If you mean the screw has a 6-point star for it's head, that's a Torx screw, and you'll need a torx bit to put it in.

Airsoft typically don't use those...so either it was a screw that was added to replace one that was lost, or was dropped in by accident.  Most airsofts use Philips and Allen (hexagon head) screws.

Look around in your gun and see if you can find out where it went, if not, then game on.

As a reference, here's a description of some screw types....it may help you later in life:

security screws will have a post in the middle of the head, so that you need special bits to get them out.

slotted .. it's just a slot
tamper-proof slotted .. slotted but it has ramped cuts in one direction so that you cannot unscrew it without great difficulty, usually public restroom stalls use these.
philips .. looks like a plus sign
allen .. hexagon
Torx .. 6-point star
Nintendo .. 3-point version of philps, think a mercedes-benz emblem  I don't know the right name, but Nintendo was the first company to use these widely.
robertson .. square hole

Well like i said, it certainly didn't look like it belonged anywhere in there. That is the first time I've seen a torx screw in person.

I shot it again like crazy today. Fires like a champ. Love this thing. I ordered a TM SOCOM Springer as a partner!

Actually they do use Torx on their gearboxes... *digging in toolbox* ahh a size 10 to be exact. At least the ver. 2 that was on my Sr-16 did. The only place it would go is on the gearbox shell or the motor cage (not sure about the cage). Look all the way around the perimeter of the gearbox to see if there is an empty hole. Also if memory serves me correctly the Torx are placed along the top of the gearbox shell. You should check for inconsistency.

I would not use crossman bb's in your gun. Despite saying "premium" they are all but that. I would recommend excel or airsoft elite bb's I've had very good experience with both. Although this may be outdated I found this article on Airsoftmechanics.com to be very informative. It shows a series of graphs relating to the performance of bbs manufacturers. They have a lot of very well done articles and I would recommend any for a good read.

I'll check it again. I have a version 3 gearbox in my PDW. I have a bag of excels, and I looked very closely at both the crossman and excel side by side, and I truly could not tell the difference. The crossmans are made in taiwan and my thinking was that they came from the same factory. They are both shiny and have a smooth seemless finish. I have not had a jam yet. The .12s may be a different story, but the .20 are working very well. I'll compare those with the TM BBs being shipped with my SOCOM spring pistol that shold be here soon.

I could have sworn I saw phillips head screws on the gearbox case. I'll check it again.

...but I was wrong! I found where that little rascal came from too. So I screwed it back in and used threadlock. So now it's never coming out again. Good call Xicutioner!

You should take a look at that article. The differences are so small they're not visible to the human eye. Now, with a REALLY crappy bb you can see injection holes and seam lines but a lot of it you can't see. We're talking about hundredths of a millimeter here. Eyeballing it really doesn't cut it. I don't mean to come off harsh, but your really going to have to trust me. The bbs will "work" but they won't work well. Your robbing yourself of performance. Also if you plan on upgrading the barrel to a tightbore (which I highly recommend) those bb's will jam like crazy. I had a buddy recommend these cheap bbs from a local sporting goods store and they seemed okay but they seriously messed up my barrel in my M4. In short, buying cheap bb's is like using low octane gas in your exotic sports car. You just don't do it.

In any case, have fun with your new gun!

Interesting... I just ripped through a mag of the excels. They actually did seem a little more accurate, but I can see seem lines on those bbs where on the crossmans they look solid. I don't know if I can get a tight bore short enough for the PDW/K (I don't want to use a mock silencer to hide a longer barrel) but if I can I'd like to go to one. I surely don;t wanna f up my barrell but the crossmans shoot great for now.

I've read that article a few times before actually. Those crossman .20s weren;t in the comparo. However I'd be shocked if they weren't just rebrands of a well known brand. They did that with their MP5 right?

Actually I'm lookin at these "excel" bbs and there is no way these are actually excels. First of all, upon close inspection they look like crap. Second, I was actually paying attention and they are over hopping like crazy, so they arent even .20s. I got these sent with the gun.  Honestly the crossmans are working fine but once I finish them I'll have to order something different.

I have an un-opened bag of UHC bbs.... those trash too?

Dont double post, you can get in trouble. Edit your last post instead. =)

If you dont have a tightbore there is no need to discard lousy BBs. I have a *bucket* of cheap as free .12 bbs a friend didn't want. I load those up into my high caps in cqc games and go to town. Why wouldn't I? I have like 50,000 of the things. Sure they dont shoot very accurate...but a human is an easy target in close quarters.

If you have/ever get a tightbore dont shoot low quality BBs. They will jam.

I think there are several brands that sell tightbores for your model but I wouldn't spend the money. Your gun has a really short barrel and will always be less accurate then longer barreled guns.

You very well might have been lied to about the BB's. You say you got them 2ed hand from the person who sold you the gun? Did you still get a good deal? If yes, forget about it. If you paid good moneys for the "excells" raise a stink about it.

The BBs that come with guns are often of the most inferior quality. LPEGs sometimes come with BBs that are so mishapen they are not even round.
