This is an inital review of the Llama custom SR-47 DMR.

The Knight's Armament Company SR-47 is an extremely unique concept, in response to cave fighting needs, that blends very interesting concepts to form a truly one-of-a-kind weapon.

Although only 6 techincally exist in firearm form, and reportedly none of the planned SR-74 variants have been built, this is a gun which has received much acclaim for its concept, and is somewhat surprising in that it is unavailable to civilan shooters in nuetered form. The popularity of AK magazines and ammunition with the much treasured AR design made by Eugene Stoner.

The real technical specs in breif is that it's a gas operated assault rifle in caliber 7.62x39mm (AK). Box magazine fed (AK type), it shares much internal similarities to the SR-25 rifle, and uses the same controls found on the M4 Carbine used by US SOF. The gun is compatible with all AR stocks, from the oldest XM16 stocks to the latest NSWC 'Crane' stocks and VLTOR/Magpull models. THe SR-47 utilizes a flat top upper receiver, and is built around the KAC Medium length free-floated RailAccessorySystem. Sporting a free floated 14.5" Barrel, the SR-47 is the most accurate AK variant in existance. THe SR-47 is also issued with an M4QD style (but NOT compatible, the M4QD silencers of smaller bore will not fit the SR-47 flash hider) 7.62 flash hider also from KAC, which is very valuable considering the very enclosed spaces in cave fighting that the gun is intended for.

The fundamental concept behind the SR-47 is the utilization of 'battlefield pickup' magazines and ammunition. In cases with target-rich areas and the operators' inabilty to carry 50lbs of ammunition on his person, the necessity became apparent that using magazines recovered along thw way would be ideal. Initially funded under the SPR project, first a drop-in 7.62x39 kit was sought, but it quickly became apparent that the AK magazine and AR Magwell geometry were at odds -- and so in typical KAC fashion, Knight's turned around and created a whole new receiver capable of carrying out this function, and even adapted a spring-loaded magazine release so that the AK mags would gravity drop (sort of) and all the other controls would be identical to the M4 Carbine's.

The airsoft kit is made by Hurricane, and only comes in one (albeit a great) package. It includes a new reeiver, hopup (very necessary as the M16 magazines adn AK magazines feed from different parts, and the receiver is also longer in the SR-47), bolt and dust covers, FF RAS, 14.5" Barrel, and the best wishes that you install all of this correctly.

I used my kit in this fashion for a while, but after purchasing a Marui AK Spetznaz and enjoying the shorter 250rd hicap magazines, the crazy notion got into my head that I could make this very sturdy base into a precision rifle.

I replaced the Med. FF RAS and 20" Barrel with a G&P M4 Sniper kit (In lieu of a GBTech SR-25 kit). I then added a 509mm 6.03mm Tightbore barrel, and improved the wiring to help ROF with the existing M120 gearbox setup.

I then added a variety of scopes, including the Accushot 6x32mm Scope, G&P 30mm Aimpoint Replica on offset/cantilever mount, and finaly, a STAR 3.5-10x40mm M3 Scope on STAR QD rings.
