So I'm looking for a new rifle with a longer range than my MP5. I am also thinking of putting together a DMR in the future and would likely use this rifle as a base. I am looking at the metal JG Type 89. I like the platform and I am in love with the 3 round burst feature. I am not really one for the spray and pray approach and I have been looking for a tri shot rifle. The Type 89 also uses a V8 GB. I know JG internals leave something to be desired but a lot of it would either get tweaked or replaced. I am using my MP5 to learn internal mods and such. All the reviews I have seen on this rifle have been positive. I would likely get the rifle up to roughly 400fps, add a tbb and the usual internal stuff. So what do you guys think? Does this rifle stack up? Anybody have it? http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_info.php?cPath=21_44_211&products_id=30160

Cool, That's a well thought out review and very helpful. What I'm seeing is that while minor upgrades are available, it's not something to plan to do a major overhaul on. I am still in love with the gun and may end up picking one up. It certainly has a lot more character than an M4/16 or an AK or something. The more I look at it, the more I like it.

Thats externals, the internals are your standard V2 gearbox, and the hopup bucking/outer barrel are standard as well, so replacing them for a DMR isn't diificult, i'm actually looking to build my DMR on this rifle. The only part semi-difficult to source is the TM Type89 scope mount which you'll want if your building a DMR.

Well that shouldn't be too hard. I think this is what I may end up with. Now all I have to do is wait until Evike has them in stock.

bro if you want 3-shot burst get a extreme fire mosfet, ive heard they are good and they have different programing on them.
A good gun would be an ICS M16, split GB so you could have 2 or more upper reciever/barrel/spring/roles and the ability to use them on the "universal" lower reciever/buttstock.
The modular abilities of it make it a great platform and workhorse, IMO.

True, the AR platform is a great modular design. But quite frankly, I get enough of them in the real world. The type 89 is more the design I'm looking for. A full size, heavy weight battle rifle. No frills, nothing fancy. I really wanted an FAL or something like that but don't have the money to shell out for it right now. I would throw the Type 89 in the same category, 3 round burst is just the icing.
PS- Dsquall, Ehobbyasia has the Type 89 scope mount for $20.99

Only a suggestion, i read somewhere on ASR that the mechanical burst is faulty, but apart from that the vids ive seen and booligan's review make it out to be a pretty good gun.
It has its own brand of sexiness. LoL

im going to go old school and recommend the CM.031 for a workhorse, i had one for over a year and the internals still looked almost new, definitely one of my best AEG purchases.

Still, be as good as it may be, the 031 is: 1, Outdated as hell 2, Needs a helluva lot of upgrades if the op plans to use it as a DMR base. (for example it doesn't even have a side mount rail on the plastic receiver) So you definitely have better picks from the ACM AK range with full metal/wood exteriors. I would vote on the type 89 above the AK line for it's uniqueness, and for the added little extras. The metal body and the integrated bipod are great features for an AEG in this price range.

You could buy an intervention for that much. And the interventions in Call of duty so it must be better.

I would definately go with the 89 over an AK. I have never been a big fan of the AK, even the RS I built. Nothing wrong with them, there are just better options for me, the 89 seems like one. I will look around about the burst being iffy, see what I can find.

BigFatts, have u ever considered getting an AUG? 509mm inner barrel, rock-solid Ver. 3 mechbox, plenty of parts, woodland or F.I.S.H. capable. It'll out-range the T89 for sure. A great base-rifle for a DMR. If there ever was a workhorse AEG, this would be it.

Everybody is giving you advise, just some things to think about What type of gearbox is easy to work on and the parts you would need to replace if broke or upgrade, bang for bucks battery space, what you comfortable with ........etc , Any of the new Cyma AK's cm040c/d or CM048/m/s or dboy Kalash Rk02/3/6 , or new JG M4 or SR25. these are, I feel the best of the ACM aeg's and very solid performing, great out the box and not over priced, just my 2cents.
