In the process of turning a jg svd into a full metal and wood RPK 74. ill add some discriptions of what Im doing later today, but its shaping up REALLY nicley

The external portion of the gun is now about 90% complete, minus a few cosmetic pieces and the grip, which still hasnt left Hong Kong, it is ready to roll. It feel suprisingly SOLID, I like how it feels over my friends guarder RPK74.
I still need to put together the Hop-up and upgrade the mechbox, so internally its still pretty far from completion.

Parts List:
Base: JG SVD

External:
Element AK74 body
G&P metal front end
Chine RPK wood
RS AKM Flash hider
G&P Plum AK-74 mags
Star Drum Mag
Bushnell Holosight (I know I know but for scrims a holopoint is badass)

Internal
Element 300% FTK
PDI 170% spring
AK bore up
650mm Madbull black python 6.03 TB
PROWIN CnC ak hop-up chamber
Guarder rubber
CA high silicone wiring

Minwax- Red Mahogany wood stain
Minwax- Satin polyurithaine
Krylon ultra flat black

Stuff that still needs to arive:
Element AK-74 grip

Stuff i still need to order:
Soft Firefly bucking
RPK Rear sight
RPK cleaning Rod
RPK cleaning rod holder
Battery
Inokatsu Bolt

JG SVD shown next to Cyma AK74

The gastube nomally rests on the barrel about 2/3 of the way up the barrel where it changes thickness, my first of many challanges.

4 dremel drum bits, and about 2 hours later it is ready to be fitted

voila

Here is a pic of the wood as soon as I got it out of the box, i thought the color looked like ass, and the finish was to plasticy, but it was solid and well shaped, got a steal on it too off ebay ($25 + shipping)

Action shot of me getting my sand on

3 coats of minwax red mahogany later it started to look like I wanted it, It was at this point I realized a 47 grip wont fit on a 74 body, so I placed my order for a 74 grip from RSOV

The metal body arrived from gunner, time to paint

G&P front end installed. Looks and feels solid but was a P.I.T.A.

Fitted a TM stock tang complements of my amigo Kilroy, stock fits perfect, Starting to Look like a gun.... Grin

started on the gearbox modification. some notible problems that arose revolved around having to drill bigger holes in the bore up cylinder, having the element tappet plate be too large and sieze the gearbox, and now, having to sand down the front of the GB to fit the prowin hop-up.

PICS coming 2nyyte

looks very nice, the real wood adds to the east block style not always captured by plastic and resin airsoft guns.

PDI 170% spring

One thing: you may want to use a hard type firefly bucking, instead of the soft variant.

ok, are you making a support weapon or a DMR?! this thing should KATN in a way miles away from Dickie Marcinko which is far better than almost anyone who plays airsoft can do....

to answer the question as to the role of the gun, I plan on carring my mid caps loaded with .28g KSC's and the drum filled with .2's or .25 so depending on what type of senario i get myself in I will be able to fufill different roles. its more than suited to fufill a DMR but also based on the needs of the squad/team ill be allowed to use a drum mag and provide alot of supressive fire aswell.

H-hop nubs are on the way. ordered them from poweredge

before

after

these element parts feel VERY high qualit, especially the gears.

How long will your new barrel be? That Type Zero cylinder is a very nice thing to have in a V.3 GB. I use mine with a stock AK length barrel with great results.

Oh, and you will love that Big Out "H" nubbin. It's amazing the difference it makes.
