SRC M16A3 not firing
« on: March 22, 2006, 12:21:46 AM »

Heres what happend. After firing a few rounds, which shot nicely, in my M16 that just came in today in excitement, my M16 couldn't cycle another round. I was firing in semi and let go of the trigger before it could cycle a whole shot, switched to full and squeezed, nothing. The only audible sound is a click probably from the motor trying to cycle, my assumption was that something was holding the gears. After several hours of taking down the gun and inspecting the gearbox, I noticed that the piston was fully compressed and the sector gear was about halfway through. So I put the gearbox and the gun together and tried firing again, nothing. This time I'm suspecting that its the battery. I wired up a mini battery (with a large connector) to the M16 and it still couldn't cycle, but I'm guessing this battery is low because I havn't charged it for weeks and used it a few times. I pulled out my multimeter and checked my large battery's voltage and noticed it was at 7.6-7.7v so I figured I just needed to charge it. Right now I'm charging the battery and hoping that its just a low battery.

For my problem I'm just asking for leads on what could be stopping the motor from moving. It doesn't make a whirring sound and I also inspected the gaers itself so I'm sure they are fine.

It's all power -- it's having to push against nearly three times the starting resistance, so make sure the battery is good and charged.

If need be, expose the wiring, and run it off a 6V lantern battery or two -- but that' only if your battery has given out.

Thanks. I tried out the battery after charging it and it worked perfectly fine.

Edit: Ok... I tried it again and the gun fired a few rounds then wouldn't fully discharge the gun, the battery was also fully charged. I took apart the gearbox again to bring the spring back to it's resting state as I don't want my gun to be fully cocked. Everything was in order again. After trying again it wouldn't shoot again, then I smelled burnt plastic so when I removed the battery I noticed that the battery itself got hot enough to melt the plastic heatshrink. I'm thinking it is the horrible battery, Golden Power (it was only $10 anyway), and it couldn't handle an airsoft gun's discharge rate so it got hot, either that or its because the motor wouldn't turn making the battery heat up. So I want to see what you guys think of these batteries or help me out on my problem.

I wouldn't mind if you guys also recommended me some great high discharge rate batteries.

I've had this problem with my v1 SRC M4 ever since I got it in October.  I sent it to JungleToy HQ (where I got it from) and they only made my gun shoot worse.  It's been in the walk-in JungleToy near me since December.  The manager of JT says it was the battery that was causing the problem, because it was really crappy.  However, the gun is having more problems, so I would suggest that if you ever get the gun working, sell it as quick as you can and buy a Marui.  SRC's been known for nothing but problems, or at least around where I live.  :(

Sorry to hear that bro, I do repairs and upgrades and now work @ JT.  I know the version 1 and 2 had some issues, one being the very weak sector gear.  Which the sector gear being the main reason it kept braking, replacing it with CA gears(new version gears all fit) will rid your probs.  But the new Full-Metals and the special edition m4a1 are pretty decent.  So far none has come back, compared to the v1 and v2 where we would atleast once every week.  Since you opened ur gun, you may have voided your warranty.  But the try and see if you can just get a new one.  The new SRC's have TM rated stock springs and even a weak battery should be able to pull it.  Either you have a lemon or a bad batt.

My SR4 (I think the first version that came out) had issues, besides that airsplat ripped me off. Anyways, after investing in a new TM EG1000, a Systema M100, and a mini 9.6v 1100mah battery, it works like a charm.

Since the SRC's come upgraded to 300+ fps, you should try a 9.6v if you haven't done so.

Also if you gun locks up and the piston is pushed back, try to release the tension in the anti-reversal latch. It sure beats opening up and putting the gearbox back together, again and again and again and so on.

I really should try a 9.6v battery or a new motor. What I really need now is a new handle, I stripped the threads where it holds the screw for the motor baseplate, and either a good 8.4v or 9.6v battery.
