I've had people walk past me no more than a couple feet away and never even know it, so I'd say its proven itself pretty well.  Still haven't had someone step on me, I can usually shoot them before they get that close.  Still, my ghillie has saved my hide (figuratively) several times.  Yay for ghillies.

I cant say top quality but I can say good the botom gets stuck on my boots. Here it is at www.bushrag.com its the ultra light long jacket. I was thinking about cutting it down the middle to just under the arm pits. Like a T and turn into a blanket of some sort.

see this pic of my rifle?
http://i2.tinypic.com/orhw78.jpg
one of my suits looks like that all over.

i have like, 4 ghillie suits..  2-3 of them are operational, the last one was kind of cannabalized to make my most recent one, but some material is still there and i still use the netting for biological foliage additions.

Where's the option for I don't use a Ghilie? I seriously don't. They work great at concealing yoruself in more open area's, and Im not knocking thier use at all, but I just move too much and through way too much dense foilage with thorns to use a Ghilie. I just go out in standard BDU's, and use the natural terrain to my advantage.

I have to admit, this makes it more challenging, as you are more limited on your choice for fire lanes, but it makes it more of a challenge as well, which is always good.

in the games that i play, i have found that the ghillie suit really helps conceal my position, but it also keeps me from being mobile, so to deal with this i got rid of the pants, i just made a ghillie out of a large sweatshirt, so it can conceal most of my body, long enough for me to slip by unnoticed, and it also allows me to move quickly across areas where there is no action, not to mention its a lot less hot inside than in a full jumpsuit version!

I tend to like using ghillies, even if the terrain is difficult, because you CAN shoot from anywhere, and it saves you if you are surrounded.  For weight and mobility, get a ghillie that just covers your back.  Same effectiveness as the full suit when prone, but much lighter.  It all depends on your style.  If you're more of a DM, then you may want a ghillie poncho or jacket, because you'll tend to shoot from upright more often, or else just use BDU's.  Lots of camouflage options out there, although I do prefer the half-ghillie.

thats pretty damn good Boardslide.  i like how you left the legs free so they wont get snagged too much.

a trick i learned for my Mk2 suit(threaded like yours, not strips of material) is try not to keep your threads all straight and combed down like cousin It..  scramble those suckers up into one giant dreadlock that you inhabit in the middle of(not like a giant dreadlock hump protruding off your back) and the next time your out on a stalk and need some quick cover, roll around a couple times on some leaflitter and they will coat you in local flora faster than you can say "Hot damn I look sexy!"

cheers!

I think this thread should be changed to "How would you rate your custom ghillie suit" because buying it is kind of cheap (automatically top quality, hopefully). I rated mine poor, because I used "Aleene's Super Fabric Glue" instead of whatever I have seen people do. I just couldn't find it anywhere. Because of that, the strands are not put onto the ghillie very firmly, and can fall off. But it is still very good. It's fun to just sneak up on people and jump out and scare them...hehehe.

Custom made ghillie suit - I don't recall how long it took me to make it as I was working on it while in college I'd say roughly 25-30 hours.

These aren't the best scenarios for ghillie use - but the camera was there.

Since these pictures I have had to redo the suit (playing paintball ran through the woods - got snagged). I'm going to be making the netting so it can snap on and off of my BDUs ( for those big games where I have to get from point A to point B but don't need the ghillie at the moment).

You should pelt them with candy first, then scare the crap out of them. ;D

That, or impersonate a cop and scare them. Or call their parents. Man, I wish I had stupid kids in the neighborhood here.

LOL SWoooping down would be SOOO awesome... Ive done the lay in dry leaves and wait for them to come to the door and then pop up thing... But ive never swooped down out of a tree.!!! lol that would scare the crap outta people.

KNowing my luck, i would try to swing out of the tree and the rope would snap.  In the corner of the kids eyes, theyed hear a snap and this big bush thing fall out of a tree and thud onto the ground, and be like... OWWWWW... that hurt. lol

CottonTheMoth - Yup that's me - easy to spot in a pic cause I said I was there - but I had people walk right past me to the door of the house without seeing me (not that they were particularly looking). Thanks for the kudos.

Gerg Left, in that second pic, is that a pic of you in your ghillie or a pic of just your ghillie. That's a good ghillie, but you should really take a pic of just the ghillie in an obvious background, so we can see it's detail.

Emu - As soon as I get my ghillie suit finished I'll get a picture of the suit so that you can see the detail.

As for the second picture...That's not just the ghillie - it's me in the ghillie prone.

one of these times I need to tell the photographer not to put me in the exact middle of the picture...
