Future JG AUG purchase, need help on what to get?
« on: January 28, 2009, 08:57:39 PM »

Hey everyone, I know this is my first post on this forum but I'm also coming from Airsoft Forum which seems to be having a lot of server issues lately, or at least I'm having trouble accessing it. So anyways I've decided to start posting here as well!

Well I've decided that it's time for a new gun, because I've been less than satisfyed with my current gun. I've been playing for about a year now, and I've been taking note on how I play and what kind of guns will suit me. I've decided that an AUG would probably be my best bet. I'm a lefty and this gun has absolutely no distinction between left and right (mag release, no fire selector). It also is a more compact gun (for the barrel size) which is good because I do a ton of running, being more the front guy, and it's got a long barrel which is good because I rely on accuracy to take out my opponent before they take out me.

So I don't have a set budget, but I'd like to keep it reasonable, as I'll be saving my paychecks until I can buy it, and I'd like to buy it sooner than later.

I'm a little confused as to what the fps is, because I hear a lot of people saying it shoots around 350, but the description on asgi says it shoots 280. Well if someone could help me out there, that would be great.

Anyways, here's my list of things I'll buy. I've focused mostly on making it really really accurate. Is there anything I could buy/change here that will achieve this goal?

Gun:
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=2195

Metal Hopup Unit (not sure why it helps, but people say it'll help with accuracy?):
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=31_170&products_id=4251

Barrel (are there any better barrels?):
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=31_55&products_id=1585

Hopup (any better hopups?)
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=4693

BB's (i've had good luck with KSC's)
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=405

Scope (seems like a good one)
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=36_117&products_id=3994

So there's my future purchase, anything that you guys would change/add on?

Oh should I upgrade the fps at all? It says it shoots 280 and people say it shoots 350 so I'm not sure, I'll also be using .25g bb's, so will 350 be enough?

Thanks!

Everything looks good except the hop up rubber, I think Systema is better than Promy.

BTW, the scope is total overkill, but it'll work.

Promy > Systema any day in my book.  FireFly = Promy w/ H-nub

You can get a better barrel, but the question is do you want to drop $100+ on it?  The promy will do you well though.

Metal hop-up units have less flex than plastic ones and are more consistent because of it.

I also suggest a cylinder compression upgrade.  Find a Modify/Guarder/Echo 1 cylinder kit; for the price it gives you great overall compression.

The JG AUG stock is around 330 fps w/ .2g.  With the tight bore and compression upgrades, you can see around 350 fps which is right where I like to be.  I would also recommend metal bushings and a metal spring guide as well as a 9.6v battery.

If you want to save some money, WeaponBlender has the JG AUG for only $105.

Make sure that the JG gun you buy is one of the latest versions. Confirm that it is a 2008 model. Some of the latest JG guns have better wiring, a black reinforced gearbox, and some even have a MOSFET!

The barrel is great, I do not know if it is the right length, but that brand is one of the best. PDI is the best if you really want to spend the money.

A SCS nub with a Guarder or Systema bucking is as good as a H-nub. Both had 2 in groupings at 30 feet when tested.

Where would I buy different nubs?

And are the bushings and guide really necessary? I don't think I'll upgrade the rate of fire for a while

airsoftmathias, it's only the new JG aug a3 unfortunately... :(
But yeah, the a3 really is my best choice.  Firefly Hard nub, and maybe a Prommy barrel (if you don't have the money, just buy a Madbull m16 barrel.)
That seems about it, except maybe for good shimming.

Firefly and Promy, definately better than Systema.

Well I learned something today, anyway. I always thought Systema was the best bucking beside firefly. Live and learn...

i like tthe promy personally but i think the scope is a bit overkill, like you said your more of a run and gun type i would definatelly buy a red dot over a 3x9 sniper scope.

I like a fixed magnification scope on my rifles, but having to continually crank the adjustment ring on a 3-9x would definitely slow me down.

I would recommend I different kit for the cylinder. All you really need is a x-oring and if you are running a high speed set up cut the second tooth off the piston

No where close. Systemas aren't even up there with a stock TM bucking.
So far I've found a Prometheus and an H-Nub to be the best combination.

BTW if you're going to go with an RDS I recommend the G&P Aimpoint. EHobbyAsia has 'em for like $30-$40 shipped.

The UTG Mil 2x20 tactical red/green dot scope is also a very valid option for the same price, you also get some magnification, but not too much :].

True but isn't it true that you can see farther than you can shoot on an airsoft gun... but 9x magnification is a bit much though. i have a 2.5x magnification one on mine made by weaver and it is good 2$ at goodwill and i refurbrished so there is no rust and the sight picture is crystal clear.

i think you will like a 3x scope. my JG AUG shot more like 350 out of the box. Anyway, I think you have a good list there. Maybe a prommy bucking and H nub. I haven't used that setup, but it seems to be very popular on the board.

I bought the same gun but from a different site about 3 weeks ago.  According to my Fidragon chrono it is shooting an AVG of 347 right out of the box.  And 15 RPS with the stock battery right off the charger and into the gun.

BTW, I bought mine from Globe Product Supply for $96 + shipping (you have to order at least $100 dollars though).
http://www.wholesalecentral.com/globeproductsupply/store.cfm?event=itemdetail&itemid=683179&returnto=http://www.wholesalecentral.com/globeproductsupply/store.cfm%3Fevent%3Dshowcatalog%26catid%3D73868

I put a G&P metal hop-up and bucking in it with an Element H-nub (ehobbyaisia.com) and the JBU 6.03 TB from ASGI in it and I'm having some feeding issue.  But haven't had time to look it over again yet.

Could you elaborate on feeding issues? After I put a JBU TB in my AUG it started jamming occasionally. I chalked it up to cheap(ish) bbs, but maybe there's more to it. Also, I'm not using a h-nub or metal hop up right now, but those are in the near future.

about the fps, you are getting mosy accuracy upgrades, so I dont think that will affect the fps much, so you have a 340fps with ..20s!!! you are buying .25s, so drop about 20fps or so and you have around 320fps. Not that great really, the bbs may be to haevy for your gun!! Mine shoots 360fps with .25s and they are still a litlle too heavy for the given velocity. So maybe .23s? Also, the scope! Why not a nice red dot? Come on a snper scope???

Unfortunately, I have to agree with the fact that I don't think you need a sniper scope. For that kind of money, I think you could easily buy a decent red dot, and that would be a much better investment.

With the hop-up turned completely off; Using semi-auto my first shot after inserting the magazine shoots fine.  After the first shot, it only fires a BB occasionally.  Using full-auto it feeds most of the time, but occasionally will skip a BB or two.  After testing I usually will have to pull the upper receiver off and dump 1 or 2 BBs out of the lower receiver.

I think my problem may have to do with the alignment of the new metal hop-up unit.  Looking down the BB well I can see the lip of the hop-up unit on one side and not on the other.

I'm using Crosman 0.20g BBs and they work fine in my JG G36c with a JBU 6.03 TB.

Thanks for the info. Nothing like my problem, but maybe I should go with the G&G AUG metal hop-up instead of the G&P. Incidentally, I was using Goldenball .2 bbs. But we're getting off topic.

The OP already changed his mind about the scope:

Alright well here's what i have planned to buy in the near future, based on what I've been reading.
