Flashlight for M4 that does not cost $100
« on: March 10, 2009, 05:36:47 PM »

I am looking for a flashlight, mount, and pressure switch for around forty or so dollars. I do not care if it is surefire or anything but it must be at least decent quality. Does anybody have any suggestions on this?

Edit: Does anyone have any experience with this flashlight:
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=36_118&products_id=304

Thanks,
Trevor

It's okay, I used to have one myself as well as one of my friends. It's good enough but it could be brighter. It all depends on what you want to use it for however. It's good enough for CQB work but when you're out during a night game the light only goes about 15 ft.

I'm at work right now and ASGI is blocked. They have one for (if I remember right) $35 that is absolutely fantastic. It is easily 5 times brighter than any of my heavy duty MagLite flashlights and it has a good quality pressure pad that I have attached to a vertical grip with industrial strength velcro. When I get home from work I can see which one you linked to and if it's not the right one I'll link you to the one I have. My friend has a $110 tac-light on his UMP (I don't know the brand) and it's not even close to the brightness of the one I have from ASGI. Also the one I have has a surprisingly good physical build quality and I would expect my rifle to break before the light if I were to drop it.

Also in terms of distance it will brightly illuminate things out to about 150ft. I use it if I hear animals rustling in the woods behind my house at night and it work's great.

edit: The one you linked to is the one I was talking about. Sorry silentmercenary but I don't know what you're talking about. I would use the thing in place of any MagLite or high powered LED flashlight that I've seen as a normal flashlight and it seems like a no brainer as a tac-light. It's bright enough that in dim light or darkness it will blind someone as long as you're shining it at them.

If you want a cheap, good flashlight for your m4, get a Surefire G2 ($35) and a mount of some sort (heck, scope rings will work). Thats about 50 bucks for a flashlight so many times better than the utg one.

Deal Extreme CREE Q5 or R2 taclight (if you choose a "AA" model you will save on batteries as well) + cheap pressure pad + scope ring = bright as hell AirSoft light setup for under $40 shipped

if you choose to use your thumb to activate the light from the side of a vert grip, then I would highly recommend trying to order a spare switch, because those are usually the first to fail on cheap lights - but did I mention that they ARE very bright??  8)  for AirSoft use only..

Nickkelbackk, I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for in a flashlight. If it were me I prefer the UTG because it has a pressure pad (and it's a very durable pad). If you don't want a pressure pad then the Surefire might be best.

Mine had the pressure pad break after 2 games. Didn't even get snagged on anything I was dissapointed at the quality.

Strange. I've been using mine a year and it's been through about 20 skirmishes and it's still shining bright and working perfectly.

I've used http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=36_118&products_id=843 at two night games so far and I was very pleased with its performance. I used it heavily during those night games and nothing broke on it. It comes with everything you need to mount to an RIS and it also comes with a pressure switch.

I had a few opponents come over and ask if it was a surefire because they were blinded by it.

That uses the same pressure pad as the UTG light that I've been talking about. I've really had good luck with it and it sounds like you have too, decoy.

It looks as if I will get the UTG as there have been a lot of good responses from it. I do not want a surefire because: surefire: 35$, mount: $20, pressure switch: $20 for a total of $75
Thanks for all of your help.

the UTG lights are not blindly bright, but bright enough to see where you are walking around

Mine, I would describe as blindingly bright. I've truly never seen a flashlight brighter (not that I'm an expert in flashlights but I've not use a brighter one).

I have an Ultrafire Cree C3 w/ barrel extension running on 2xAA's. It doesn't have a strobe but it was only $15- definitely a good buy:

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4452

It was my first high output LED light (not from WalMart) and I would really like to have a mode selection + strobe on my next light, so I've decided on the Fenix L2D CE "Premium" Q5. Make sure to note the "Q5" because it's a separate version than the standard L2D CE. Here's some good info on the Q5:
http://www.cpfreviews.com/Fenix-L2DCE-Premium-Q5.php

And the light itself off of DX for $52:

and eight cents  -cry-

SureFire themselves are no longer producing new incandescent models - at least not for the past few years...  dealers are trying to liquidate the lower end SF lights because they know that when consumers in general begin to wise up to the benefits of LED technology over traditional incandescent technology, they (the general non-tactical user) will have no need for a sub 200 lumen incan.  The color rendition gap has been bridged, and SF's new "vampire" lineup for 2009 gives users both standard and IR illumination in the same package...

a pressure pad is not required for a rifle light settup, I run a light at the 9 o'clock position on the rail with a vert grip at the 6 o'clock. I just bring my thumb over and up if I need to turn on the light. If you have larger hands then you can run the light at the 3 o'clock and not have to bring your thumb over, just up.

ymmv however

picked up 2 of these. yeah, they're not tacticool, but i saw them at my local walmart for $20, they're LED, 115 lumens, have a very direct beam, and take 3 AAAs batteries. so far it's been very durable. it's like the AK-47 of handheld flashlights ;D

i have one in my vehicle, and one attached to my Mossberg 500. it's sat right under the barrel for hundreds of shells (lots of buck/slugs, so recoil hasn't killed it) and functions perfectly. you can always paint them. also, it states on the walmart website that is a 1.2 inch diameter light, so it may not fit light attachments unless they are widely universal ones. the one i have for my shotgun is a simple clamp one.

tempted to pick up a similar item. just has a blue and red lens through a rotating top. one review doesn't make the top sound too great though.

I just bought the Ultrafire WF-500 from DealExtreme.com.
It's only $25 shipped,
I bought 2 rechargeable Lithium batteries for $8 shipped,
And got a charger for $8.50 shipped,

total of $41.50 shipped, and it's a freaking bright light that has like a million good reviews.
