Take the basic shape, make the details fuzzy, and it kind of resembles a tuna....slightly. I've heard the G.I.'s call it a "Fish".

You know Mike, you could probably just pop in the fresh XM8 gearbox into this gun. The BE XM8 uses this gearbox and I wouldn't be too suprised if it fit in with a minimum of modification given that they both use the same gearbox.

Sorry Empty, but the CYMA LPEG uses a BOYs derivative gearbox and the body screws at the grip would have to be removed to provide space for the XM8 gearbox weakening the part that is going to recieve the most stress on the body.
I was thinking of doing the same but have not figured out a way around that problem. The rest should be a matter of removing material and fashioning a hop-up rig to match a standard AEG sized gearbox. That would also require mag mods as the BOYs GB LPEG mods were made for the BOYs type LPEG gearbox dimensions. The BE gearboxes are AEG standard sized gearboxes.
refer to the sized difference of the gearboxes here.
http://www.airsoftretreat.com/forums/index.php?topic=158.0

I understand what you are saying about the 1:1 scale having externally the same dimensions but the size difference of the gearboxes dictate the placement of body screws as well as feed tubes and hop-up heights which must mesh correctly with the gearbox nozzle in order to work properly and not damage the nozzle. The hop-up itself has to accomodate the extra length of the AEG nozzle or you will have a malfunctioning gun with BBs dribbling out of the barrel with no hop.

Ummm, no they don't
The CYMA G36C uses a boys gearbox which is significantly smaller than the BE XM8 gearbox. It woudl take a LOT of modification to make it fit. And putting in an XM8 gearbox was mentioned in the page before this.

EDIT: Sgtwiltan beat me to it

No. I mean that they both use a V3 gearobx in their TM version. Thus, if they were made to the same external specs, it should be easier to interface the new gearbox than the V2.

But this isn't the TM version and even if it were the same external specs as the TM it would not mean that it is any easier to switch gearboxes.

Let my make it clearer. If the gun is made to the same physical specs, it would be easier to fit a V3 gearbox into it than a V2, due to slight design differences.

Afterall, they are different in terms of size, motor positioning, etc.

With a xm8 gearbox, you wouldn't have to do any "motor postioning", just alot of cuting and sanding to get it to fit. You also will have to move the hop-up chamber and use different mags. Just a little clue for all you people out there who have mixed opinions about this topic (putting a xm8 gearbox into a g36c lpeg), I am going to do this. I have already ordered the gearbox from AA, and bought a new hop-up and barrel. I will be posting a guide on how to do this some time by fri. or sat.

I really didn't think anyone would want to tackle this kind of project. Cudo's to you my friend. I was not of the mindset that it can't be done, only that it would be difficult and not worth the effort. So go ahead then...proove me wrong dangit, but don't forget to tell us how to do it also.

I still can't believe you want to do it. It will get you alot of rep around here for that mod. I can imagine the comments on a field too. lol. Shot by CYMA!

I wasn't trying to be negative, lol. I just didn't think it would be worth the effort to convert a CYMA LPEG with n XM8 gearbox. Obviously I am wrong, lol. I hope it works, I really do.

Well, Thanks to d thedj once again, I have G36 number 2 to play with now, and a spare CYMA G36 gearbox to toy with also. Not sure what I'm going to do with this one yet.

I think its great that we have some adveturesome members:-) If it works we can all hang on the (hopefully instructive ) thread and think about doing it ourselves:-)

Pretty surprising that a brand so despised will actually have good internals.

Well and CYMA are getting better, yes, but this rifle as mentioned above is an older model. Not the best for skirmishing at all, but worth modding for sure.

I need paint and a few accessories soon.
