This is my second review of a LPEG. I’ve decided to do it on one of the least discussed LPEGS the DE SIG552. There’s so much talk about the DE m4 which leaves the other DEs left out but they are just as good as the m4. Because everyone here seems to have the DE m4 (including me) I will be using that as a comparison rifle.

DE SIG SG552
External Look
Let me start off on the guns externals which are pretty nice for a 40 dollar lpeg. Besides from the different rail system you can tell a CYMA SG552 from a DE by the open holes in the foregrip. The cyma version just has indents while the DE has actual holes which give the foregrip a nice look. Another nice detail of this rifle is the magazine which has fake bullets and numbered lines to show fake ammo count which adds to the detail. The rail system is a plus and minus while they do look good when there on if you take them off your left with some very crappy looking screw holes.

Front Grip
Now for the negatives on the rifles look. First would be the selector switch which feels crappy when switched around and doesn’t look that nice either. The mp5 sights (forgot real name) are also quite bad since there not adjustable but they work just fine. Besides from those two things this gun is pretty nice.

Selector Switch
Durability
When you first pick up this gun its nothing big but for its size it has a decent weight not like my DE m4 but more like the cyma AK47. The most surprising thing to me about this rifle was the folding stock ITS STRONG! I thought it was going to be flimsy because of the folding ability but when it’s locked in place it doesn't even budge. The plastic itself is very strong also it doesn’t even seem like its hollow which was another surprise. The foregrip is two pieces; the top piece holds the battery compartment which is probably the least durable spot on this rifle. But even that part is strong enough to take some abuse. Overall this gun is just as durable as my DE m4 only part I can see breaking would be the threaded part of the barrel if you ran into something.

The battery is a triangle shape (i painted mine black yours will be grey)

Threaded Barrel
Performance
I’m 90% sure this gun uses the exact same gearbox as the DE m4. It produces the same sound and even makes the same burning smell as my m4. It has the same ROF except in my opinion the SIG552 is more accurate. When I fire the DE m4 you will usually get a few BBs going off in a different direction but with the SIG they fire in one straight line. I would say the SIG552 is as accurate as my SRC mp5 when I had it. The magazine holds 30 rounds which go out very fast so I would recommend buying a second one or learn to fire in semi. The front sights on this rifle are also adjustable for windage you can move the sight left and right by just touching it. Besides for the accuracy which is slightly better then the DE m4 these rifles both perform the same. This gun like the m4 hops .12s like crazy up to 60-70 feet they can even reach the distances my TM FAMAS will fire but they will sail most of the way. The folding stock is also a nice thing to have especially in close combat even with it on its easy to turn corners so when it’s off its even better. The one difference between the m4 and sg552 is the battery. The de m4 uses the regular connection while the sg552 uses a smaller black plug connection (the same as the cyma ak47).

Sights

Adjustable Hop up (I used the foil technique here yours won't have that metal look)
Other
Now for the little things that I can't add to the other sections. First off I would like to say this gun is pretty much a DE m4 in a new body so I'm guessing the DE g36 is also using the same gearbox so if you want to try and stand out from the crowd you might want to check these out. This rifle came with a mock silencer, front vertical grip (same type as m4) and a red dot sight (also same as m4). The red dot sight doesn’t work well on this rifle because it can't be adjusted low enough to line up your shot correctly. Overall this gun is just as good as the DE m4 so I would recommend this rifle to anyone who wants to get something different.

I recently purchased 2 CYMA Sig 552s to use to mod the DE Sig552s to make it into a realistic looking shooting wall hanger. Since I had the two versions already I figured I might as well do a review on both while I'm at it. This review will also include the frankengun which resulted in the mixing of both guns to get an uber Sig 552 LPEG.(uber meaning better than stock and simple upgrades to increase some performance as well as external fixes for accuracy and a new paintjob)
DE Sig 552:

First impressions out of the box are very good due to the accessories that came with this version. It came with an adjustable though cheap plastic red dot sight, plastic flashlight, plastic RIS grip, 700 Mah 7.2 pyramidal NiCd battery, 250 Mah 7.2 battery charger, Plastic suppressor, Cheap goggle (Better than the CYMA and more ergonomic), ~150-200 cheap 6mm BBs (THROW AWAY), tube BB loader, plastic cleaning/clearing rod, extra rail attachment screws, cheap sling, laser and mount, batteries (for flashlight,Laser, and Red dot), and 1 35 rd mag. You do get quite a bit of stuff for your money.
BODY DESCRIPTION:
WEIGHT:~5 lbs.
The weight of the DE Sig552 is quite hefty due to the usage of metal weights in the pistol grip(2), folding stock (4), and handguard (Metal Outer Barrel and Battery).
PLASTIC THICKNESS:
The plastic is ~1.5 to 2 mm thick throughout and though there is some creakiness, the feel is solid overall.
(closeup pic of plastic thickness with ruler)
MAIN BODY:

