I've recently began planning to do an XM8 Project using the BE XM8 as a base and working up from there. Internals are already taken care of. I am looking for tips on how to do the externals. Optical has been taken care of. (Thanks go to Mig1 for his guide: http://www.airsoftretreat.com/oldforums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=88323&SearchTerms=XM8) Pending Magazine Design is the STAR SL9 (I'd like insight to these magazines or maybe suggest something different. Flashhider planned is going to be from a DPMS Kitty Kat. DJMikeOz and I found that this thing would look very nice on an XM8 Sharpshooter Variant. Tightbore Length planned is M16 Length (509mm) So, that leaves for the outer barrel to be decided. To my knowledge, the XM8 does not use any threads at all for the outer barrel, so I'd like suggestions on what materials should be used to make one and how to fit it onto the XM8 body. I have calculated that the outer barrel would need to be 6" long to house the planned inner barrel. Here is a Pre-lim Design Image: Please help. Thanks.

Go to home depot and get a 2ft section of copper pipe. There's one size (I just got today) that looks perfect for a barrel. Try that; just JB weld it on the old barrel. I'll get some pics up tomorrow since I'm also making a new barrel.

ok, with the outer barrel, you could do one of two things. the easiest way is to switch it out with a CA 36 outer barrel. the other way is to make a simple extension of it with something with the same Inner Diameter (ID) as the mx-8's outer barrel outer diameter (OD). as for the flashhider, I disagree, the phantom is too small for a gun this big. I suggest something like an a-15 or xm-177 flashhider. an aug flashhider would look good too. on a similar note, I may turn my BE xm8 into an h-bar.

The Kitty Kat's outer barrel seems quite large, though I havent seen the size of an XM8. I really like the design, and for a Sharpshooter rifle, I wouldnt want it to be huge either.
Should I just go for a lengthened G36 4-Prong style? Or just a simple birdcage? The XM8 Sharpshooter Variant uses a simple birdcage flashhider attached to the lengthened barrel, it looks awesome, but I thought the Kitty Kat (Phantom?) Flashhider looked better.
What about an SPR type? The one Mike made looked awesome, not sure how it would look on an XM8. I assume most flashhiders that look good on M4/M16s would look good on the XM8 as the XM8 is built upon the standard M4/M16 size.
M4 -- XM8 Standard Carbine
M16 -- XM8 Sharpshooter
I was surprised to see the barrel figures. The Standard Carbine XM8 is the same length as the standard M4 Length. The XM8 Sharpshooter is the same as the M16 length, so tightbores are relatively easy to fit.

OffT whats an H-bar?
OT: Awesome. Id go with the G36 lengthened prong myself...but hey lol thats me. Try to get a CA G36 barrel it would replace the plastic Be stuff and be better in the long run. Ive got a Be MGB comin for my XM8 TAR, which I may try to convert to metal parts eventually.

I am thinking its an AUG H BAR I saw awhile back. Either that, or some other type. Maybe H Bar is just a variation of a weapon, so it could be done to a various range of weapons...hmm. Well, with this picture, I am leaning towards the lengthened prong style. It looks badass, but can anyone help me locate an outer barrel to buy? I've had a hard time searching for G36 parts. Please...

no, it's a mexican g36k. for real.
as for h-bar, it's the standard name for a heavy-barreled rifle for machine-gun use.

I'd go for a proper Heavy MG barrel (uber-long sharpshooter), OR go with the 20" Barrel, Phantom flash hider, and use the BE [30rd] magazines. Bipod would be cool, but isn't necessary.

That picture of the 1st XM8, or MExican G36, whatever it may be, looks computer rendered. So does it even exist for real?
I think it would look good with the birdcage flash hider.
Also, It would be cool to make the magazine shorter, or modit to take something else. Long mags in sharpshooter rifle just dont look quite right.

That's pretty clearly computer done, you can tell by the shading. That's what it looks like to me at least...

it's not. though I can see what you mean. however, I've seen several pics of this gun. and it takes STANAG, not m16, mags.

Of course he's right, lol. I'm not sure about the "odification" part, that's usually my territory, lol.
Anyways, this should be almost as cool as my modded DE, lol.
