Sucker Punch
« on: April 04, 2011, 05:01:43 PM »

To all those who saw it, what did you think? It certainty was a unique film for me.

I went to see this because I was bored out of my mind and needed another movie to get the taste of "Battle:LA" out of my mouth. I went into the movie expecting lots of action and a lacking plot due to critics' reviews but at the end of the movie I was pleasantly surprised to have seen a decent plot. The plot while although pretty simplistic (IE: Girl goes to asylum then wants to escape) was made much deeper through more symbolism than I can fit in this thread. There were so many allegories that I doubt you can find them all.

The directing was great but what else would you expect from the guy who directed 300 and watchmen? The camera angles were decent throughout the entirety of the film and the environments of all the worlds, real or fake, were beautifully based off of color to reflect the mood.

The CGI was superb throughout the majority of the film with only a few little noticeable flaws.

Another great thing about this film is its reliance on its amazing soundtrack that help contribute to the movie almost as much as any of the other things. Every world had its own theme song with the title of that song reflecting that world (IE for a dragon they had "And your world will burn").

For all of those of you thinking it might now be good just remember, when was the last time you saw 5 hot chicks fighting an army of undead German zombies?

Overall I thought it was pretty good and a much needed original film. I give it an 8/10 just for the sheer entertainment it provided and the fact that it was something new. Plus 5 hot chicks running around with guns is always good.

I saw this movie and was utterly disappointed. Whatever great scene they showed in the trailer.. well the best isn't yet to come. That's pretty much all they had to offer. The plot is really bad.. like enough to even smother the whatever good special effects the movie had.

This movie was beyond stupid. If you think that there was a deeper plot and a hidden meaning to it you're just overthinking it.

My friends brought me along to go see it, and I didnt know anything about it, and I really enjoyed it.  Its one of those movies that can only be appreciated at face value. The acting is the best, the story might have some holes, but the action sequences with their over-the-top style and its ability to blend almost every single genre into one idea (Zombies, WWI, Women in skimpy outfits, Robots, Dragons, Orcs, crazy people, Strippers, Human Trafficking, Murder, Inception-esque Dream worlds, Samurai, Gunfights, etc.) really made it fun to watch.  Its not going to win any awards (Except maybe some razzies) but  it was certainly entertaining, even if on the stupidest most primal level of human thought haha

Dude that sucks. If you can get the cash, I would recommend you go see it. If not just wait for it to come out on dvd.

If they didnt have those chicks, the movie would have failed horribly.

I don't think the movie would even exist without the chicks.

LadyMG has been getting upset, since I get all googly-eyed every time a preview shows for the movie, and I get to see half-dressed schoolgirls fight robotic samurai's.  I was instantly disappointed when a friend at work saw it, and said that was not a majority of the point, and their flight from the insane asylum was the largest part of the movie.

If I wanted to see a bunch of girls whine about the state of their living arrangements, I'd watch the LadyMG clean more often.

You should make friends with the people at the theater; instant discounts.
One of my best friends works at a theater, and he gets himself and 2 people in for free at 5 locations around the Twin Cities. It makes movies much more enjoyable when you legally don't pay for them.
