Kriss Super Vâ„¢ submachine gun is an interesting experimental weapon which is currently (spring 2007) under advanced stages of development. The name Kriss comes from Indonesian sword or large knife with flame-like blade. This weapon is intended to provide operators with improved control over accuracy and bullet dispersion, in both semi-automatic and full automatic modes, while firing hard-hitting .45 ACP ammunition. The overall design also permits the Kriss to be fired single-handedly when required by tactical situations and with adequate accuracy. To achieve those goals, Kriss Super Vâ„¢ submachine gun employs three basic solutions. First is to place the axis of the recoil force in line with the firing hand, thus minimizing the muzzle climbing. Such system was previously employed in Olympic-class small-bore pistol developed in Russia and was subsequently banned from international ISU competitions because of extremely high accuracy, which made completion "unfair". The second solution is probably more novel, as it uses a laterally moving weight, attached to the breechblock (bolt), to divert recoil forces to the bottom direction. The third solution is actually a part of the second system, and it employs a variable-angle track in the weight, which puts a breechblock at a mechanical disadvantage during earlier stages of recoil, thus slowing down the movement of the bolt while pressure in the barrel is still high. As a result of these measures, Kriss Super Vâ„¢ submachine gun has significantly less muzzle climb when compared to most modern submachine guns. This results in better accuracy and better grouping of hits on target, providing operators with greater lethality during short-range and short-time encounters.

blah blah blah.................I just think it looks cool,
 so let's build one ;D

Now keep in mind here, I wasn't going for a 100% copy. I took a few design features from the different Kriss prototypes and concept renderings. Some parts I changed to make the build easier, some for looks, some for function. Also, this is built nearly completely from spare parts.

Well the first thing I did was to hack up a Cyma CM.030 into what you see here.

Inner barrel is an ICS MP5 stocker modded to fit the AEP hop unit. It will be shortened a bit later on.

Next I began work on the frame. I used a 1" square aluminum tube as the "backbone" of the gun.
I used the pistol grip from a HFC L85 springer...

...with a piece from a G36 rail bonded to it <--"welded" with a soldering iron like usual. The look is wrong, but it works well.
Also shown is the rough cut trigger.

Smoothed the trigger and made the mount for the grip...

...sits inside like so...

^ I later filled in around the aluminum block with plastic and epoxy.

Started the mounting of the Glock...

Sheet metal was pilfered from an innocent CD-Rom drive :P

Starting to get the general layout here. This is a good time to note that I
stretched the dimensions a bit here, a tad over 5/8".

 On to the outer barrel...

The barrel is the extension from a JLS Scar. A 14mm+ mock silencer adapter holds
it to the square tube.

...set into the Glock frame. Had to be careful to get it level

4 allen screws hold the barrel assembly to the
bracket. 2 screws run through the bottom of the Glock frame, through the
bracket into the rail.

Moving on to the charging handle and ejection port...

After hacksawing, grinding, and filing the trigger, grip mount and first version charging handle slider, I got a new toy - A bandsaw! - made things much much much easier. :)

 Additional framework...

 Added a trigger guard, from a G36

 more plastic work....

Here is how the rear of the Glock is held.....

Rough cut the upper body panels...

...ABS sheets were only 12"x7", so I came up a bit short.

 On to the vert grip....

I intentionally enlarged the front area, to house a momentary switch in the future.

Next I "welded" up the upper body and smoothed...

Rough cut the lower body panels...

starting to resemble a Kriss now, yay!

 Heatforming the lower....

A little lumpy since I didn't perfectly smooth the Glock frame underneath...

...but she cleans up well

Cut the holes for the magcatch...

 ...and these holes....

Capped off the front of the lower receiver, and extended the upper...

...capped off the upper...

...the ring is from a flashlight

 Magcatch work...

^here I basically melted out the hole with the iron, building up a ridge of plastic, which I filed into shape.

I intentionally made the mag release button smaller. No need for it to be so big.

Cut a chunk outa the backbone...

....for these vent holes...

I screwed up a tad here....

...made the gap a bit too large there....oopsie

 Epoxied in the ejection port...

^definitely no hop up access without removing the lower receiver.

 Here's a neat bit...

"SV 2007" SV for Super V, and it just so happens to be my initials...cool
 I used a 1/8" letter/number punch set for this.

You might be wondering at this point, how exactly this thing will work.
I couldn't really come up with a mechanical trigger or select fire system, at least not one that would still allow easy field stripping. So I devised this system.....

Basically I used an Airtronics burst unit, wired as a mosfet, and dialed to a single shot. Disabling the unit gives me full auto. Simple in theory, unfortunately the Airtronics units kinda SUCK. The timing isn't very consistent. I'd get a single shot for 20 shots, then a half cycle, followed by a double tap. I could live with the occasional double cycles, but the misfirings would have to go. I ended up just dialing it up to a 2 shot burst, so now I'll occasionally get a single shot only, usually followed by a 3 round burst. Oh well :( I may try out one of the ProArms burst units in the future to try to cure this.

