Description:

The Cyber Gun A-15 was at one time the cheapest real AEG you could buy. Since last year when I bought it, there have been many new AEG that have come on the market. These include the UTG MP5, SRC M4, and the new AIM/TOP M4.
By the end of this review I hope that you will ponder the value of the A-15 when making your next AEG purchase.
First Impressions:
When I first got this gun it was about ten minutes before I had to go to work. So for the whole day I got to think about what it was going to shoot like, heck if it would even work.
Well I got home at 5:30 and still had to charge the battery. So I got to reading the manual. First thing it goes over the usual don’t shoot people in the eyes, don’t hold up police stations with it…. yada yada yada. On the flip side of the one sheet manual it has various drawings of how to put the battery in, and how to release the anti-reverse latch.
After reading the somewhat useful manual I go to looking over the gun. First thing you will see if that the gun is somewhat shiny. There are 17 screws in the outside of the gun with the magazine in. Over all the gun is well put together and every thing works the way it was made to. Compared to a SRC M4

EXTERNALS:
One thing that people notice when they use this gun is that it is all plastic. The only metal on the out side of this gun is:
The stock tube, this is the biggest piece of metal on the A-15.
The selector knob
The trigger
The dust cover
Everything else is plastic. Most of it is well done and looks good enough to get you in trouble if you play in the wrong areas.
Trades:
Many websites have said that the A-15 has “Full Trademarks”. At first I thought that they meant COLT trades. So when I saw pictures of the panther trades I was not very excited. However the trades look fine, and no one that plays in my group would know one from the other anyway. They take up that otherwise blank spot on the receiver just fine and look quite nice when painted white. As I understand a year latter Panther trades are correct for this rifle and colt would be wrong.
The one thing that I do not like about the trades on the version two is that some one got the bright idea to change “.223” to “6MM”. The mold must have read .223 at one time and was re-cut to read “6mm” as there is a small bump in the trades where the mold was altered.

TARGET RANGE:
Ahhh Look the battery is done charging. So I plug the little nameless faceless battery in and go outside to shoot. First shot: WWEERRRIIIII PLUNK. Gee that took a long time. Second shot: WWWWEEEERRRRRIIII. This time it does not shoot at all. So I go onto troubleshooting. I try a 1400Mah 9.6v in it, I am met with a very rapid pop pop pop sound of an AEG. So that was the problem, the battery that Jungle Toy sent with it has to little power.
Back outside I see that it is shooting 100 feet with the hop up all the way on, and I still have to arc the shots a good deal. The power is only about 240-250fps. This problem plagued my A-15 for a year, before I got it worked out (more in the MODS/UPGRADE). The rate of fire is a good deal faster than my TM MP5. That would put this gun in the 900s at least.
MAGAZINES:
The A-15 can only take Cyber Gun magazines. TM magazines are too short at the feed tube. I have heard of people having a lot of trouble with their A-15 high caps not feeding. But this seems to be more common in the version I than the version II. The internals of the high cap are made out of metal and feed quite well. The only true problems I have had with my A-15 magazines are that they can get stuck in the MAG well. The cause of this seems to be the loading door opening while the magazine is in the gun. The best way to get them out is to rock the magazine forward while pushing up, then pull down.
INTERNALS:
I first want to say that these pictures have been taken after almost one year of use. I had not opened the gun until four months ago and at that time I only replaced a tappet plate that had broken. Right now the gun has two SRC parts in it, but they do not change the performance.
Here you can see the gears before I re-grease them.

In this picture you can see how clean the gear teeth still are after prolonged use, and that none have striped or chipped. I would say these gears especially the selector gear are as good if not better than TM. One thing people doing upgrades will want to see is the “two stop” spur gear. If you are planning to do heavy upgrades you will have to think about how much stress a two stop gear can take. (A side note is that TM has been using the “two stop” bevel gear again, and has had problems with moderate upgrades breaking them)

Here is another thing that ruins any chance of doing upgrades like a new body and the like. As you can see in the picture the motor is screwed onto the gearbox. So you have to keep the stock pistol grip. This may not sound like a big deal but the stock pistol grip screws through the body. So you will have to drill holes for it. And thanks to the way the outer barrel hooks on, it just kind of finishes off any chance it would work.

