Homemade CQB field?
Shoot2Thrill:
I was thinking that if you have even a decent sized backyard with good privacy, you could probably make a cheap cqb arena, and you could even be able to rearrange for each game.I thought that you could simply buy a ton of ply wood and make walls ot form hallways, rooms, etc. You could build roofs in certain places, floors are optional, and you could build halls and rooms seperatley so you can connect them differentley in order to make a house with a different layout.Plus you could make a maze, and in the fall, a haunted house. You could charge admission, but there are probably laws making you get a business license and stuff. Anyways, do you think this would work as a cool thing for a few friends to play in in the backyard(helps keep it more private)
Icey101:
Go price plywood and 2x4s.

Dont take my word for it but I THINK there isnt laws against building things in your backyard. As long as its not connected to your house, like an extension of some sort, then thats when you need a permit thing. Anyway unless you have that much money to blow then go ahead! Also you might need somebody who knows how to build things, so while your playing the whole thing doesnt collapse on you.

i work in an arhitect firm so i think i might be able to help out a little with some starter info. depending on where you live (if your state and local jurisdiction abides by IBC - International Buidling Code), how many people you would plan on have over, and if you ever plan on charging, you may need a permit. the safest way to build without one is to first and foremost check local AHJ (authority having Jurisdiction) regulations and ordinaces regarding size, location and such. all this is very important unless you live ouf in the middle of nowhere. as long as you stay within the ordincances and such you shouldn't be bugged by building officials if you lose the foundation/flooring and roof, doing this you could easily argue that your CQB area is simply arranged fencing. also never charge anyone as that opens up a whol can of worms. alos in response to Kalama's post, you really should have structural reinforment of some kind, based on wind/rain/snow in the area, how long you plan on keeping each setup and such.....
.....i know i am kind of crapping on your dream in a way and i am sorry, but my job is to make sure that when someone has those dreams they adhere to the guidelines set in their ara so they can live that dream out.....i have thought about doing this as well as i live well out of town and wouldn't be affected by building codes. hope that helps a little

im a carpenters mate. as long as it isnt a permanent structure your fine. your building temporary walls so if any inspector comes in take it down. there is nothing against building a deck, or anything for that matter if it is not either a connected to a house or structure with a concrete foundation or b is not elevated above 3-4 feet. heres my suggestion.
take 4x8' sheets of plywood, and hinge them together in segments of three. this way they can fold up for storage and you can remake hallways and such anyway you want because its modular. simply hinge them into any building shape you want with a few of these, cut windows or even fold up mock furnature to them that opens along with the sheets of ply. by the cheapest 1/2 inch or thicker you can find, if its full of knots and stuff who cares your not looking for pretty your looking for cheap.
if you are building a floor or anything up to code just remember these words "16 on center" lol
