How is 550 cord tied most of the time? (odd question, I know) it seems hard to tie together since it's kind of thick. Does it melt together, or what is the best method for fastening small loops of it?

And I really like the idea of drilling out the grip. Why not just drill, then attach directly to there?

I would just double knot it with enough room to make the loop and melt the knot. 550 cord makes wonders. I use them as magpulls on all my M16 magazines. Must be metal magazines though so you won't have to worry about taping it on there.

A decent pair of gloves can make or break your kit. You can never go wrong with those $20 fake nomex flight gloves. I'm very frugal though so I will have to get a pair of Oakley factory pilot gloves. Also protects you when you trip and fall on a cactus.

Ok this thread has kinda been accidentally threadjacked but here's some relatively cheap gear and other things that make you look legit'

Shemagh - Around the neck or worn normally
http://www.opsgear.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=shemagh&Search.x=10&Search.y=13
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_0RubMi88JFI/SUlz3UzHFUI/AAAAAAAAAL8/7NFnmTC8azo/s320/shemagh+US+soldier+1.jpg
http://www.recon-tactical.com/images/Shyemagh%202.jpg
Paracord - coil of paracord attached to your vest with either a grimloc or a carabiner
http://www.opsgear.com/100-Foot-7-Strand-550-PARA-Cord-p/atl-550-cord-100.htm
http://www.opsgear.com/MAXPEDITION-GRIMLOC-Locking-D-Ring-4-Pack-p/mx-grml-004.htm
Ziptie Handcuffs - again attached to your vest with either a grimloc or a carabiner. Also good for hostage and target capture games! I haven't found any on the internet, but normal zip ties will suffice.
http://www.securicare.com/img/fullsize/product50.jpg
Chemical Flares - Just normal glowsticks useful for making "Honeypots" and also used as killrags during night games. As mentioned earlier, don't take them out of their wrappers unless your going to be using them
http://www.wannabe.uk.com/GRAW%20013.jpg (2 on the left chest of his vest)
http://yourkidmatters.com/images/glow-sticks.jpg
Morale Patches - Small patches with no significant meaning, just for fun.
http://www.milspecmonkey.com/images/williams-patches1.jpg

Also some other things:
Put nicks and scratches in your gun paint
Spray some camo spray paint on your vest (just 3 or 4 single lines on the front and back)
Dirty up your uniform and gear

I dont think so but Ive seen inserts that go around your mag and add a lanyard loop.  I think you need an extended mag though

Lucky string is what it sounds like... just get some string of any sort and make it "lucky"  just loop it through your MOLLE vest.  It'll make it look more full.

Usually to tie 550 cord I use a square knot or an overhand knot.  The reason I wouldn't tie a lanyard straight to the pistol is that it makes it harder to store and clean.  Plus you can leave the lanyard attached to your rig.

Fake explosives make you look badass. Fit your team if you are military try breaching charges or  c4.
Breaching tools built in to your gun.(looks cool and in cqb allows slamming in of doors.).
For my non military loadout I want spiked gauntlets. That will give me arm protection and make all of the idiots sh*t themselves.

If it hasnt been said get a black caribinear and put it on the righ or left shoulder of your rig so when you go hands free or use your pistol you can  slig your gun across you and clip it into the caribinear so your gun doesnt fall off you. I do this and It works great.

Thanks for the help and ideas everyone! Here's what I'm gonna get...

Blackwater Retention Lanyard - drilled out the grip on my Glock to accomodate the lanyard
(3) Grimloc Carabiners - Wahtever I find them useful for (probably 550 cord, zipt ties, and what War-Dog mentioned)
100 ft. 550 Cord - Eh, pretty much everything.
Coyote/Black Shemagh - Just for looks. And kicks. And giggles.
One-Point bungee sling - Kiiinda self explanatory.

Any other tips/ideas are very welcome, after all, I'm not the only person this thread is helping (I'm sure).

Oh, and one more addition to this thread.
I recommend getting optics of some kind, because they look cool, as well as helping with faster target acquisition/zoom/etc. Personally, I'm a fan of the G&P Aimpoint Replica.

(Get it at ehobbyAsia/their ebay store.)

One thing I forgot, but after searching the brain and looking over a '70s vintage training manual from the US Army, a medic or first aid pouch or two.

For the ultimate tacti-coolness, you can get the rubber bayonet+sheath from evike http://www.airsoftpost.com/matrix-airsoft-m4m16-rubber-bayonet-with-sheath-p-25531.html, 10 bucks and you can attach it as you would a real bayonet, or be super badass and drop your rifle, don your face paint and knife in hand go crawling for some knife kills  ;D, im gonna strap it to my shoulder holster.  Also, for shotties or snipers especially or even an m4 a stock wrap with shells/rounds or a nice patch

EDIT: OMG almost forgot, if your a shottie user, a full bandolier of shot shells, for M203 users, a full bandolier of 40mm shells, and for a para, saw, etc user, a full belt of .50cal across your chest, reason: uh, you can never have too much ammo, plus nothing is scarier than a fully loaded heavy infantry with a full belt of 203 shells or shot shells across the chest, or a support gunner with a belt of .50cal, double points for no shirt with two belts

A full belt of M203 shells would be hundreds of dollars...

good idea, not too practical, but the shotgun aspect could work. just keeping the shells(40mm) gassed for a while might not be to good, plus i wouldn't want to walk around with 20 gas-filled canisters strapped to me while people are shooting...hhmm i never knew M249's shot 50 cal....

M249s don't shoot .50. That guy is just on something. I guess I'll put in my 2 cents by recommend an assault pack, medium size or so, I always thought they were pretty intimidating; plus you can carry a lot of crap you wouldn't normally carry.

PRO TIP (lol): It's far easier to tie knots in paracord that will actually stay tied if you remove the core.

I know M249s dont shoot 50cal, but belts of fake 50cal are cheap and easy to find, and it will look the part.  and I know a full bandolier of 40mm would be unbelievably expensive, but you could do a bunch of fake ones with 3-4 or however many you used in the right location.  comon, you said tacti-coolness, how many of you wouldnt go rambo style for a round or two with a para and twin bullet belts across the chest (with the requisite headband)?

EDIT: and I did know a guy who rolled with a (not full) bandolier with 10 or so shells and an M32 launcher.  he was great for clearing out killhouses
