KWA Magazine Speed Loader Review by aznriptide859

Magazine speed loaders have been out for use for a long time, aiding airsofters in reloading their magazines, on and off the field, in a shorter amount of time. However all hand speedloaders in the past have had similar issues (which will be addressed in this review), and KWA's new M4-magazine-shaped speedloader arrives to change the field and set a new standard for speed loader quality/usage.

Introduction

I wanted a new speedloader (all my previous ones have broken, will be explained later), and I was on KWA's ProShop buying Glock parts and saw this on the front page. For $19.99, it's a bit more expensive than most speedloaders but I had heard wonderful reports from Booligan, so I wanted to give it a try.

My order was made on the ProShop on 8/28 - via Free Shipping (USPS Priority) I received it 8/31 - props to KWA's fast packaging/processing.

Product Description/First Impressions:

The first thing you are greeted with is a nicely packaged KWA Loader.

The instructions of using it are on the back (simple cardboard insert).

The loader itself.

KWA's engraved logo on the loader. Nice little touch.

One thing you'll immediately notice is the lack of a protruding feeding tip. Don't worry, KWA made this intentional - the flip up cover (seen on most M4-style loaders as a GBB loading adapter) is now a foldable tip cover.

You also might notice a little rattling when picking up the loader. Flip the loader around and you can find a small "storage compartment", which can store very small knick knacks. KWA puts the GBBR loader adapter in here.

The adapter installed.

KWA's lock button is also different from other loaders - it's located on the button. Depress to prevent the loading button from going down.

The lock engaged (from the other side).

Now the whole reason why you read this review - why buy this KWA loader over other speedloaders?

First off, previous speedloaders (small, medium, and M4 sized) all have three similar drawbacks:

1. The loading button is weak and flimsy - prone to breaking over time.
2. The spring retention pin is extremely weak, breaks under pressure (very common for M4-style speedloaders).
3. Without significant shaking, BB's will not automatically fall down with gravity - loader must be shaken while reloading (more common for smaller loaders).

KWA addresses ALL of these issues VERY nicely.

1. The loading button is now huge - half the size of the M4 magazine's width - and depresses with ease. No longer will you load quickly and have to worry about breaking the loading button.
2a. The spring retention is held INSIDE the button, pressed against the outer casing, not by some flimsy side pin. All previous M4-style speedloaders had this issue (I've used 3 in the past, all broke in the same way), so KWA's revision fixes this completely.
2b. Another note I love - the axis of the rod for pushing the BB's into the magazine is parallel to the button, and is heavily reinforced in the button. This strengthens the overall BB pushing mech.
3. KWA's loader has an interesting system inside, similar to a gold sifter. As you depress the loading button, the ridges on the loading rod axis rub against a small spring-loaded piece, which moves and allows the BB's to travel down to the loading position (also down a seesaw-type ramp). This mechanism ensures that BB's will continue down while loading, and that each depression of the loader will allow the most BB's to be loaded per button push.

You can see the entire internal mechanism in these next two pictures - they don't do the loader justice, this really is a NICE piece of equipment.

Usage

The loader claims to hold 460rnds total - it seems to hold up to that claim, but I have not done a very specific count yet. Loading with the larger button needs a bit getting used to, but after a while the loading is a lot more efficient/smoother than traditional loaders - I love it.

I have easily loaded a KSC G17, TM Mk23, and Beta-P AK magazines all without issue -I do not own a GBBR so I don't know if the adapter works well or not, though I suspect it should work just fine.

Conclusion:

I've been a fan of KWA for years (OK maybe not as adamant as their AEG fanboys), and this speedloader reinforces my love for the company. KWA have really improved the loader design and made it truly reliable, usable, and long lasting. I expect this loader to never break to me, and I know KWA's product will not let me down. For $20 this is truly the best M4-magazine style speedloader out on the market.

So why are you still here? GO BUY ONE!

Pros
Innovative design
Enlarged button ensures no button breakage
Better internal design to allow better BB feeding and durability
Storage compartment for small misc. stuff
Affordable at $20

Cons
-Seriously...none. Why haven't you bought one yet?

Ending Notes

Thanks to KWA ProShop for supplying the loader, Booligan for piquing my interest in buying it, and ASR for hosting this review!
