Manual lathe to be exact. My partner works in a machine shop and instead of using the bigger tools, he decided to see how easy it would be to make this way, since this would be the type of machine he was planning on buying for his garage to make them at home. So far this piston is great and I can get out and use my beloved M28 again. "and make people mad cause I love an M28 and not the same ole same ole Bar10" Not that the Bar10 isnt a great rifle, I have 2 of them. I just prefer the M28 by a long shot. As for the delrin being rounded, thats something I didnt even notice,hahaha.. I didnt realize they werent rounded yet. This is just my prototype test model. I will let my busines partner know we need to round off the edges. I cant belive we didn't do that, we shoulda known better,lol..

Based on shear appearance, in picture #4, that stock piston looks exactly like what is in my TSD M700 Snipers Rifle.
And it also appears to me that the VSR piston is shorter. Yet I'm wondering if the shorter VSR version wouldn't put out a tad more volume of air because of that.
Obviously it would decompress the spring more by traveling forward a bit more. But also when cocked, there would be more room ahead of it in the cylinder, therefore, more volume (ultimately) hitting the barrel.
As far as the flat VS: rounded Delron glide ring, if the ring is rounded I would think it would have less drag.
But there is a trade off, less drag would also mean it would wear faster than your flat version.
Any thoughts of making one with a cup type piston? (Like Polarstar and Angel and others offer.)
I'm sending you a PM. ;)