 Moving on....

 The trigger switch...

Simple and effective. Actually this is the first version of the system. The current setup allows a further trigger pull, also uses a lighter sprung microswitch.

 Random body shots...

....sexy

 Gah! ugly hole!
No worries, it'll be covered by a rail. All part of the master plan :D

 Now on to the stock...

Started with a G36 stock, chopped and heatformed into what you see here....

 welded her up...

The center strip is partially filled with epoxy. I had initially used some crappy epoxy. I later went over it with the good stuff which smoothed it out.

The buttplate was too long for my liking, so I changed it a bit...

 This will become the catch...

 Trimmed and shaped the catch........

........and burried it under molten plastic

Also added an additional ring to the top...

 On to the hinge....

Also note the swiss cheesed trigger ^

 Onward to the spring latch...

...It pivots on a pin at the front, sprung at the rear, a tiny grub screw keeps it from moving out too far...

It took some time to get right, but it works great, locks solid.

 On to the bolt catch....

...lots of grinding and filing...

...the white piece is cut out of nylon...

...screwed on from the inside

 Welded on the shroud...

 oooh spring action!

Here is the plate for the bottom...

The little bracket on the left presses against the plastic channel on the back of the Glock, holding the lower receiver in place.

On to the selector switch system.
Roller microswitch set into the frame...

^That's the v.2 trigger setup BTW.

...selector turns and presses the switch.....easy!

I chose to use G36 selector switches because....well, I had them :) They look similar enough for me.

 Now the safety.....

Attached an aluminum piece to the trigger assembly...

...switch turns, blocks trigger....simple!

...shown in fire mode
Also note the attached button for the stock latch.

Next the hook to hold the stock in its folded position...

 cut out of nylon

...and attached...

Epoxied on some rings around the body screws...

...cut from a LPEG barrel extension.

 Atached the side rails...

Front screws go into the barrel block thingy. The rear screws both go into a threaded tube.

Epoxied on rings around the smaller screws...

...cut from a Bic pen. I'm so thrifty :D

 Overview

Well this is the point where I stalled. It took me a while to find a suitable rail for the top. I finally found this guy http://stores.ebay.com/EGW1_Scope-mounts-Rifle_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ7QQftidZ2QQtZkm that sells 16" length picatinny rails. Only problem is they are too tall. So I handed it over to my buddys' father to machine down. He said he'll get to it early next week. So until then, this is where we're at.
If I ever get my propane tank filled, so I can heat my garage, I'll paint it. I'm doing the tan & black like the RS pics, except the strip between the lower receiver and pistol grip will be black.
 Like so..............

 Edited image

I also have a sheet of Pac-skin http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/73359-5210-1099.html self-adhesive rubber, which I'll use for the textured insets on the sides of the magwell, also pieces on the front of the magwell and the sides of the pistol grip.
Also a set of MP7 flip sights and a Eotech 551 clone to finish it off. <-I'll try my 552 clone as well.

 input?

Good job, epyon.  It's nice to see something original, most people just stick to modding M4's and AK's, but you have a talent for the unusual.

I've been working on it for about 5 weeks on & off. I was gonna wait until it was all finished to post, but with the rail difficulties, I didn't feel like waiting any longer. Plus, the rate it's going, I'd have to change the serial number to 'SV 2008' ;D

Yeah, I should probably add a 56k warning to the title

The Kriss was originally developed by TDI & Magpul just to showcase the Super V system. Apparently there has been some interest in it as-is though.

 Thanks everybody

As Larry from Chuck and Larry said..."Holy Shamu."

Awesome work, that has to be one of the most amazing custom gun jobs I've ever seen (besides those from Candyman :D). I've always wanted to make the KRISS, but I'm too busy making Halo BR. Wonderful job Epyon, you never end to impress!

This is amazing! CM.030 mods for the win!

You're going to have to cram the thing full of nineball upgrades so it looks as good as it shoots.

It's all stock innards right now. I'm gonna pilfer all the Nineball goodies from my Jieke M93r for it. Will also be getting a Dee's tightbore for it. I have a Elite 1500mah 9.6v for it. The trigger response is great, sounds like a proper AEG. ROF is around 20rps, mags seem to keep up fine.
The range is good with the extended barrel, probably upped the FPS a tad too.

My original intent with this project was to push an AEP gb to the limit. I may even pick up a RC motor for it.

oh and where do you get your plastic sheets, and what epoxies did you use for this?

I buy most my materials from http://www.towerhobbies.com/
 I used Plastruct .08" & .06" ABs sheets
I used a few different Epoxies, Permetex 5 min., Loctite professional 5 min., also used Permetex plasticweld - the stuff in the syringe - It SUCKS!

I don't usually give two hoots about the customs on here, but you deserve major respect for that project.

One suggestion: the 'cutout' over the mag area is actually a non-skid strip, like grip tape. ;)
