How To: G36 Hop-Up Guide
Author: Cheesehead
Published: 6/17/07
Introduction
This article is intended to show you how to do a process, ASR and its staff cannot be held responsible if you screw up and break something.
The Steps
Having successfully taken your G36 series rifle apart, you may want to install a new barrel or bucking.
The first step in this procedure is to remove the barrel assembly from the rifle. To do this, remove the 2 screws on the body below the cocking lever, and the one below the carry handle (not the one in the carry handle). The barrel/gas tube/hop-up assembly will now pull straight out.
The next step is to remove the hop-up and inner barrel from the outer barrel.
This is done by pushing in on the hop-up and rotating it 90 degrees. This video shows how it's done.

With the barrel pulled out, we can go ahead and start removing the hop-up chamber, Begin by pulling off the spring.

And the hop-up clip.

Now, ensure that the hop-up is turned all the way down, and pull the hop-up chamber off of the barrel, remove the brass spacer ring too.
If you are simply replacing the barrel or bucking, and the hop-up bit hasn't fallen out, simply replace your parts, and re-assemble the gun. If you are taking the hop-up all the way apart, or the hop-up bit has fallen out, keep going.

Now that the hop-up is off of the barrel, go ahead and begin taking it apart.
Start by aligning the notches on the drum, with the tabs on the chamber. Then pull the drum off.

Now pull out the small tab that holds the hop-up bit in place, put the bit back in it if it has fallen out, and set the unit aside.

With the bit back in its holder, slide the barrel (with the bucking on) back into the hop-up chamber. Make sure that the bucking doesn't pull over the end of the barrel, and that it does not bunch up in the hole where the nozzle seals with the hop-up.

Now slide the hop-up drum back on, but do not put it all the way on.

Drop the bit and its holder into place as shown.

Align the tab on the bit holder with the cut in the hop-up drum. Then slide the drum all the way on.

Put the barrel clip back on and slide the brass spacer back into place.
Hold the business end of the barrel to the light and rotate the drum. You should be able to see the bucking protrude into the barrel as the drum is turned.
Put the spring back on and slide the barrel into the outer barrel.
That's it you're done!
