Ares M4 Feeding/ shooting Sporadically and not at all?
« on: March 28, 2011, 02:22:09 PM »

so my Ares was working great up until yesterday. when i went to play it sent rounds up, down, left, right.... all over, so i turned the hop-up down. now it double feeds, triple feeds, and dry fires at random. i was using high caps when it happened and they work fine with all my other rifles. i havnt broken down the rifle to trouble shoot the problem yet but any thoughts? maybe someone else has run into this problem?

Was it windy out?
What brand bb's are using as well as there weight?
What brand mags (out of curiosity)?
Have you ever cleaned your hop as well as inner barrel, and if so how long ago was it?
Ever any modifications to the hop up: new hop up, new bucking, barrel, nub?

I'd suspect it has something to do with the hop up bucking, it's possibly worn or ripped. Although I'm not entirely sure.

I'm pretty sure AirSplat BB's are AE, so those should be good.

If you play in a sandy area I hear you can get a lot of sand clogging up the hopup.

That depends on which Airsplat BB's they are.

it also happened with other bb brands as well but i used airsplats mostly (seamless and polished ofcourse). not to much sand or dirt in the area

Just a question when you switched it, did you switch the bucking or did the echo 1 come with a bucking?

A bucking is essentially a piece of ruber with some sort of shape inside of it, it could be flat (a concave or h nub would be most effective) or it could be a v shape like the firefly (a regular nub would be most effective). I'm sure that you know that when pressure is applied to the bucking it puts a back spin on the bb.

The bucking sits inside the chamber and is attached to the inner barrel, a bucking looks like this

Did you install it properly? Are you using good BB's? If you look down the hopup assembly, turn the hopup on and see if the round bump inside is centered.
