Airsoft Retreat Forum membership rules:
First off, the central point of these rules is to maintain a functional discussion environment. Normal standards of public discourse and social interaction are assumed. The specific rules are in place to help clear up what we feel may be ambiguous. However, appropriate actions will be taken against any conduct that is felt to infringe on the basic concept of the free discussion of relevant airsoft issues. The forum is a private forum, so membership is a privilege. Freedom of speech, in all its constitutional splendor, does not apply here, though the administrators and moderators will typically intervene only to impartially keep the peace and order. A certain degree of courteousness is expected. In a nutshell: be good.1. No lewdness or profanity.
This is, after all, an open internet forum so any messages posted will be viewable by an audience of all ages. Posting text or images (or including them in your profile or avatar image) which is deemed unsuitable by the AS-R staff will be removed.2. No "real steel" discussion.
There are plenty of places on the internet to discuss real firearms and other weapons. Given the sensitive nature of airsoft as exact replicas of real world guns, it is clearly politically and socially inadvisable to mix the two, even on an internet discussion board. Analysis of the accuracy of airsoft reproduction of real weapons or speculation or hope for a specific model gun to be reproduced in airsoft form is certainly allowed (by the basic nature of the sport), but topics solely about firearms with no ties to airsoft is off limits.3. No political/religious discussion.
This one's just a can of worms and generally has little airsoft relevance. Many people have very strong and often totally contrasting opinions on a myriad of issues whose discussion may bring discord to an otherwise amiable web community. There was less restriction on these subjects long ago, but it was discontinued when it got out of hand. Again, if you should feel so inclined to discuss politics or religious issues, there are certainly plenty of places to do that on the net.4. No discussion of dangerous or illegal acts.
This one should be pretty obvious. Given the nature of airsoft, there can be many things which can be done that are socially or technically unsafe. Airsoft is based around exact replicas of real weapons that also shoot BBs at high velocity, so a fair degree of responsibility is a requirement.
Included in this rule is the discussion of the use of fireworks, pyrotechnics, gunpowder or similar explosive materials along with instructions and/or links to instructions which outline how to make explosive devices using those materials. It is not acceptable here on AS-R and the particular post or thread will get deleted. This also includes high powered "potato gun' style weapons.
AS-R views the use of fireworks, pyrotechnics, gunpowder and similar explosive materials, as well as some model rockets & smoke bombs, as unsafe for use in conjunction with airsoft (and in many states it also would be illegal) and therefore does not condone their uses. Also. since the majority of airsoft skirmishes take place in areas susceptible to fire, the use of flammable objects, igniting objects & things that pose a fire risk will be viewed in the same way.5. No posting of for-sale items in the forums.
ASR has an active Classifieds section available (by the link at the top of the page or in the main site menu) where items for sale or desired should be listed. This rule applies also to commercial retailers.6. Try to avoid double posting and excessive bumping.
Please restrict a single topic to one forum area only. That is, do not post a question about gearbox repair in both the technical problem solving and AEG forums.7. Post your comments in English.
If a moderator or administrator can not understand what you are saying, than there will be a good chance it will be deleted. We will not risk allowing a breaking of the rules & guidelines if someone is posting in a language we do not understand.8. INFLAMMATORY POSTS- FLAMES:
Insults, derogatory remarks, threats, antagonistic remarks, name-calling, demeaning comments, personal attacks, etc. is unacceptable and will be dealt with by mods & admin accordingly.Any member who is found to have altered or deleted any action which a moderator or administrator has performed will incur harsh disciplinary action. When a moderator or administrator has performed an action on the forums, IT IS AN OFFICIAL RECORD AND WILL NOT BE TAMPERED WITH. This includes but is not limited to:
1. Any edit within a post
2. Any post within a thread.
3. Any thread that has been locked.
Postcounts and rank:
General: 3500 - 5 stars
Colonel: 2000 - 4 stars
Major: 1000 - 3 stars
Captain: 500 - 2 stars
Sergeant: 100 - 1 star
Corporal: 50 - 1 star
Rank is representative of post count only and may not be indicative of a person's knowledge of airsoft. Post whoring to increase post count can result in a reduction of your post count & rank.
We encourage you to explore all areas and sections within this site, as well as familiarizing yourself with the various icon functions and links. As you look into each individual forum, observe the "stickies" listed in the beginning of the listed topics. A "sticky' is a valuable topic which all members can find useful. They will often give information which will answer commonly asked questions, compile review information, gun photos, and often give you a general education of the forum section.
An invaluable tool for every airsofter is the SEARCH FUNCTION - http://www.airsoftretreat.com/forums/index.php?action=search;advanced
A quick search will answer most of your questions. Please use it as it will save yourself and other members much time, as well as preventing other members from flaming you for not searching.
