This thread is now just for questions/comments about the ICS M4 Beginners Guide.  The guide itself has been moved to a separate thread for logistical reasons.  View the current ICS M4 guide here.

Nice guide. After reading through it, I agree with every point.

One thing you might want to add: the stock bucking is total and utter crap. It seems fine for the first few hundred rounds - then it goes awry. On my '07 model that's what happened. Drop in a systema and you're good to go.

Wow, that was a full and well done guide. Keep up the work! I'm looking into getting the ICS Pistol, but I may buy a 416 kit, do you think i'll run into compatibility issues with the gearbox fitting into other recievers?

Edit: Aw, crap I just read it, the gearbox has problems with TM Recievers. Damn.

Does anyone have an idea of how much internal upgrade was done to the C-15 i bought because well, I'm not too familiar with AEGs since I've never owned one before this. What I do know is that the seller told me 11.1v lipo batteries will work fine, as he included one for the gun, and that if I wanted to upgrade to a 150 spring i would just have to replace the spring. Is it possible to approximate the parts which were upgraded? I asked once but i only caught a few things including i think the gear and the spring to a 130, but since I'm not too familiar with the Chinese airsoft terminology i didn't quite get the rest of what he said. The logo on my C-15 is a horse... which means its a colt right? Does that mean i wouldn't have to worry about my gearbox being the crappy one?

oh and this topic is really a godsend!

I was pondering if I should mention that.  I know some people have that problem, but others do not.  So far I have had no issues with the bucking in my '07 pistol.  Thanks for bringing it up though, I may add that later.

Yes, the early '06 and previous models has piss poor wiring.  That said, I have seen some newer ones that have had wiring issues, so that is still something to keep in mind.  It usually seems to be the full stock models.  They have decent wire up to the fuse box and then crap after that.

We would need information on what has been done to the gun internal before we could make any guess on that.  How much did you pay for this gun?  It seems unlikely that he included a Li-Po battery.

That's the Colt trades on the newer ICS.

That's a good sign, but it's possible the receiver has been replaced.  We really need more information on the internals before we can start speculating.

Thanks for the comments everybody.

oh i see, well i bought it for around um, 330USD if i convert it from NT dollars from a store owner who was going to close his store because he was busy with work, and wouldn't have the time for his shop plus its not as lucrative as his full time job. yea he did include a lipo battery and the charger. He said something about replacing many of the internal parts. Yet he was naming the parts in Chinese so yea... i couldn't really remember what he had said. I guess i will have to call him and ask.

I would, as $330 is an ok price for a new gun.  The battery & charger alone adds another $80+ to it.  It's possible he just giving you a real good deal because he is closing shop, or it's possible he is trying to pull a fast one on you.

6mm, however they seem to be slightly off on some as aftermarket bearings don't always work to well.

NT as in New Taiwanese? I'd say for 330 USD equivalent is a pretty good price, considering ICS are Taiwanese.

very nice, i cannot tell much from the hop up picture though... is it because I'm new at this?
Also, i am eagerly anticipating the section on after market free floating RIS. I found a ff RAS on a Taiwanese site with a price tag of around 120USD, which is almost too good to be true, can anyone give me an opinion on it? I had this info on my C-15 question thread but since i edited my last post to include the info no one read it ><

I just purchased the M4 Para Anniversary Edition from Airsoft GI for Christmas. It is my first ICS gun so I hope its good, and from what I've heard, they are good guns. I love the whole split gearbox idea, it makes it much easier for spring changes. I won't be able to use the gun until Christmas, but I can't wait to crack open the box.

BTW nice guide. If I need help I'll definitely look at it, but I'm hoping my gun will last me at least 10,000 rounds before it needs repairs.

Oh its an ICS. It will last you more along the lines of 100,000 rounds if you know how to take care of it and do proper maintance and you keep a good battery with it and keep it way from the elements.

Yeah, it should easily last more than 10,000 rounds as long as you take care of it.  I would however still recommend have an experienced tech give the shimming a once over just to be safe.

Congrats on your purchase though, and welcome to the club.   Grin

for after market hop up units, which part are we supposed to file down? Although I'm not going to change my hop up, its still good to know more about it. I also hope the section on after market free floating RAS will be updated soon! As I have my eyes set on a GB-tech SR-15 match5 front end.

The feeding tube is facing to your right if you are looking at this pic, on the front, on your left side is a block with another piece of metal heading towards the top of the hopup, it just needs to be shaved off enough so it can fit in the reciever.

Ah i see, thanks.

Does anyone have any information on Pro-Arms 240rds mid-cap? I cannot find any relevant information concerning that magazine. I'm trying to find a good non-rattling magazine, and my options are pretty much limited to G&P mid caps, the one from Pro-Arms or some mags by Unknown Chinese manufacturers since I live in Taiwan. High cap magazines are everywhere while I cannot even find low-caps online... its pretty sad...

MAG Midcaps FTW.

I'm probably going to get myself a new camera for Christmas, if so I am going to retake some of those pictures and see if I can make it clearer what you need to do. Especially the hopup chamber picture.

Heh, I currently have 3 boxes of the black HK marking versions.  They are great for loaners because you aren't out $30 when the person loses them.

Too bad i cant find any Mag mid caps in Taiwan. I cant even find many mid caps, and I've seen no signs of low cap mags period. So you all own MAG mags? does anyone have any info on pro-arms? i don't see many discussions about them online. I'm hoping to give my ICS C-15 a makeover on Christmas Smiley
