The Gear Picture/Description/Where/Why/How Much Thread Version 2
« on: February 09, 2010, 02:58:21 PM »

The other thread got too big to be useful, so we're restarting it here.

The Gear Picture/Description/Where/Why/How Much Thread

Thread Rules:
This thread is for pictures of loose gear only. If you are taking pictures of your full loadout with you in it, post it HERE. If you just got an awesome new rig and want to show it off without giving any info, the gallery is located HERE.

If you just got a new rig and want to show it off AND tell people where you got it, why you chose it, advantages/disadvantages of the setup, cost, etc, then you are in the right place! If you updated your pouches, patches, mags, etc, then post the picture AND describe any changes, as well as why/where/etc...

Please post your pics with the proper orientation, i.e. top should be on top. We don't want people craning their neck to check out your rig.

You may ask questions, comment, praise, criticize people's gear, BUT please direct the comment directly to them and keep it constructive. If there is any needless flaming, it will be referred immediately to staff for administrative action. This will not be a thread full of "that's not accurate to what MFR would use", "you have to get two more pouches or I'll put a curse on you" , or any other crap like that. All commentary needs to be more than a "I like it" "I don't" etc... If you like it, say why and give any experience, criticism, or knowledge about it. If you don't, say why (nicely) and add what you would change.

Proper commentary would be:
PITBULL, I like your rig because it holds more mags than the CIRAS I was looking at. I think I'll try to build one similar.
Atilla, great vest, do you have issues with mid-torso looseness?
DRK, I had that vest but sold it because it frayed on the edges, which is something to watch for.
RLB, wow, I never would have thought that you could fit that many mags on a plate carrier! Thanks for giving me ideas!
XavierMace, I don't like it because it looks too cumbersome and like it would limit mobility, but good effort!
Snicker, I would like to see that on a person, can you put it on and post it in the Loadout thread?

Bad commentary would be:
You suck. Get a UTG crossdraw or I'll eat your babies.
Nice rig!
Good stuff!

Hopefully you guys get the idea.

If this thread dissolves into +1 posts, I will kill it faster than cheetah killing a salamander. If I see pics of just a gun, it's getting reported, as this is not a "look at my gun" thread. If people are posting gear pics without descriptions, then they're done.

I think I've spelled the purpose of this thread out clearly, but if you have a question about proper use of this thread, then post it here or PM me.

Alright then, I'll just post my MICH 2000 as the first helmet of the thread since I've been meaning to, but its not finished by any means

A LOT OF PICS HERE http://www.airsoftretreat.com/forums/index.php?topic=90912.0

I have some devil's disease or something, anyway headaches resulting from activity, so I can't really take more pictures at the moment.

I bought this thing because I'm a gear \/\/hore and a realism freak, and as some know, got it for a steal since I can usually find things for very cheap. I got it for $200 shipped with an issued helmet cover, and Oregon Aero padding. It came green, but since its going to be not only un covered, but for an SF-ish kit, I painted it with krylon tan camo. I need smaller pads, as you can read in the thread I linked, I only use 5 since they're too big, and even then it sits really high on my giant dome xD

I guess the main purpose of this piece of equipment is the lulz.

I plan to put a Norotos on the front since that's what the cool kids do and I found a PVS-14 style magnifier on EBAirsoft so I can use that as a monocular instead of carrying weight on my vest. I already have the IR Strobe for the helmet, but I lack velcro to put on the helmet, which I realize is cheap, but I'm throwing all my money into getting my GBBR and Pistol skirmishable, as well as getting a working rig ready.

I'll be posting my Eagle RRV as soon as I can find one in Ranger green in stock somewhere! Get it in the mail! I bought the back plate carrier since I found it new for $50 on a classified ad, and its in real Ranger Green or else I'd just buy a pantac, but I've already read that the colors are off, and as I said, I'm a realism freak

**Edit because while hilarious, I could get banned for a typo that way  and again for grammar ::)

***THIRD AND MOST VICTORIOUS EDIT******

I finally found a Ranger Green Eagle Industries Rhodesian Recon Vest! My excitement is at its maximum, that's what 3 days of searching for 1 singular item that was seemingly everywhere before I needed one, and now is gone, will do.

Let it be known that I, reddeth, have purchased the last RRV in Ranger Green on the entire internet.

Pictures will be up as soon as I get it

Sure thing! I was going to go khaki with rg pouches, but I saw yours, then found that rear plate carrier, and it all fell into place, except for the RRV itself, which took considerable searching to find that one singular retailer, blackstone tactical, had one and only one in stock.

Unfortunately, no pouches until next pay day, and even then, I need to get my GBBR working for the late spring/summer skirmishing season. I'll just have to make do with my ACM Coyote Brown pouches, the surprisingly good ones from my EBB CIRAS, and Fastmag, which I also found some places to buy them in FG, as I plan to use those exclusively for my primary mags.

you could go with PANTAC RG pouches I know there are a ton of them floating around. My next big purchase is a RG PACA.