There are three RIS rails located on the upper reciever, lower handguard bottom and a small one on the right hand side of the handguard assembly. They are all removable and are attached securely to the body via nuts and screws throughout. The stock is removable and clicks very solidly into place without any flex. The magazine slides and locks into place through the magwell and DE could have certainly reinforced this area as there is quite a bit of flex and creak even after the mag has been seated. The battery housing is in the top handguard and the removable hanguard is held in place securely by spring loaded "clip" of plastic. Once in place the cover is very secure and only the functioning of the locking mechanism will allow the top handguard to be removed. The battery is held inside the top handguard and can be seen through the cooling holes of the handguard. Unfortunatley the battery tends to bounce around loosely inside the battery casing and is annoying.
SIGHTS:

The rear sight assembly is removable and it looks as if DE actually made it so that it is adjustable in elevation by tightening and loosening the drum sight screw. The rear drum unfortunately does not move and you are stuck with a large rear notch sight. The front sight is a hooded post and is adjustable for windage by manually moving it from side to side. There is no locking mechanism for the front sight post and friction is the only thing keeping your adjustements in place. The front sight assembly is removable and is attached to the external barrel. The barrel is threaded so that the flash hider or the suppressor can be interchanged. The flash hider screws into place snugly but the suppressor feels too delicate to be used for actual play. You'll most likely damage the front sight/barrel assembly if you accidentally bump into something with the suppressor on the gun.
BARREL:

6 inch main barrel with an additional 3 inch internal extension in the outer barrel that goes to the rear part of the external plastic barrel assembly. The usable barrel is a combined 9 inches from the front of the Hop-up plastic assembly. Hop-up is fully adjustable via a serrated plastic strip on the bolt/ejection port molding.
MAGAZINE:
The magazine is solid and heavy due to a large flat weight(1) inside. It is made of clear, smokey brown plastic which exposes the gold painted "cartridges" in the mag. Though nominally advertised as 43 rd mags, I've only been able to insert 35 BBs. These mags can be clipped together but weigh so much that I suggest taking the time out to remove the weights to preserve the structural integrity of your gun.
BATTERY and CHARGER:
The battery is a 7.2 Volt 6 cell NiCd with a 700 Mah capacity in the shape of a triangular "tube". The battery connector is the small type connector similar to the CMYA MP5J, and BOYI M4 RIS guns. The charger is the wall type charger with a 250 Mah output at 7.2 volts.
ACCESSORIES:
The RIS grip is the twist tightening type which locks into place very solidly and is much better than the LPEG foregrip with the sprung lever. Tightening the grip requires that you twist the bottom part so that the rectangular tip engages the valley between the RIS rail and holds it in place. The red dot sight is a 40mm plastic sight with the red dot adjustable for windage and elevation and using CR2032 Lithium battery. The flashlight is a white light type using AAA batteries and construction is of plastic as well. The Laser pointer uses three small lithium batteries with an adjustable point of aim via the front adjustment screw. It is constructed of brass and is quite heavy.
The DE Sig 552 is composed of the following major subassemblies:

INTERNAL BUILD:
Internally, the DE Sig 552 uses a BOYs type gearbox seen on the very right here
http://www.airsoftretreat.com/forums/index.php?topic=158.0
The spring is the thicker springs typical of the DE gearboxes and most importantly, the pinion gear from the motor is made of plastic. Stock performance of the gearbox is also at the above link. The Hop up is adjustable via the sliding serrated strip on the ejection port on the right side of the body. Unfortunately DE did not think to include the cocking lever attached to the bolt. The barrel assembly is composed of the inner aluminum barrel extending ~6 inches from the hop-up/chamber assembly and a larger diameter secondary ~4 inch outer barrel which extends to the front sight assembly.
PERFORMANCE:
The DE Sig 552 shoots very well and has a sharp distinct sound on semi auto. Full auto is also very precise sounding and for the lack of a better description, sounds like a sharp clack. Accuracy at 25 feet on semi is about a 2-4 inch group with .12s with the hop-up at the middle position. The BBs do drop 2-3 inches below the middle hop-up setting with minimal hop-up and 1-3 inches high with the hop-up at maximum at the same range. There is very little side to side variation (1-2 inch max) but the groupings could be described as a diagonal pattern from hop-up setting differences. The DE shoots more accurately than the CYMA since the usable barrel length is a full 3 inches more than the CYMA. At times a string of about 5-6 would group in a 1 inch circle while in the prone position. You will not get an ROF out of me so don't ask! You can get the FPS from the LPEG stats sticky.
DE SIG 552 Summation: (Scaled 1-10)
Build 9 : Very Solid , Few Creaks and Flex except for the mag well area. This is mechanically the Best SIG 552 LPEG
Weight 8 : Heavy for an LPEG ~4.5-5 lbs. Weight distribution evenly spaced out
Performance 9 : One of the best for BOYs Type gearboxed LPEGs and the more accurate Sig552
Aesthetics 4 : There has been some creative "looks" engineering by DE which makes this gun the least authentic looking Sig 552 LPEG. The muzzle is incorrect, there is no Charging handle, the selector settings are less realistic though functionally good, the front sight assembly is very plain and least accurate of the Sig 552 LPEGs, the stock folding lock is missing the stopper on the lower handguard, and of course Lots of ugly screw holes!!!The stock screw holes can be filled in and painted as it will not affect future takedown of the LPEG but the rest of the screwholes are placed incoveniently in hard to camouflage areas.
CYMA Sig 552:

