Gun shield for an M4
« on: November 13, 2007, 01:00:46 PM »

its a custom shield that mounts to the forward RIS, i made it out of a piece of sheet metal but the new ones will be plexi glass so you can see through them.

here is a pic.

WHY?
I don't see the use for it.
Gunsheilds are designed for fixed support weapons to protect a gunner that can't move around at all.

yea but it also works when you are defending a base with little cover, or when you are in the prone position.

trust me its been tested and it works great.

Heh, it has kind of a psycholigcal effect. I didn't look at the topic title and I thought there was a much nastier gun behind that shield (like a SAW or something).

i dont like it much. i would find it very annoying if some one was doing that at my field and i consider it to be cheap. the ones people have on massive machine guns that are real steal probaly way tones.

hey i saw it on a pic of Army of Two for the 360 so i figured i would see if it would serve any use in airsoft since no one has made one yet that i know of.

its more for the look cool factor but it does work.

Army of two was the first thing to hit my mind when I saw it.  Unless you had a mounted weapon though this is a bit "cheap" for airsoft.

Yeah, it's definitely cheap.  If you want some sort of shield, at least use a full size swat shield so it takes some work to lug it around.

I like it. Props for uniqeness. I'd se if you could add a bipod behind the shield, to really make it a viable  emplaceable weapon.

^^

I would agree IF he was using any sort of support gun.  M249, M60, even an RPK would be an improvement.

i like it if it was on a support weapon, but i think it should also have a bi-pod and be collapsable  ;D

but thats just me  ;)

Your shield seems kind of small, but there would be nothing better than laying prone putting down fire and listening to the bbs hitting your shield the pings. With only a little tiny area to hit you.

yeah, a plexi glass one seems kinda cheap to me, the normal one is bending rules of my games, but the plexi glass is a bit too cheap for me.  :P

Interesting concept...something industries have tried before, with limited success.
Here's an actual product that was displayed at ShotShow in Vegas.

But with a shield as large as yours, you might as well slap on a bipod/gripod and go prone with it, lol.

I wouldn't want just a regular rifleman to use that if I were playing, it would be kind of unfair.  I wouldn't want to have that when I was playing, but if you can make it so that it fits onto most machine guns, that'd be cool.  Make sure you get Souske to paint them for you  ;D

That would be awsome to have during an attack and defend match! Looks very well made, though i wouldnt use it as a regular rifleman, too clumbersome.

looks very nice, reminds me in those movies. actually thought of why ppl weren't doing this more often to their support guns.

I'd say, it would be a nice challenge to have a support gunner have a shield infront to protect them.

Unless you get a gun that can shoot though the shield...gives a whole new meaning to armor-piercing.

my goal was to use this for saw gunners in stationary positions but all i had was an m4 so i had to use it to make the prototype, i only used it to defend a base not to move around the field with.

Looks wise: Very nice, definately a cool idea
Practicality: looks a bit cumbersome for a M4, but heck I use a DMR length weapon for CQC
Fairness: What about it? That's perfectly fine IMO, if it ticks you off play a match against him and be sure to hunt em down.
Nyax: Throw on a slightly longer barrel, a drum mag, and a bipod and there ya go

thats not abad idea maybe when i get a second gun i will convert this in to a support gun.

as for the fairness the pic makes the shield look bigger than it really is the dimentions are only 12'' width by 14'' high so there is alot of me to shoot still. the only time there is a problem is when im prone.

maybe if you were going to use it as a stationary gun, or mounted on something...

but it seems a little unnecessary
