Making a battery discharger
« on: September 21, 2009, 04:27:38 PM »

Alright so I overcharged one of my batteries and need to discharge it... but I don't have a discharger and don't have time to wait on another to ship. A while back I was told that I could build one by using these parts:
LED: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102849&y=12&x=13&retainProdsInSession=1
LED current limiter: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062343
Battery Discharging resistors: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062290

My question is... how can I do this?

EDITED for clarification.

Why be a cheap a*** on your airsoft stuff and take a risk on ruining your batteries?

$12 & it has an automatic cutoff.

That was not an answer to my question... I'm primarily doing this because I have an OP coming up on saturday and I need them discharged by then.

Well as far as I can tell the Tokyo Mauri discharger is just a red bulb.  In theory anything that needs your battery's power would work I guess.  Just hook the battery to a lightbulb of some kind and it might work.

You can jus rig some wires to a car light bulb. Worked great when I used to use Nicad batts. It's Lipoly and Nimh for me now. Mario got the right idea heh.

Without an auto cutoff switch you run the risk of ruinining your batteries unless you know what you are doing. Your battery cells may not drain evenly and if one or more cell is completely discharged while the others are still draining, it could reverse the polarity of the cells.

I drain mine with a version 2 wiring assembly, hooked to the motor. I let it run until the motor stops turning, then i charge the battery for the calculated 7 hours and it works fine.

A risky method.
