Pretty self explanatory.  There is actually a free community gun range in my area.  i was wondering if anybody would/has taken the airsoft replica to a real steel gun range for target practice or testing new mods.  vote up!

Uhm, maybe someone will kick in and say yeah but my initial thoughts are this would be a bad idea.

Why don't you use a tape measure and pie plates in your backyard?  If you don't have a yard with about 100' in the rear, someone you know might.

This is our team's shooting range, we have a guy that set up a permanent range at a total of 125' with incrementing plates at 25', 50', 75', 100', 125'.

My dad (A LEO) would go against it for the "Playing around" with the AS guns, and getting confused with then vs. real guns. They don't mix well.

Well, then again this is a Gun Range. If you really wanted too, you could bring a .177 bb gun to a gun range. I've bring my AEG's there neomorous times

yeah, I did that at a range before

mine did not have an orange tip at the time (back in the day) but the only real problem anybody gave me was one of the employees asking to see Class something paperwork, i guess for 1) being a MP5 and 2) for having a supressor on there...  lol!

I wouldn't, mostly because of how pathetically inaccurate most AS guns are, compared to RS. Plus, the sewing machine sound of AEG's or the little "pop" of a sniper rifle is weak compared to the noise generated by RS.

Anything you can do at a range you can most likely do in your own backyard.

But the range is absolutely neutral. There is no wind or terrain to factor in. It is an excellent environment to test the accuracy of your weapon, or to dial in new components.

Of course actual firearms sound meaner; they are. But that shouldn't stop you from trying to improve your aim and your accuracy. As long as you have a case and don't point it at anyone, there shouldn't be a problem.

But isnt entirly unlike the pop that comes out a supressed weapon. Not the same, but in the same class.

There is no rule against going to the range with your airsoft gun. I sighted in my pellet gun at the range and I dont see why you couldent do so with your airsoft. This is a case where a airsoft range trip would be in order. trying to site your gun in, in your backyard, you realise that you live on a large hill like I do and constantly have 20mph+ winds, often above 30. this makes sighting in IMPOSSIBLE.

Personally, I have a large backyard (I live on about 5 acres), so I wouldn't head out to the range to test my rifle or do anything like that.  Knowing some of the tiny houses and yards around though, I would definitely encourage going to the range for someone who lived in a housing development.  It's far better to test at the range instead of firing at targets across the street and having the risk of injuring/scaring someone.

The only range near me is pay only, so I'd rather set up cardboard boxes in the corner of my room for free.

I wouldn't do this because the local range is a pay one so this would decrease my real firearm shooting time. Plus, I like shooting the real deal so much better than the fake airsoft stuff. I am not saying airsoft guns aren't fun to shoot but they aren't as thrilling as the real ones.

Hmm, maybe I'm coming from a unique (and/or poorly designed) range, but the one where I have gone to is neutral terrain wise, but not wind wise. There is a fair (not huge, but enough) amount of wind, that I feel that a good number of my shots would drift a bit before they got to their target.

EDIT:: If you meant indoor range, I see where you are coming from. The one I go to is outdoors.

But isnt entirly unlike the pop that comes out a supressed weapon. Not the same, but in the same class.

There is no rule against going to the range with your airsoft gun. I sighted in my pellet gun at the range and I dont see why you couldent do so with your airsoft. Of all the times I have been to my range, I have not seen one mock suppressor on any gun. I'm not saying that nobody has a mock suppressor, just that nobody at my range uses one. Plus, if I saw someone pull a rifle out, with no visible mock suppressor, and fire down range, I'd expect to hear some kind of report. Of course, it may be different for you guys, but at my range most people would probably laugh at you.

I'm not saying that you guys can't take a airsoft gun to your RS range, but in my particular case, it would be impractical. But hey, each to his own. (I hope all that made sense.)

I did. Worked pretty slick. And it is much better to sight in on a range INDOOR, no wind at all. Perfect for sighting in rifles. One bad part is that ours is kinda old so the backstop is just an angled piece of steel, so the bb's fly back and me and my bro had to sweep them up, but other than that, pretty cool.

I live in Hawaii. There is a range in Waikiki. If you frequent it you know that airsofters are all over that place. They are great to airsofters there. Then again why pay that much when you can set up targets in the ole back mower track?

hmm i probably wouldn't take my guns to a range. it'd feel awkward to have a military assault rifle in my hand while everyone has civilian weapons..
and it'd be really awkward anyways to bring an airsoft there. Imagine someone bringing a m60 or m249 airsoft.

I'd want to, but the local gun range within city limits doesn't allow it; they claim it's too big a hassle to clean up all the BB's once I'm done 0_0

Why get laughed at going to a range, when you can shoot your AEG just about anywhere. The only reason there are gun ranges, is because people can't shoot RS everywhere. Airsoft does not suffer from this Cheesy

Absolutely. Just treat it like a RS firearm while you're there (don't point it at anyone, muzzle always aimed downrange, etc) and you'll have no problem. Also for RS owners who don't know about airsoft they are more likely to find it interesting than have a problem with it. Furthermore the wind factor is a great reason to take it to a range, even 5mph winds make it near impossible to accurately zero an AS rifle.
