Overview:
The TSD Tactical M9X Compensated is a compensated version of their M9X gas blow back pistol line. The model sent to me to review comes with the pistol, compensator, an extended outer barrel, rail-mountable tactical flashlight, packet of BBs, magazine loading tool, and the Chinese to Engrish manual complete with parts breakdown.
The TSD M9X series are available to consumers with retail prices around $60-80.
Product Description/first Impressions:
The M9X series of pistols feature ABS frames and slides with metal outer barrels, and a metal support structure in the slide and frame. All M9X series pistols ship in the same packaging; a cardboard box with tasteful TSD artwork and a listing of all the pistols in the M9X line-up across the front flap of the box, a checkmark indicates which product is in the box.

Looking the gun over, I have to say it is a very clean looking replica. There are no seams along the top of the slide, and only a small seam along the bottom of the frame. The rubber wrap-around grip is disappointing as it is simply two rubberized plastic halves screwed onto the gun, with an ugly seam on the front of the grip. The plastic that makes the weapons frame and slide is very smooth with no flaws in its surface, the plastic is however very light, so I am a bit concerned about the long-term effects of using the recommended green gas to power it.
The pistol features a metal outer barrel with a threaded muzzle that will accept any 14mm CCW threaded attachment. Onto this threaded muzzle one installs the extended barrel. The finish on both the barrel and its extension are very smooth with only a slight gloss. The compensator itself is blaze orange to protect you from yourself, and is secured to the gun with a 3mm hex screw, which threads into the recoil rod.

Externals
The gun has few surface controls on it, they include, magazine release, trigger, slide release, hammer, and the safety. All the controls are easy to reach and use. The trigger has a mushy pull but a clean break.
The grip panels are a rubber coated plastic, and are intended to mimic Hogue grips.
The slide release works on the TSD replica just as it does on the real model, drop the magazine, push the release mechanism, and rotate the release lever, then pull the slide off.
Power/Magazines
TSD claims the M9X series can withstand the abuse of green gas, and so far that has proven true. The magazine serves as bb and gas reservoir just like all other green gas powered pistols.
The magazine is a double stack and holds 26 rounds, and has a gas fill time of around 10 seconds. Gas efficiency is average with about 1 1/2 magazines per fill.

Performance Characteristics:
This pistol was sent to me during winter and as such, gathering accurate performance data is rather difficult - gas guns don't like the cold. What follows below are my observations of the guns performance given the conditions I had to test it in.
The M9X pistol was tested with .23 gram TSD BBs using propane as the power source, ambient temperature was a chilly 12 degrees Fahrenheit. The testing procedure was to fire a couple shots, then run back into the warmth of the house to record the results before the magazine cooled down too much. Here are the results:
339
330
325
312
310
310
315
303
285 - went in to allow the magazine to warm
310
306
303
291
276 - ran out of pressure at this point, and the magazine vented its remaining gas payload.
Accuracy testing was also informal and was conducted by rapidly acquiring a series of man sized targets, at ranges out to 60 feet, and shooting at man sized targets from a supported position at 125 feet.
The 60 Foot targets were quick to acquire, and shots were close to center mass, with a 9/10 hit ratio. At the 125 foot mark, one can expect about a 50% hit rate.
The pistol performed well here with the only issue being an over zealous fixed hop-up, which was slightly over-hopping .23's and severely over-hopping .20's. Over-hop aside, the gun performs well, with acceptable accuracy.
Accessories/Modifications
The M9X series is equipped with a rail integrated into its frame. This rail allows for the use of tactical lights or lasers should you so desire. The pistol ships with its own crude light, which is simply a blue led with a silver cone around it to focus the light. I recommend finding something better if you actually plan to use a light.

The pistol also features a threaded outer barrel capable of accepting any 14mm CCW threaded accessory. Again, this version ships with goodies to mount here too, a compensator and extended outer barrel. The setup with the longer barrel looks a bit goofy in my opinion, but a mock surpressor looks great with a decent quality light mounted on the frame too.

Upgrades:
TSD claims the gun is fully Tokyo Marui compatible, as such it should be able to take nearly any upgrade on the market. I haven't tested this myself however, as I do not own the TM version, nor any upgrade parts.
Conclusion:
Overall, I feel the TSD M9X series of pistols would be a good choice for a starter GBB or as a side arm for some who is more concerned with performance than looks and bragging rights. The gun has good upgrade potential, and is an affordable starter gun.
End Notes:
Once again, a thank you goes out to TSD for sending ASR this pistol to review.
