I dont' really mind. I can usually gauge a person's knowledge on how well he or she types, or how much technical knowledge he or she has.

It's really not that hard.

No it was extremely abused.

I smite you, you smite me back. Weather or not I did anything wrong, I smited you.

******READ THIS PART******

Maybe people should only be able to get positive rep for good things. That way no complaints really and you can still see who is good or not. If a person has a low rep then that means they haven't helped alot of people or are new. Either or is hard to trust on thier quality but it is still a good idea.

Or maybe people should just get a life, and not compete for "fame" on a website.

It kinda reminds me of children bickering hehe.

yeah, Rep was as bogus as a Cuban election. i had about 10 for a nice sig (which indeed it is, but wait, a "This Is Not grammer retreat is coming soon") also i ahve actually seen somone get Repped for "giving out more rep than *blanks* mom" i saw far more Postitive rep abuse then negative definately.

Thank you.  It was getting annoying.  Especially with people like Sniper having the power to change rep.

I liked it, but as long as people like that have the power to change rep, it isn't going to work out well,

I think BigPhish is right...when we bicker we sound like children.  I'm not saying we shouldn't discuss this, but if someone abuses the rep system, they should just never be allowed to use it again.  Or have their ranking be like "CyberGunner" just to shame them:)

I remember someone gave me a + rep for the Pink Floyd avatar!

But seriously, the rep system was sort of a waste of time for everyone (no offense rep system supporters).  A more appropriate use for the rep system may be in the classifields, where buyers are trying to find out who they can trust most.

Maybe we should have special "ranks" like ASR does, except in a positive way as well as a negative way. For example:

Positive: Modder, Reviewer, Problem Solver, etc.
Negative: Rank Poster, Noob, Thread-Jacker, etc.

These would be given out by mods to special individuals on the site who have either contributed a lot or have been complete idiots. Just a nice way to give appreciation to those who deserve it.

I had 24 rep, for the record. Newbkiller had 54, man is he going to be pissed when he reads this...

I liked the rep system. I think it was somewhat accurate and over time it would've worked out. I miss it. I hope it comes back and hopefully all of the reps will be reset. My rep was +17 but it would be good to reset them so that now people might get the message about not abusing them.

I had to work hard for the rep, review guns, post long-winded stories and tactics, PM raptor about a dozen times and help somebody fix up a hi-cap. But hey, I see the opposing point of view, and frankly, its valid. I think that after most people get the first +1, they try to behave and get more, but if they get smited right away, they become the people who "don't care"
I can't remember any of my classes about this stuff, shows what I know.

yeah it's kinda funny how all the people who had lower rep.say that they are happier now. and the people who had high rep. are sad to see the system go.

It was an alright system I think, but I assume the mods know more about it than we do, so lets let it go.

Newb has the right idea, asses did get negative rep, and helpful members were positive.  I don't like how the only differences we have is rank based on post count.  Basing anything on post count is rediculous.  But again, I bet the mods have seen it better than us.

NO! this is pissing me off, the rep system kept the average user in line. it made it so if you were an idiot and said stupid crap, you'd have a negative reputation and if you were helpfull, original, and polite, you'de have positive rep. I tried hard at being nice and helpful to people so that I would be recognized for it and people would actuall ylisten to me. but now, since our rep system is gone, we can't let people know if users are jerks or genuine. This is very dissapointing and needs afix. I really like kev's idea of the special ranks but sometimes those don't really work. my favorite idea so far has been the only positive rep, that way none get's into smiting "wars". I personally prided myself on having the fourth highest rep, only under mods. I have very little faith that this site will stay (for the most part) spam and n00b free without the rep system.

I Newbkiller is right. But i also think we can fix the problem by having all rep changes modderated by the admins before they are sent. And the limit of one per hour.

maybe we should have a system where people actually petition for special titles... like expert in this or that... or make them have a star by their name and a couple specific topic where they really are helpful in.  for example, put a little star by Wolfhound 9K's name in the "clothing/gear" and "tactics" section if that user is really active and helpful in those specific areas... just a thought

I say bring it back for General rank only. It was the whiney newbs that killed it. I strived to make sure I never posted BS and was always on my best behavior. I think the system worked but the ranking was too low, so anyone could do it and I believe that is what killed it.

Bring it back for Generals only.

i like the only-positive-rep idea, or the general rank only idea.

the custom title idea sounds good also... but personally i wish we had the ability to edit our titles anyway.  also, i think the postcount stat should be removed from display completely.  a rep system is a much more accurate judge of who knows what.  postcount should remain in someone's profile and not stuck under their name.

just my opinion... =)

Frankly, I think everyone needs to realize this was taken away because of problems which you, the general membership, created. People focused too much on rep points, were overly sensitive and/or used the rep system to retaliate over hurt feelings. The general consensus is the rep system was not being used in a mature & responsible way. If you can't follow the way things are supposed to be around here, there will be repercussions.

The next thing you need to observe is to follow the rules regarding signature size. I am getting tired of sending out PMs warning people and now I am just deleting signatures. The next step might be to eliminate signatures altogether. Take a hint people and follow the rules. Locked.

i cannot stress enough that i am in agreement with RLB on the signature issue %100. i am also tired of having to edit signatures and send out PMs. remember on v2 when there were signatures--and then they were taken away. the same thing could happen here if you guys can't be responsible and follow the rules.

finally, if you are sent a PM regarding your signature: DON'T ARGUE. we set up the rules, you broke them, we dealt with it... it's as simple as that.

still locked.