Yeah, but I heard the color was off enough to really tell if you had Eagle Industries gear next to it. There's no doubt I might for some stuff, a real RG PACA carrier is hard to find in stock. It shouldn't be too much of a problem for other things though, I'm using widely available FastMag Gen. IIIs in the least wanted color they make, Foliage, You can find actual RLCS pouches all over ebay, i.e. they're in ranger green for the most part, and I might have to go with Pantac for the M.A.P.

On a side note, anyone know how the rear plate carrier attaches? I don't have the RRV or rear panel yet, but I don't see in the pictures how it would attach.

Here's my Condor RRV in its latest set up, I have had the Condor since mid 2007.  I bought it too make sure an RRV would fit my short body(I'm 5'5 125 lbs) before I dropped 185 on the Eagle version.  Well it fit and I liked it so I figured I would use it until the damn thing fell apart... and it never did fall apart so I never bothered to replace it.  I may someday still... if it ever falls apart, I beat the crap out of my gear but this thing performs.

I have an M4 pouch for a holster behind the radio pouch (out of view, Pantac), mbitr radio pouch (Phantom), CAT Turniquet, all the routing cables for the PTT, antenae etc, 1 & 2 cell M4 mag pouch(Pantac) 2 frag pouches (Eagle Industries) VIP Strobe light, and First Aid pouch(Phantom).

1337tactical.com still has some Phantom pouches in stock! I was shocked!

Here's my newest rig: Eagle Universal CR (all molle version)  all the pouches are Pantac and Phantom. First aid pouch for general purpose, 4 mag pouches for four mags, and double pistol pouch for speed loader and  multitool.

My plan for this rig is to replace the 4 magcells across the front with a flat panel EOD pouch, and slide 2 of the Mag pouches to the left side, under my arm for a lighter, lower profile set-up. I'm just waiting for the UPS man to bring me my EOD pouch!!

EDIT: the first Rig is for my 2003 Navy SEALS Recon impression, the second rig is just for pure practicality on the airsoft skirmish field.

I really like both of those set-ups there, Roob. Especially how they look with woodland.

I'm considering getting either this: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/MOLLE138-1.html

Or this: http://www.skdtac.com/Eagle_Chest_Rig_SKD_All_Molle_Version_p/eag.569.htm

I'm thinking the integral mag pouches and hydration carrier are good for the price, and, hearing about your faring well with less-than-milspec equipment, Roob, I'm not so worried about it falling apart.

I do like MC, and it would match my BDUs, but I think CB would be a better choice for versatility.

What do you guys think?

(Haha, I didn't even realize that the second rig is the same as the Roob's. Guess it's a good 'un?)

I'z a die hard MC lover, so you know my vote, but single color rigs will work with just about any BDUs. As opposed to like a MC rig over an ACU blouse.
Ya, I like those setups too Roob. How do you like your Mechanix gloves? The first time I played with mine I couldn't bring myself to take them off.

Ah, thanks for the warning!
I'm not a huge guy (5'10', 155), so that may present a problem.
Hmm... I'll just go for it, and one of my teammates can buy it from me if it doesn't do the trick. He's looking for a CB rig anyway.

eh Webster it's from Ebaybanned.com  and honestly I don't recommend it, the PTT doesn't work too well and its.. problematic at best.  A bunch of guys on my team got them and they all worked good for about two games and then one guy couldn't hear, mine the PTT button sticks down, wont pop back up.. some people have problems transmitting.

I don't use it at all anymore except to look cool like a SEAL-a-like once in a while.  if you want something that looks like it, but is better quality, look for the Cavalvy Brand ones on Redwolf and WGCshop.  much better quality.

KBD I love mechanix gloves, I have a bunch of them, the woodland ones are my favorite.

Sorry this is probably a really stupid question: does the mic just simply connect into a standard radio then?

The mic has a military-style plug, the PTT's you can get with different plugs for Motorola's, ICOM's, Kenwood, and some others.

Headset connects via cable to big PTT Button (Push To Talk)  and PTT Button connects via cable to a motorola talkabout twoway radio that is cleverly hidden inside that big fake plastic 'radio' in the MBITR radio pouch.

On the newer ones, yes, but some of the gen. 1's are still floating around out there.

I was pretty set on a Comtac clone until I read this, looks like I'm gonna just buy a Cavalvy bowman set, I'll just buy them later if I decide to finish my MARSOC impression.

I should have my RRV stuff in about a week :( when they say processing is 1-3 days, they mean 3 days before it leaves the store

Nice RRV roob, I'm glad to see it has plenty of MOLLE space, I was a little worried since I come from the CIRAS owner's club, which was my main reason for the back panel.

I am flattered I have influenced two members to purchase items I have roob with the EOD Pouch and reddeth with the RRV in RG. LOL.

I still need to source a RRV Back plate and a cummerbund for it. Might have to buy the Eagle cummerbund. But i am not worried about the colors matching what I am worried about is not paying a retarded high price tag. I think Redwolf or WGCShop will be seeing an order from me soon.

the post is the second one
