If you're the kind of person that has a tendency to grip at the magwell, these things are great(You can mess up your mag catch, etc... if you grip it this way otherwise).  Seems to be most comfortable with the "Chris Costa, grip the whole rifle" tactical carbine style gripping, and they do an excellent job with mag load assist.  I can't really speak for the Mako one as I have the one from Tactical Magwell but from what I can see the only real difference is aesthetics.