First impressions out of the box are also very good due to the accessories that came with this version but mixed due to the ugly CMYA-ation of the top RIS rail. It came with a plastic RIS grip, 700 Mah 7.2 pyramidal NiCd battery, 250 Mah 7.2 battery charger, Cheap goggles (throw away),~150-200 cheap 6mm BBs (THROW AWAY), tube BB loader, plastic cleaning/clearing rod, extra rail attachment screws, cheap sling, and 1 35 rd mag. You get fewer extras than DE for your money.
BODY DESCRIPTION:
WEIGHT:~3-4 lbs.
The weight of the CYMA Sig552 makes it feel like a plastic gun. There are weights in the stock(2), pistol grip(2), Lower handguard(1)
PLASTIC THICKNESS:
The plastic is ~1 to 1.5 mm thick throughout and though there is some creakiness, the feel is solid overall.
(pic of plastic thickness with ruler)
MAIN BODY:

This is the most authentic looking LPEG Sig 552. There are fewer screw holes but the gun feels very solid though not as heavy as the DE. There are three RIS rails as well and two are removable. The top rail is similar to the G36 rail and is screwed into the rear sight assembly and the front upper reciever. The side mounted RIS rail screws into the lower handguard on the right hand side. The bottom Rise rail is molded on to the main body and cannot be removed since two screw/attachment points are used to hold the lower front part of the main assembly together. The Stock is attached to the main body by metal screws and nuts residing in the rear face of the reciever. The Stock is a bit loose when locked into place due to a plastic upper retention mechanism which has a bit of play in it so the stock has some side to side wobble. The battery housing is in the same place as the DE but the upper handguard cover only clicks into place and is retained by 5 flimsy plastic tabs. A hard knock here can dislodge the cover. The battery is seated firmly into the battery compartment by an open plastic rectangular guide. The cover however has the holes only rendered and you must cut the holes out to make it more realistic. The externals of the CYMA look more closely like the real SI 552 than the DE with a more accurate rendering of the Bolt, charging handle, and the way the upper and lower reciever mate.
SIGHTS:

