JBU Internal Parts Review by XavierMace
Basic Information:
This review consists of JBU's M16 FTK, JBU's 6.03 M16 length Inner Barrel, and JBU's M150 spring. These products are available from BlazingToys for purchase. The Tune Up Kit comes in at $65, the inner barrel at $29, and the M150 spring at $15. The inner barrel is also available as a set with JBU's M16 outer barrel for $80. These products came straight from JBU and TeamSD for the purpose of the review.
Product Description/first Impressions:
All three products come in JBU's nice green and black packaging. All three parts are packaged to provide minimal movement in the package. The inner barrel comes in a custom fit hard tube to prevent damage. The finish on all the products are quite shiny and look very nice. The FTK comes with a chrome cylinder, a green aluminum piston, silver (metal) nozzle, and dark grey cylinder head, piston head, and spring. The JBU barrel is a shiny dark aluminum. The barrel is extremely light, you would almost think it was plastic upon picking it up.
Test Platform:
These parts were installed into a 2007 ICS M4 with Systema High Torque gears and a Turbo 3k motor. The gun will not turn over with a 9.6v 1100mah Mini battery. You will want at least a 9.6v battery with a 30a discharge rate for adequate performance. The hop up consists of a Systema Chamber, a Madbull Bucking (the hard blue one), and a Big Out H nub.
Barrel:
The JBU barrel is a 509mm 6.03mm Teflon Coated Aluminum barrel. The barrel is extremely light weight but still seems pretty sturdy. All of the cuts on the barrel are very smooth and clean. The barrel provides an immediately noticeable improvement in groupings from both 25' and 60'. Currently I am getting 3" groupings from 60' with a crosswind from the left.

I am out of actual targets so I used some card stock paper I had laying around.
I'm 99% sure that one low shot and the one miss (off the right) are both my fault. I really need an actual bench because the current method doesn't quite cut it.
FTK:
The JBU FTK includes a dark gray aluminum piston head and cylinder head, a green aluminum piston, a chrome cylinder, a black metal spring guide (with bearings), and a black M120 spring. The the parts are finished very nicely and seems to provide an excellent air seal. The piston features a removable teeth rack. Additional teeth racks (half or full tooth) are available from BlazingToys for $11. Both the spring guide and piston head have washers with ball bearings on them. The O-ring on the head is nice and thick and has minimal movement. The cylinder is a solid 0 hole cylinder since this is the M16 kit. The nozzle has smooth silver finish. Once again, this kit seems to have excellent air seal all around, however the nozzle was a little too long and had to be filed down to prevent feeding issues.
Spring:
There's really not much to go into here. It's a black irregular pitch steel spring. The spring is exceedingly stiff (as expected) which can make installation quite difficult.
Performance Characteristics:
Once all the parts were installed and the large battery hooked up, we went to work. Originally started the testing with a Magnum motor. With a 9.6v 3300mah Large battery, ROF was an impressive 15rps (estimated). The Systema Magnum's pinion stripped at just under 1,400 rounds. I have re-installed the original T3k motor for the remainder of the testing. There was a noticable decrease in ROF with the T3k and it's audibly struggling harder. I would highly recommend a Systema Magnum (or comparable) motor for this setup. A high discharge battery is a requirement. I would also recommend considering a LiPo or LiFe battery. Chrono results (done with a JBU M4 length inner barrel): 470-480fps with .20g BB's. I will re-chrono this week with the full M16 length barrel and an o-ring or two on the barrel. I'm fairly certain I have an air leak. I am also awaiting chrono results for the same kit installed in a CA M249 for reference. It would appear JBU is using about the same spring rating system as KM.

Systema Magnum, RIP. Damage looks worse in person.
Conclusion:
As has been the case in the past, one of the draws of JBU's products (for me) are their low price and compatibility with ICS guns. The FTK is $30 cheaper than it's closest comparison (Deep Fire). The barrel is $5 cheaper than the comparable Madbull. The spring is pretty average priced, coming in between the Madbull and Guarder springs. All the parts performed admirably in this weekends skirmish and the M120 spring gave the guns the little extra push they needed to cut through the bushes.
The FTK has now gone through about 6,000 rounds with the M150 spring without failure or other ill effects. Visual inspection of the kit shows minimal wear. It's a very sturdy product.
End Notes:
Many thanks once again to JBU and TeamSD. I continue to be impressed with JBU's products.
