Yes or No: Charge Deans Battery with Alligator clip charger.
« on: February 15, 2010, 09:52:43 PM »

I have a battery. It has deans male connection on it.

I have a smart charger. It has an adapter for tamiya connector but also has an adapter with alligator clips on the end.

It would seem like a no-brainer, except with the little surface area contact between the charger and battery, would the 'smart' charger fully charge the battery?

Yes or No, and why.

Thanks

Yes, it'll charge fine, although having a battery with male deans plugs on it is a recipe for disaster.

Because the risk for short circuiting the battery is INCREDIBLY high with basically two exposed battery terminals at the end of the plug. You should always use a female deans plug on the battery. If it touches any conductive metal in your toolbox, gear bag, etc, your battery, and depending on the battery chemistry, whatever is near it, will likely be destroyed. It's just asking for a short circuit nightmare.

Oh okay, I understand. I guess I'll re-do my battery and actually get a deans charger adapter. Thanks!
