I haven't actually flown the Commander, so I don't know how much power it has. However, I do know there are guys who have successfully set up a Parkzone Vapor () with a camera system, so there are definitely lightweight systems available. You can pick up cheap 12v cameras on Ebay for about $20; after that, all you need is the video receiver, transmitter (and a battery to power it), and a monitor (any TV).
It doesn't really take any electrical know-how, just common sense, logic, and instructions
On a side note, I just made a connection yesterday that should revolutionize my building/design/assembly process, so things will be going MUCH more quickly and much sooner than anticipated. Stay tuned
I have flown the firebird commander. it was my first plane. It's great for beginners because it is a pusher, its very durable, its electric, and it only has two channels, one for power (which you use to control up and down movement) and one for steering. It would probably take a lot of well placed shots to bring it down. As for power, it isn't a aerobatics plane, but you could probably throw on a camera and it would still fly.
As for armaments, I was thinking a mini electric stripped down to the bear essentials might be good. They have plastic gearboxes, so it would be light, there very cheap, they come with a short barrel, they are gravity fed, so you could make a huge tank for the ammo and not worry about winding hi-caps, and they use .12s so the ammo would be very cheap. You could probably put two or three on a plane depending on how big the plane is. Just my $.02
Amazing work, I'm glad to see people being innovative and progressing the sport.