AVOID THESE COMMON MISTAKES WHEN POSTING:VAGUE TOPIC TITLES:
Topic titles need to give enough details so anyone can look at the title and know EXACTLY what the subject is going to be about, or what the SPECIFIC question will be, WITHOUT having to waste potential time to go into the thread to figure this out. In other words there should be no guesswork. Titles like; "I have a question", "Which gun?", "Need help", "Super 9", "Which is better", "MP5?" (and the list goes on) are not acceptable. Typically the whole thread will be deleted if there is a Vague Topic Title.RESTATE YOUR QUESTION FROM THE TITLE IN THE BODY OF THE MESSAGE:
Simple enough. If the question from your title is not restated in the body of your message, the thread may get deleted.DUPLICATE THREADS:
Make only one thread per your subject matter or question. Duplicate threads may result in BOTH
threads being deleted without warning.DOUBLE OR TRIPLE POSTS:
Back to back posts in a thread. Use the edit function to avoid or fix this problem.USELESS POSTS:
Comments that do not contribute substance to a thread: Single word comments, posts that do not need to be said, comments that include insults or flames, etc. Making useless posts or topics is typically considered Post Whoring and will result in a reduction of both rank and post count.REVIVING OLD THREADS - NECROPOSTING:
Always be aware of the date post of the thread before responding. Many old threads are "dead" for a reason (The question has been answered, the author of the thread is no longer interested, the author of the thread is no longer on AS-R, etc). Before you revive an old thread, consider if your post will be a productive one, justifying the revival of the thread. Do not just respond to an old thread with useless remarks that adds nothing to the thread. If you uselessly revive an old topic expect at least a warning from a moderator to not repeat this action.POSTING TITLES AND CONTENT IN ALL CAPS:
It looks like you are yelling, is difficult to read, and is just plain rude. Do it, and your post will "magically vanish".About "s-i-l-e-n-c-e-r" discussion:Are Paintball and/or Airgun Sound mock mock mock mock mock mock mock mock suppressors NFA firearms?
The terms "firearm "s-i-l-e-n-c-e-r"

or firearm muffler, and any part intended only for use in such assembly or fabrication.Numerous paintball and airgun "s-i-l-e-n-c-e-r-s" tested by ATF’s Firearms Technology Branch have been determined to be, by nature of their design and function, firearm "s-i-l-e-n-c-e-r-s".
are NFA weapons, an individual wishing to manufacture or transfer such a "s-i-l-e-n-c-e-r"

Discussion of foam-filled "s-i-l-e-n-c-e-r-s"
is prohibited. Discussion of hollow "MOCK mock mock mock mock mock mock mock mock mock mock silencers", or "barrel extensions" is allowed. Anything that could silence the report of a real firearm by even 1 dB is illegal without a permit and such devices are easy to manufacture for use on airsoft replicas--Easier than you'd think. It is for this reason members are only allowed to discuss empty "can" devices or are encouraged to omit the finer details of their custom-built "mock mock mock mock mock mock mock mock mock mock silencers".
ADMINISTRATIVE ACTION:What happens if you break the rules?
Appropriate action will be taken based on the seriousness of the offense. Should AS-R staff deem it necessary your account could be banned along with any new accounts you attempt to create. Should you decide to not only break forum rules but break laws governing your jurisdiction, criminal offenses can be investigated by reporting actions to your local police department in worst case scenarios.
To reiterate an important point in the ‘Rules and Policies Agreement’; By pressing the "Agree" button, you agree that you, the user, are 13 years of age or over. You are fully responsible for any information or file supplied by this user. You also agree that you will not post any copyrighted material that is not owned by yourself or the owners of these forums. In your use of these forums, you agree that you will not post any information which is vulgar, harassing, hateful, threatening, invading of others privacy, sexually oriented, or violates any laws.
FAILURE TO ADHERE TO THE "USER AGREEMENT" AND ANY RULES & GUIDELINES ON AS-R CAN RESULT IN ADMINISTRATIVE ACTION AGAINST YOUR ACCOUNT. For your information the following are moderator/administrative actions to be aware of:
There is a three strike rule in place on AS-R now that all members should be aware of.
Strike one: This is a warning via email or via private message that you have broken the rules and that it is in your best interest to read up on the rules and heed the warning given to you by a moderator/administrator.
Strike two: Either the warning did not sink in, or there has been a more serious violation that will warrant suspension from the forum. Strike two is a 72 hour ban from AS-R. More serious offenses may bypass the warning stage and the 72 hour ban will serve as your warning.
Strike three: Three strikes and you're out. Just like baseball. Three strikes against an account will result in a permanent ban. On the most serious of offenses you went too far and if you have blantantly violated the User Agreement or any rules, they will be BANNED IMMEDIATELY WITHOUT WARNING.
It is standard procedure on AS-R when pornographic material is posted by a member that that member is immediately banned by an admin. This prevents any continued spamming of such material should the person be so inclined to do so.
Also, duplicate accounts are not permitted. Members creating duplicate accounts are subject to a permanent ban and all accounts tied to the original member will be deleted.
BAN APPEAL: If the member believes they are not responsible for the offense that they were banned for, he/she will need to work outside of this forum (via email to admin) to give reasonable assurance that they are not responsible for the offense.
