so i'm sure that a lot of you guys heard by now... new color schemes for the ACUs... I think they kind of look funky...

Looks like ACU attacked by a baby wielding a spoon of sweet potato puree. We'll have to see how it works out. It doesn't look all that original imo.

Multicam may also be an interesting choice (yes, its being used by the Army for evaluation), but I've never been there so I really couldn't say.

Oh sweet, so instead of investing in Multicam, which can be used in virtually any environment, lets just continue to buy uniforms for specific arenas and waste a ton of money on a new camo that won't work either.

Kind of looks like Flecktarn in that pic.

The coyote brown just seems to stand out, and make it look worse in the original pic.

This is so much better than the original ACU. This will actually camouflage the soldier instead of making them into a gray and white blur against a tan background. IMO, Multicam looks like baby vomit. I thought it looked cool at first, but after seeing it up close, I am not a fan. This camo would work better in a woodland area too as compared to ACU.

Looks like it will work pretty well in afghanistan, IMO. Multicam wouldn't have been a bad choice either.

UCP is a hoax and is another way for the Army to save money. UCP is the same pattern with an added color.

MultiCam is also being tested:

All of the camouflage types being tested:

(Although most types have already been kicked from evaluation/testing, it's fundamentally down to MC and UCP)

Yes, look into the Universal Camo field tests in which ACU won out, and Multicam was was in the field test back then as well.

but multicam pattern wasn't digital and the marketing department demanded the winner of the UCP trials be digital to help appeal to the video game generation they desparately need to recruit

I think the primary reason the Army didn't choose MC in the first place was because of the price. Crye was asking a lot for those uniforms.

I think it kind of looks like some one crapped themselves wearing ACUs lolol jk
but I think if they're going to make effective camouflage for Afghanistan they might want to remove the Urban Gray color, and tone down the green a little bit... any maybe it would help to have the same camo for the MICH helmet too.

The more I see Mirage camo, the more I think it blends in well. MC works better in greener areas, but from what I've seen, Mirage is perfect for Afghanistan's landscapes, as evidenced by this test (I know, these are taken in Oklahoma, but apparently that's as close as you can get):

I suppose it looks effective...much more than regular ACU anyway, but then again that's not saying a whole lot. In my humble opinion, it looks like a mash between German Flektarn and a brick/cinder block.

This reminds me of recently how Domino's Pizza recognized they're pizza was crap, so they were like "hmm...maybe should we make it better?" "ya know, that's not a bad idea!".

Why do you think ACU won? Because it's superior to MultiCam? Does the evidence support this?

It was done for money and to invest in an digital pattern, which the generals thought was 'pretty looking'.

Ok, here it comes from the horse's mouth. I am in Afghanistan right now. There is a company from the 82nd Airborne Division testing the next ACUs. There is also a company from another unit testing multi cam.
The new ACUs just look like dirty ACUs. Like nasty rolled in the mud ditry. They look much more effective at concealment, and after talking to a few of the guys, they like the colors more.
I haven't had a chance to talk to the multi cam guys yet.
