That seems rather cheap to me. If it was real, it wouldn't stop anything. Or, if it was thick enough to actually stop a bullet, it would probably be way too heavy to keep carrying around. Regardless of how you use it, I'm sure if you sold them, people would carry the thing around. And then what's to stop people from cutting a tiny hole in a box or wearing Halo-style armor and wearing it so nobody can hit them? I wouldn't allow it unless it's mounted on a vehicle or in a base or something like that.

I think it would be great when your prone and get a bipod for it. but I would make it something that you can take off fairly easy so when you need to get on the run you can pop it off and if you have any kind of rig, figure out how to hook it on or even attatch some molle straps to the back of it so when you take it off you can pop it on to your vest

The technical term is chicken plate for the "shield"

i thought that the quote meant something more along the more sarcastic lines of, "life's not even sometimes, deal with it."

and while i agree that war isn't ever fair, this isn't really war, it's a game, as realistic as it is. and whenever you try to play a game without rules, it never works.

meh... i guess it would work.... but you still are exposed(legs, head, torso, and part of your chest) i think you have a less chance of getting hit with out the shield than with it... because you can move faster, its lighter and easier to maneuver

I would say that if you play a game with bunkers with gun emplacements, then ok, but for just trudging around in the woods, well, thats cheap...although, that gave me an idea...make it out of all clear plexiglass so the opponent cant see it  :P

Well this is a conversation I've dreaded. I play paintball and airsoft for years now and I love both, but when people do things like this it shows how gay people can be sometimes in airsoft. In paintball you can hardly get away with a chest rig where I play. Just don't do a gun shield it's stupid, heavy, and it makes you look like a scared little baby.

I say it is a bit on the unpractical side, as long as you don't really move around. I think it will be pretty funny when you are hiding behind your shield, and you get assaulted from behind. Good luck swinging that thing around. Just learn to use better cover.

bottom line, not practical unless used on a fixed gun emplacement/vehicle mounted weapon.

can this thread be done now?

yes please,

A guy posts, showing off his work and gets called a chicken, nice! (not)
maybe it's impractical, maybe it's not.
Airsoft is a milsim though, and as shown earlier in the thread they do exist. And taking a guess at what they are made of can probably stop SOME small arms fire.

The only thing holding him back from using it is field rules. Nothing more nothing less. If you feel that angry about it meet at a match and hunt him down and settle it properly.
Personally I look forward to the challenge.

I fail to see how this is "cheap".  This doesnt take away from milsim at all...real battles are always cheap, armies from around the world are always coming up with new ways to win...most of them are down right immoral and make you want to puke, but all are cheap.  Biological, chemical, IEDs, children with weapons...that list goes on and on.  Never is it fair in war.  As far as airsoft...if someone was to use this where I play...I'd just adapt and find new ways to take him out.
Do real soldiers carry weapon-mounted shields that absorb nearly infinite amounts of small-arms direct hits from weapons up to caliber 40mm?

I think the shield is a cool thing to have, but IMO, it doesn't look that good the way you have it.  I think you should change that paintjob on the shield and make it a better camo or a flat black (it'd be cooler with drybrushing if you could).  And also, get a better gun if you're gonna have a shield like that (get a SAW).

as i have stated earlier in this topic this is not something i use on the field, i only made it to see if it could be done. and i agree that it is better made for a saw or stationary gun but all i have is an m4. as for the haters on here i am no where near being a chicken on the field i take my shots like everyone else even inside of the so called no shoot distance of 10 feet. so before you try to calling me out on something come down here to FL for a game and then you can judge me.

Don't get me wrong. I like the idea (and am frankly surprised it hasn't been done before). It's just that suggesting it's milsim, as some have done, is stretching it a bit.

no i would never say this is milsim if i was ever to use it, it would only be for small skirmishes that dont mean anything.

darn your way to far away from me lol
I'd find it a great challenge in a proper match to take you down.

k30dxedle: check out the first page there's some pics of a real steel M4 with a small (note very small) shield mounted on it.

Hmmm...does 30 pounds of body armor count? Does armor plated hummers count? And even if a gun shield could stop a 40mm the person holding the weapon would be blow off their feet.

This is getting way out of hand in my opinion. Guy makes a thread to show off his work and gets crap because its not milsim. Maybe its impractical to run around with, but in one of our attack and defend wars that ends up being 3 on 10 I would love to have this thing on a fixed position. I think it would accually be fun with this thing on the other team. It would make one hell of a challenge to take out the guy using it.

No, no, no. You got to plate it with mirrors so you can reflect sunlight into your opponents eyes so he cant see the shield or you!

P.S. How did you mount it on the gun?

I would never use it in a game in fear of being shot with real bullets.

Haha you guys callen it cheap reminds me of a game last weak. The guy thought because he had a helmet any hits on his helmet didnt count and he was still in. After the game we looked at the helmet and counted 20 "indentations" from one 5 minute game. It was so funny....and the guy thought he was being fair. personaly i believe this creation is really cool, but honestly it seems liek it would be just a waste----and a tad unfair unless a SAW was using it.    u def. wont make friends using it in a game where i play too   ;)

Indeed... a helmet doesnt stop a rifle round. Have you ever seen any of the videos of rounds hitting kevlar helmets? Even the round used by the MP7 (cant remember what its called) goes straight through both sides.

Yea i know it was rather funny, i was even using an mp7 lol. He did this for like three games, and me and my friend with his saw just laid into him....but he never got out. Finally we confronted him and his response was, "well thats why i bought the helmet". Later he said that he hasnt realy ever played with anyone but friends. Anyhoo i dont think the chicken plate would be fair if it was seethrough but thts just my personal oppinion.