The hop up unit looks more like a MP5 hop up than any of the M4 type hop ups. I lined up my TM Mp5 hop up to check. They are almost exactly the same size and shape. But the problems with using an MP5 hop up include:
The holes don’t line up right, so you must use the whole unit not just the inner parts.
The MP5 hop up adjusts from the left side not the right, and uses a rod instead of a knob.
You must trim the hop up unit to fit inside the A-15.
There may be a hop up unit that will just drop in. But I have not found it in my hours of searching.
UPGRADES AND MOIFICTIONS:
I must start this with a word of caution. “I do not take responsibility for peoples inability to reassemble their AEG”.
There are many areas that one can modify the A-15 to fire better:
HOP UP:
The stock hop up unit is well made and works well enough to keep bbs from just falling to the ground. But you can improve upon the original design. To start with take the hop up unit apart. You will see that there is a small slot where the hop up spacer goes (it’s a small rubber nub, shown on picture as the bottom red dot.). You want to cut that slot so that it is wide enough for the hop up spacer to move freely through. You do this by using a small file and toward where the loading nozzle sits. There is small step up about ¼ of an inch toward the loading nozzle; this is what you want to file up to (Red rectangle)
The next step is to take a small piece of rubber tube (top red dot), about the size of the hop up spacer. Use this item to shim the hop up adjustment arm (Big blue piece). There is a half circle cut out that will hold the spacer in the proper place (to shim between the blue arm and the blue rectangle). I have found that this modification gives me the right amount of hop up at the mid setting to get straight shots out to 130 feet, arced to 160 feet.

PISTON HEAD SUPPORT:
The A-15 does not have a piston head support so any spring will give very low performance. This is a very easy modification that will bring the power up a lot.
What you need is a solid plastic object that will fit inside of the piston, or an object that is capped and will withstand the strain that the spring will put on it. You will want the spacer to be about ½- ¾ of an inch long. After you have installed your spacer check if your piston can move all the way to the back of the gearbox with the spring inside. If it gets stuck just before the end you must shave down the spacer. If your spacer is to long it will cause the piston to strip the last two teeth.
I have a Stock TM spring installed and I am getting a bit over 270fps if I am judging it right (coke can test).
One thing that the A-15 has going for it is its anti-reverse latch. The latch itself is just like any other anti-reverse latch, except that it has an extension that comes to a notch in the pistol grip. So if your gearbox jams all you must do is push the little lever in the back of the pistol grip. This is a very handy feature if the gun is going to be used as a loaner, as in that case it is going to be used only every so often, and only by newbies. And we all know what they do to guns.
Cheap AEG
Full Metal Gear Box
High Quality Steel Gears
Metal Bushings Stock
TM Compatible Parts
Powerful Motor
Good Wiring
Upgrades are more reliable thanks to the Anti-reverse latch lever that allows you to release a seized gearbox.
Gun can be modified to use TM type barrels and hop up buckings.
No barrel wobble to speak of.
Comes with a High cap.
CONS:
The first thing on the rather long list of almost perverted wrongs this gun has committed is the “flash hider”. Lets start by saying it hides nothing and flashes a lot. The flash hider is all bright orange plastic, it is about three and one half inches long. Most players who want to use this gun in games will want to size this orange tip down to the minimum legal 6mm. There is no way to pull or pry the flash hider off so you will have to repaint it right on the gun.
If you pick it up you will notice the weight… More like the lack of weight. The gun weighs in at a muscle straining 3 ¾ pounds fully loaded and with a battery. For the sake of comparison a SRC M4 is 6 ¾ pounds. The A-15 is just a little back heavy due to the metal stock tube.
To disassemble the A-15 to any extent you must take the whole thing apart. This includes the stock, rear sights, magazine release, pistol grip, and outer barrel.
Hop up does not work well in stock form. To the point that you wonder if its there at all
Hop up must be modified to work properly. Barrel cannot take TM type hop up bucking
No way to put a metal body on without buying many parts.
“Two stop” bevel gear makes high power upgrades less reliable.
The dust cover does not close.
CONCLUSION:
This is one of those guns that can be great if you tweak it. But in its stock form it is not a very good shooter.
If you know someone who is very good at tweaking airsoft guns then this is a good buy. Or if you are good at doing modding then it is also a good deal.
Jungle Toy is selling a “Starter Pack” for 149.99 so it is just a little more than a WELL M4 and just a little less than a SRC M4. But this gun is not the deal it once was, back when TM, CA, ICS owned the market cheap AEG that worked where hard to find.
The A-15 never had the demand that UTG and SRC guns have had. It could be that it came at the wrong time or that magazines from TM guns do not fit. One of the other things that hurt the A-15 is that many came glued together and were un-upgradeable