The rear sight assembly is basically a blob of plastic molded on the main reciever using the large notch sight as the main sighting aperture. There are no adjustments to be made here but the good thing is that it looks more accurate than the DE. The front sight assembly is a solid hooded post which is not adjustable. The bad part about the CYMA sights is that you will not be able to adjust your fire by using them. Kentucky windage is your only choice for adjustment by watching the BB trajectory. The front sight assembly is the more accurate of the 2 Sig 552 LPEG versions though the gas tube regulator is simply a cylinder. The external barrel is plastic and does no come off with the front sight assembly as in the DE. The flash hider is similar to the real Sig 552 but is of flattish, even, thickness plastic and attaches to the external barrel through friction only. It is flimsier but more accurate than the DE. It must be removed to remove the front sight assembly.
BARREL:
6 inch internal barrel and 4 inch outer barrel with no insert so your usable barrel length is only 6 inches. Hop up is not adjustable due to a plastic strip blocking the hop up slider from moving.
MAGAZINE:
The magazine slides in and locks into place solidly in the mag well but it has more side to side play than the DE. The mag well on the other hand is more solid and has way less flex than the DE. The magazine is made of a clearer plastic than the DE and does not contain weights to make them feel heavier. It also has fake cartridges in the mag but the coloration is brighter since the mag outer plastic is clear. The magazines can also interlock and are actually better suited than the DE mags due to their decreased weight.
The RIS foregrip is the cheap spring loaded button type and though attaching solidly, does exhibit wobble.
The CYMA Sig 552 is composed of the following major subassemblies:
(CYMA exploded component pic here)
INTERNAL BUILD:
Internally, the CYMA Sig 552 uses a BOYs type gearbox seen on the very right here
http://www.airsoftretreat.com/forums/index.php?topic=158.0
This is the area the CYMA is the weakest. The gun I used for this review had absolutely minimal compression and could not even propel the bb to the target(25 Ft away) with the barrel level. It uses a BOYs type gearbox with a thinner spring than the DE and has a brass pinion gear coming from the motor. The hop-up chamber and barrel length are the same dimensions as the DE. The CYMA though has fixed hop up thanks to a plastic strip molded on the hop-up assembly that keeps the setting near the max hop-up setting. The aluminum barrel is held by a plastic holder near it's muzzle and an outer, aluminum, larger diameter barrel extends to the rear part of the external plastic barrel. Between the main and secondary barrel is some airspace to prevent the barrel suck problem but this gap could also cause problems in slowing down the BB if it hits the part of the outer barrel as it exits the inner barrel if the secondary barrel is misaligned. There is no overlap of the two inner metal barrels in the CYMA like in the DE.
(Gearbox, hop-up assembly internal pic here)
PERFORMANCE:
As I said before, there was no compression in the first gun which I took apart. I have not shot the other CYMA Sig 552 yet but it would be safe to assume that performance is going to be typically weak due to the thinner spring once the compression problem has been taken care of. Since the mod is using the CYMA barrel assembly, the groups are in the 3-4 inch groups with the most accurate string being only a 2 BB string in a 1 inch group in the prone position. the CYMA barrel assembly has a much wider spread than the DE. This CYMA gearbox is also more likely to strip the bevel gear after prolonged use due to the mismatched material of the bevel gear and the pinion.
CYMA SIG 552 Summation: (Scaled 1-10)
Build 8 : Very Solid, Few Creaks, wobbly mag is the only real bad part and the slight stock wobble is a mere annoyance.
Weight 6 : Feels like an LPEG and not incurable, weight distribution evenly spaced out
Performance 5 : Abysmal for my first gun but certainly the weakest of the BOYs Type gearboxed LPEGs
Aesthetics 8 : There has been some creative "looks" engineering by CYMA regarding the upper RIS rail but this gun is more aesthetically accurate than the DE. This is the Best and most accurate SIG 552 LPEG once you remove the Top RIS rail. The selector settings are as realistic(using the TM SIG 552 as a basis) and functionally excellent due to the pits CYMA placed for each setting. The selector clicks unerringly into all three selector settings. Even though there are lots of ugly screw holes, they are not as many as the DE and they are better placed than the DE if you want to fill them in.
Sig 552 Mod

Current Sig 552 models
Top to Bottom Tokyo Marui AEG, Cybergun Springer, DE , CYMA

LPEG Sig552 Hybrid mod unpainted
Now taking into consideration what strength each gun has, I decided to create a franken gun using the best of each gun as the foundation. This mod consisted of the CYMA main body with the internals from the DE. The internals are exactly the same dimensions so the grafting process was simply a one for one replacement. There was some cutting necessary to fit the DE upper RIS rail but the mod was pretty much a simple swap to get the best of both worlds. The hop-up mechanism is adjustable via the mag well and allows a cleaner look to the exterior body. More cosmetic plastic was glued to the reciever to add fixtures that were omitted from the CYMA body and the rear sights are being modified/carved to look more like the TM Sig552.
This model is also going to have the screw holes filled as well as being painted like the TM Sig 552. The internals have been modified by the use of a 4mm spacer inside the piston and making sure that there were no air leaks during the piston compression. I will also be grafting the DE outer metal barrel into the CYMA body as the DE barrle setup is more accurate. This will involve some internal tube structure carving/removal to accomodate the barrel overlap. I have yet to chronograph the upgrade results so I don't really know if the mod changes the firing chracteristic. If my CYMA MP5J "upgrade" is an indication of the power gain then this gun should be in the 160-170s. This is plenty fine for a shooting wall hanger for me and the other one will be the "playing" LPEG with the same changes but without the screw hole filling. As for the DE shell and CYMA Gearbox, they will become the basis for another project. Unfortunately the mags do not interchange due to the inner magwell shape and so I'm going to have to use the CYMA mag. I will take the mag apart and mist the interior to make it look more smokey colored and paint the cartridge bullets copper with green tips. I have added a 3mm laminated rectangular piece of plastic which keeps the latch more securely so now the Stock wobble has been almost gotten rid of.
