What gear is right for me?
« on: October 14, 2009, 05:53:06 PM »

Hi all! I'm looking to trade out my OE TECH Crossdraw for something a bit more up scale. Using the sticky at the top of the page, I came up with a guide for myself.

Budget- Under $200, hopefully under $150. Including everything, pouches, vest, etc.
Magazines- 4-6 AUG Mags, 2 M11 Mags
Capacity- Those, a dump pouch, utility pouch, other basic pouches. With an option of hydration carrier.
Color/Sizing- I'm 5' 10" 170lbs, and I play woodland, hoping MARPAT, OD , or other woodland color.
Durability- I want this to be the last gear that I buy. I try to pull some pretty crazy moves, but if this vest lasts a couple of years I'd be pleased. I play roughly once a week.

First I was thinking EA gear from ehobbyasia.com. But then I was like, nah. Too cheap. So I looked around and everything that I looked at was too expensive. I'm trying to find a middle ground, hopefull MOLLE of some kind. Can someone help me? Thanks in advance.

EA gear is seriously cheap. Your best bet is to go with MOLLE gear. Do you like how your crossdraw fits? You can get a vest thats similar but no pouches instead has MOLLE on it. Or you can get a cONDOR Compact PC. Also, EBBanned has some pretty good MOLLE vests with pouches. Evike has a deal where you can get a crossdraw-like vest with a buncha pouches for $100 or so.

I was looking for more the plate carrier, modular looking type thing. I like the vest, but I don't know if it will have enough space. I'd prefer that CONDOR Compact PC, do they have a non compact one? I'll take a look at it though. Thanks.

I know right! It can be tough to find the right gear. That compact plate carrier actually looks great. Says 600D which I know isn't as great as 1000D, but will it be strong enough for my purposes? Also, looking at that carrier, it looks quite loose. Is that just me, or is it actually loose? Also, pouches. Where is the cheapest place to buy them? Thinking ASGI b/c of 10% off but I could be wrong. Thanks for all your help.

Come with 4 M4 size mag pouches, a hydration pack, a dump pouch, and a utility pouch. All for $110 in addition to free shipping, a 10% discount, and trust in the fact that it is condor branded gear, which is affordable and pretty durable (not as durable as, say, Eagle Industries, but it works well).

And 600D is all you're gonna need unless you're going to Iraq. Seriously, 1000D is only needed for people who need to go through more extreme situations and terrain. Maybe like diving or something like that.

Cool. Satisfies all my needs, durable, not to bad for price. Only problem I see is can those pouches fit AUG mags? I know some that claim to fit 2 AR mags can only fit 1 of certain other mags. I'd imagine that the AUG mags should fit, but you never know. I'll probably stick with that, unless I can make a better package for cheaper (Not likely.  ;D ).

Well as long as the AUG mag is roughly m4 mag sized, the mags should fit. I personally own the tan version of this set, of course with a few additions like pistol mag pouches, but I've been able to fit SCAR H mags just barely into the pouch. So since the AUG uses 5.56 sized mags anyway, the mags should fit.

I think AUG mags should fit 2 to a pouch in M4 pouches, they may sit a little low though as I remember AUG mags are shorter than M4 mags.

Pantac and Flyye makes some great gear. Both make gear out of 1000d cordura, which is milspec.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Pantac-WSH-Chest-Rig-Vest-Coyote-Brown-VT-C013-CB-A_W0QQitemZ170350484776QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item27a9ae1d28

I think that would be a good option.

Also, if it's the last piece of gear you want to buy, I would recommend buying it in coyote brown/tan as that color will go with most camo.

yes, second the pantac.
at the OP..........some 'claim' the 600d will last you, but you said you'll be using it once a week and want it to be the last piece of gear you buy....why not make it a good piece of gear?

lastly, i have compared the UTG(which i believe is an imported Condor...no?) crossdraw with my Pantac MBSS, Pantac wins hands down.
P.S.-I also second the Coyote, it's very universal

I agree that pantac is a great option, but you guys gotta remember that he wants a vest under $200 that comes with enough pouches to carry all his stuff. A pantac vest alone will run him quite a bit.

$65 is quite a bit? someone needs to rethink their budget. seriously, i've seen condor and "OETech" costing more than that. there are quite a few Pantac rigs under $100, people are just too ignorant. go check out airsoftsmith.com and airsoft-unlimited.net and you'll see what i mean. i'm not saying his entire kit has to consist of Pantac or better, even if he get's just a pantac rig loaded with condor pouches, he'll be able to work his way up to better pouches.

Buy my setup lol - I'm switching to tan gear anyways XD.

Illegal-ad-placing aside, look in to any ACM gear for starters...if quality isn't that big an issue for you. Mine has been holding up for a year now - love it. A lot of packages you'll find will include M4 pouches, admin pouches, dump pouch, medic pouch, etc. for a nice price. Don't forget your hydration pack also - that's the most important part of your setup.

Well, that does leave his choice of vest quite limited when it comes to pantac. That's literally the only vest under $100 that has molle webbing. And to make up for the cost of the vest, he might just have to settle with condor pouches.

There's a rig for 81.99 that ships from within the US. Comes with built in mag pouches with tons of real estate to expand upon.

Well, I would recomend this ( http://www.airsoftpost.com/tactical-special-force-vest-full-pouch-systemod-p-27771.html ), It comes with the pouches, and its mad of 600d condura nylon.

Wow. Thanks for all the reply's so quickly. To NiXoN, that looks like it might be a little over kill for my purposes. To everyone that has mentioned airsoftsmith.com, thanks. I have never heard of them. Seriously.  ;D . BTW, I just read quickly, but wherever the impression was taken that I will only spend $65 on a vest just isn't true. Don't know where that came from, but put that to bed now. From what I gather, 600D should be just fine. Also, I would be considered a rifleman/assault/whatever you want to call it. Something like riptide's set up is something I'm looking for, except with a hydration carrier on the back and minus what looks like a knife on the front?  ;D But it would seem that buying package deals is much more worth it than just buying a vest/PC and buying seperate pouches. Also, I don't really want crossdraws or that sort of vest. Looking for the plate carrier look, like I said before. Also, MOLLE on the sides is a big plus. Sorta rambled on for a while here but I hope I clarified a bit.

You might want to check out some of the stuff on weapon blender. Its cheap, 600D, comes with pouches, and looks pretty legit.
Heres a few:

Yeah, I had looked at the 1st one but dismissed it for some reason that I don't remember. But I have seen that one and it did look good. The second one not really as interested in, just because it looks cheaper, but I'll keep my eye on it. Thanks.

Ehobby/ACM stuff is garbage. Get an Pantac 1961a or EI universal rig. There pretty cool.

Another +1 for Pantac.

You can use STANAG mag pouches for your AUG mags but it will be a very tight fit. I use the Pantac 14 mag pouch. They can fit a total of 4 AUG mags, 2 per pouch. The AUG mags will be secure yet easy to pull out. I definitely recommend this pouch to all AUG owners.
